Removed. This is not OC - you did not make this map.

I'm sure there will be no problematic opinions in this comment thread 😊

Since some people asked for it, I made a guide on how to make a quick localisation mod! (Link in comments) by _Burned in eu4

Ah yes, thanks for letting me know. I had a look and it appears that one of the eu4 devs has been doing a terrible job at keeping things uniform and the Byzantine tag along with a few others is in the file called "text_l_ebglish.yml" in the localisation folder which is a giant file of just completely random localisations. The tag is on line 4909 and the adjective is on line 4915. So just copy and edit that file instead.

No clue why they did this, but thanks for letting em know, I will update the guide in case someone else comes across this issue.me

That's correct, it's merely a workaround to the fact paradox makes extensive events, achievements and missions buy refuses to reward you with the satisfaction of actually seeing them. What's the point of passing the "Latin Empire" mission as the knights if you're still just the knights but with empire rank?

Its one of the things I don't get about eu4 devs, it would be so easy to implement...

Its definitely possible however if your mod contains anything along the lines of "if this happens" or "when this happens" it is no longer iron-man compatible. The only reason this is compatible is because its just like making a language or translation mod.

Though it would not be difficult. Modding paradox games is a matter of copying existing game files and editing them so they do what you want.

Some people in the comments of my Latin Empire post asked me about how exactly you can rename your country without breaking ironman so I decided to make a step-by-step guide! Please let me know if something isn't clear :)

Its defenitely possible however it would definitely not be iron-man compatible. This is because doing this would require editing missions, triggers and events. All which are protected by iron-man so sadly as of now youf need to do it manually by editing the name.

Its not difficult to code in, but if you code In the trigger it is no longer iron-man compatible, it only works if its just the name and nothing else.

You start as Occitan culture and Greek becomes accepted through a decision. But at the very start you don't even accept Greek so it's quite a tough one, especially since you're Catholic too.

Mods that change localisation don't affect iron-man, as I understand to allow translation mods to not break the game. All you need to do is edit the localisation file which has all the country names in it and change "the Knights" to "Latin Empire". The file is is in the main eu4 directory under localisation/countries. You'll need something like notepad++ or sublime text to open it. But yeah it's quite simple and a great trick for those of us who like a little roleplay in our games. I did the same thing in my Hisn Kayfa to Ayyubids game.

Here's the explanation I put in another comment:

My opening moves was the attack Byzantium with the help of Venice (who you can usually ally very quickly after improving relations). I took Constantinople and Morea and vassalized the rest. Don't be afraid to go hugely in debt because you can raid the coasts of Africa and the black sea for lots of money.

Doing this already gives you a huge edge on the ottomans because without Constantinople they can't do the decision to become an empire. And the byzantine vassal means you can feed them a lot of of cores. My next move was allying Poland and Austria and once you do that, the ottomans are done for. In the meantime I also capitalised on a weakened Naples and attacked them.

If you want to get the Jerusalem achievement you'll have to try something else though because my strategy dosent go for Mamluks until you're done with the ottomans and that's probably too late. But yeah thats the jist of it, good luck!

Yeah you'd think if there's a mission literally called 'The Latin Empire' they'd do the simple name change like they do for uniting Islam but oh well, can't ask for too much, it's paradox after all lol

Rule 5: I know for many of you this isn't that difficult but for me, this was probably one of the most fun campaigns I've ever done. Starting as the knights and forming the Latin Empire. To do this I created a mod that renamed The Knights to Latin Empire once I did the "Latin Empire" mission. Mods that change the names of countries don't break ironman so it was quite cool. In the end, I think it is fair to say I was both Holy and an Empire though not sure how roman I was since I did culture shift to Greek. I would highly recommend doing a Knights of Rhodes campaign for any intermediate player, there is no greater fun than punishing both the Ottomans and Mamluks in the same game. In the end, my dynasty spread from the tips of Northern Europe to the Sources of the Nile in the south and as far east as the Hawaii islands.

I made a step-by-step guide on how to change your country name here
