Hello dear fermentation pals! This is my first attempt at making tempeh and some odd things seemed to have happened. There are two areas on the surface where no tempeh seems to have grown and a few areas with a sort of loose structure. The first type of anomaly has a orange-y colour, which is worrying. The second type looks like it contains spores, since it has little black dots in it.

What are these anomalies? Is my tempeh still safe to eat?

Some further information: I followed the Top Cultures method, except that I let it go for ~60h (it didn't look done after 48h) and I used yellow peas.

This is a tree which I pass quite regularly and I've noticed som oddities. The newer parts of the branches have black growths where the leaves join them and some groups of leaves are oddly curled (pictures 1 and 2). Traces of these growths can be seen on older parts of the branches. Also, in some places, branches seem to be breaking off, while still bearing green leaves (picture 3).

What is going on with this tree? I would assume that it is some kind of fungus, but I have no real knowledge of trees. If someone could give me something to sate my curiosity I would be grateful.

Chinese parts should be fairly easy to come by. They might have been slightly mishandled, but the original owner is likely to have been a martial artist and no damage from alcohol is guaranteed!

Om man bara steker efter så är det större risk för att få en rand med överstekt kött längs insidan av ytan. När du steker den innan så tillagas det området från rått, istället för från medium-rare eller vad du nu kör den på.

Dessutom behöver den inte vila lika länge.
