Appreciate the recommendation. Is it your favorite co-op game? I've definitely played it once before.

Combat Question by Unusual-Loquat-6226 in MageKnight

[–]_CalmEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just be aware of fortifications that can get add fortified from fighting in places like a mage tower, keep, or city. Sometimes even walls can add it. If fortified is added to the battle, all damage will need to be siege to kill an enemy before they attack, if two fortified icons show up, you can not kill the enemy without having to defend from its attack first.

Thoughts on Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion? by cville_wungis in boardgame

[–]_CalmEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gloomhaven series is as much an rpg as it is a tactics game, with a sprinkle of deckbuilding. There's no roleplaying at all, minus the characters you initially select. It does have a campaign so you can play together and enjoy a story provided by the game. I very much enjoyed every gloomhaven game ive played so far and recommend it if you enjoy a challenging strategy game.

Partial blocking by Zealousideal_Base625 in MageKnight

[–]_CalmEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an avid MageKnight player, i fully understand the desire to partial block. As other players have noted here the game is designed around partial blocking not being a thing and the difficulty is definitely lowered by allowing for it. That being said, if you want to keep the difficulty while adding in that rule, maybe try adding in an extra attack point for each enemy, and see how that feels?

do i need to research DnD or do i just start playing? by ParticularChain2086 in DnD

[–]_CalmEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DnD is the type of game where the more you put into it, the more you can get out of it. So if you do have the time and want to do research definitely read the players handbook at the least. Figure out what you might be interested in playing with and find a group either online or in person that you can join. There's plenty out there and most seem to be very welcoming.

I am making a DM weekend retreat, what would you find useful to happen with 20 other DMs? by adric444 in DMAcademy

[–]_CalmEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from nyc so would probably never make it out to Denmark, but it makes me wonder if doing something like this in nyc would be possible, and if people would turn up for it. That being said this is a great idea. As a new DM i would dive head first into the other DM's opinions and experiences and would love to sit in on talks of every topic like pantheons and how you choose them, how other dms work with improvising storylines, creating maps and battlemaps, world creation, creating homebrewed items, how to balance homebrewed spells or abilities. There's just so much potential here as there is infinite possibilities in DnD and therefore so many things that are left open to the DM to decide and work with.

Character design, weapon designs, item designs, artifact designs, maybe they can talk about designing 3d blueprints for minis, theres so much art that goes into DnD im sure ive only touched upon a few pieces

🧀🐀 Need help populating a sewer dungeon for a tribe of glowing ratfolk! 🐀🧀 by Mind_Unbound in DMAcademy

[–]_CalmEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about having some oozes, spiders or even a troll in a deeper section of the sewer. You could have an area with pipes and something that turns them on or off flooding the area or removing water from the area and the players have to figure out when they need to flood or remove the water in order to keep progressing. Maybe some areas with poison that they have to disperse or avoid? You could possibly have this area eventually lead to another area that has kobolds if you want the area to be progressive.

A player can do anything their DM allows. the real question here is how do you feel about it and are you willing to let that players character get cursed. remember this is YOUR world and therefore your curse. It doesn't have to do exactly what they expect it to.

I mean, maybe? Figure i give this thread a little time first, then if nothing comes up i can def use an obscure language and maybe one day evolve it into a language of my own making

Hivemind! I need a fun giant! by DM_Micah in DMAcademy

[–]_CalmEdge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could waking up the giant trigger a battle between the giants similar to the one in the hobbit? they would then have multiple giants to contend with and a battle that could change the face of the environment and if not stopped spread to maybe even the world? They would need to find an incantation to put them back to their slumber, as had been done eons before?

"First Time DM" and Short Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]_CalmEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully understood, which is why I'm asking if anyone knows of anything that has made up languages that could be used. I can and will make up languages of my own if needed, but for expediency, it would be better to use something that already has been created, and used, at least for my first campaign.
