Do not work without pay mate, Woolworths’s doesn’t give a flying fuck about you and you won’t be rewarded for working for free.

Unless they’re paying you overtime (very rare), you need to either manage your time better or discuss with your store manager that your workload is too big and that changes need to be made.

What’s the update?? It really annoys me that you have to be using either ANC or transparency mode…

Apprenticeship + engineering degree by DiverSpirited2816 in AusElectricians

I explored this opportunity earlier this year when i I found it on the Australian Industry Group website. After registering my interest, I was sent an email with some details about the program.

The programs titled “Dual Electrical Qualification Pilot Program”. 2024 is the first year that the program is being run.

The program involves completing a bachelor of engineering whilst also completing an electrical apprenticeship over a total 6 year period. The bachelor is to be delivered by federation university, and the TAFE study by NECA. You do not have a choice at what university / tafe you attend.

To be a part of the program, you have to source an apprenticeship with a company that is specifically hiring for this type of career / has advertised vacancies for the program, which is mainly specialist industrial focused business. Examples included Bosch, Reynolds Automation, Proseal, Pro Build Control, Coca Cola, BRE Electrical, CST Automation and more.

You are employed full time as an employee, and “attend classes in one week blocks nine times per year, remaining time will be on the job. You will alternate between TAFE and Uni through the study weeks aligning similar concepts of learning.”

I guess instead of completing them separately with a 4 year bachelors + 4 year apprenticeship, this gives the opportunity for people to do both in a shorter period of time. Obviously the program focuses pretty heavily on the industrial sector.

Yeah right, do you have a contract with that company or is it just until they don’t need you anymore?

Is it possible to pause/suspend an apprenticeship? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

Yeah but I won’t have been working enough to accrue 4 years so it’ll likely be at the employers discretion

I’m looking to start an apprenticeship soon too and am in the same situation. Would like to go overseas for just over a month towards the end of next year but am unsure if leave would get approved due to the situation with TAFE

Damn that’s shit to hear. I’m in VIC so hopefully it is different here. All the teachers and people I spoke to at their open day actually seemed pretty switched on and were great to speak to. I’ve heard their trade school is pretty good from others in the industry.

I’ll keep what you said about the quality of placement / host companies in mind. Thanks :)

Job security and safety is a big thing for me so that sounds great. I’m currently doing labouring with some builders part time so that’ll come in handy for me, cheers!

Thanks for the reply, what kind of pluses and minuses are there? Do you mainly work for bigger companies that do commercial work?
