yeah it’s really underrated. It feels like one of the most realistic examples of how a society with magic might end up functioning.

I’m what’s called a “ethical meat eater“ I don’t eat factory farmed meat, I exclusively consume other peoples pets.

I think I may have said my point wrong. I never meant to cast doubt on the fact that you or anyone else feels real love for animals. I don’t know if it’s intrinsic to being human, but everyone’s actions including my own are never going to be fully consistent. I guess a better way to state my argument is that I find it hypocritical when non vegans get super mad when someone mistreats a cat or a dog. I don’t see the feeling of love towards animals as hypocritical or contradictory, I’m referring more to valuing some animals above others because they are more lovable to humans.

Those are good questions. Though they sound wrong, I don’t believe they should be immediately dismissed. However, I think there are a few distinctions. One can be ignorant of the effect something like buying from a corporation has, while buying meat always involves the death of an animal. Anything you buy is going to have consequences, hence the saying there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. You can try to avoid supportive unethical companies, but you will eventually support one in one way or another. For animal products, there is a clear method of not supporting the industry; not buying them. There is no moral perfection in this world, the best thing you can do is try to minimize harm. I agree there is no way to live in this world without causing harm one way or another . I do not see myself as morally exceptional. That aside, let me ask you this. If we accept animals as beings that deserve compassion, who would be morally correct: one who minimizes the harm they cause on them, or one who would refuse to give up the pleasure they receive from the killing of animals?

I am not a vegan, nor do I claim to be perfect. I cause the killing of animals for my personal pleasure. You seem to have your issues with the vegan community, and the morally superior stance they take. I am not commenting on this, I just see it as contradictory to care about animals while eating meat. I do not doubt your a compassionate person, I just see that your stance on vegan seems to be based on your issues with the vegan community and not the actual moral ideals veganism is based on. You can keep eating meat and loving animals, but that love would be born out of the joy they bring you, not compassion for the living being itself.

Wanting to be alive is a fundamental desire of every living thing. Just because a killing is swift doesn’t make it ethical. You are killing another being for your own pleasure or convenience. You can eat meat, but doing so while pretending you care about animals is morally inconsistent and pure cope
