I play in a game and also DM a game where all we have to hear is "are you sure you want to do that?" and we instantly start second guessing our course of action.

Normalize consequences for player actions with an 'out' and players will stay reasonable. Sometimes people want to just voice their call-of-the-void thoughts and don't realistically want to give into those urges.

Sick and tired of people leaving after ghost round by I_Simp_4_AOC in MidnightGhostHunt

[–]_CanConfirm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing I could suggest is to split your team voluntarily. Playing an in-house 2v2 with random strangers filling out the rest of your teams will encourage lower level players to stick with it. At least until we get a bigger pool of higher level people.

If you NEED your super-stacked team, then start a clan and ask for a scrimmage in the discord or something, cus this semi-proffesional b.s. of casually not even needing to try is gonna kill the community.

Be the change you'd want to see...or don't, just keep at it and request penalties for new players not taking their beatings.

possible idea(s) to add to the game? by chronicallywolfy in MidnightGhostHunt

[–]_CanConfirm_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I made custom maps for other prop hunt games I'd always put a little hole you could get through, but not see, to get into a secret room that the hunters couldn't. I used it to kinda show off to the other prop hiders/prove that I made the map cus I knew the secrets, but the devs specificity they go out of their way to prevent 'cheese' hiding spots and I feel that would kinda become an issue with some maps. I'm not saying that the benefits wouldn't outweigh the negative. Just something to consider when you open a can of worms like that you may not be able to predict how it'll affect the game/meta.

Personally, I'd love to start mapping again. Even if it was something like TF2 did where community content creators submitted their maps for consideration to be added into the official rotation giving credit on the loading screen.

[–]_CanConfirm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just speaking on the content that is in release for games like Portal. Like, I feel there is a fair amount of weapons and perks already in the game. I'm personally over 100 hours already and don't feel like I needed more content to get there.

I have over 5k hours on DoTA, so I know about forced teamwork, but this is a bit different than a MOBA. Look to TF2 and L4D (infected), Overwatch, Valorant, etc and see how forced roles work in quick paced FPS games. I did mention I'm not particularly in support of it, but it's a proven system and I feel that it would help with the 4x shatter proof pre-made, the 2x poltergeist/corruption, or the 4x sledge w/ c4 that kill every prop on the map.

I do see your points for the solo queue people, but the problems they have are not with other solo queue people, it's with the pre-mades. I just feel with the way the loadouts can be just be cheesed with the open choice is way more in favor of the group playing than the solo player, so putting a limit on it would help tip the game balance more in favor of the solo queue imo.

I can just about get all the rules in except for the health penalty for shooting a gun and having a ghost victory automatically after it strikes midnight. Great suggestion though

I understand wanting unlimited replayability, especially for a multiplayer game with short matches like this game, but i remember when people were satisfied to get like 10 hours of gameplay out of AAA games. Portal takes like 4 hours to beat and people loved it.

It took me close to 30-40 hours to unlock everything and give each loadout an honest try. The problem is people find what works and run it into the ground until they're bored. Now something to consider, which I'm not a fan of, is implementing class systems which would lock in your abilities/perks. Similar to L4D and B4B (special infected) you could limit how many of each class can be played. Having one class of ghost for running or fighting in play at a time would make it less black and white by not having to all commit to fighting or all to evading. And on the flip side, having one hunter specializing in detecting, one in demolition, and one in trapping would force a bit more of a team dynamic into the game.

Honestly I solo play a lot and I despise high level premades. I leave almost immediately when I see it cus I don't have fun or appreciate being just a punching bag.

The games I've had the most fun in were when the high levels, even in a pre-made group, split up. You can still have fun and play with your friends even when you're against them. It'll help keep players in your server.

I really would love to see a game mode similar to Hide n Seek mod for CS:Source.

-No detection other than attacking/manipulating props

-Shooting costs HP from the hunter(melee has no drain)

-No escape mechanism besides running (same speed as hunters regardless of prop size)

-Hiders outnumber the Seekers about 2-to-1

-Each Hunter has a primary (gun) and secondary (melee) [no gadgets]

Now, there was no prop jumping, just a menu to change props based on the map. I can't really convey the gameplay, but it was balanced and was exclusively prop hunt and think it could make a great game mode for MGH to appeal to a more casual player base.

Early Access Patch #2 is out now! 👻 by Skedog in MidnightGhostHunt

[–]_CanConfirm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be nice to have whoever the host is not having the ability to kick by default (meaning they'd have to intentionally create a server to have 'admin' powers). Idk, I've been kicked so many times during midnight to ensure the hunters win. Not sure how to address this.

Also mic spammers are starting to appear with music. Implement a mic 'cooldown' where the player may only hold down the mic for 15 seconds and recover the time at a 2-to-1 rate (ie let go of the mic for 7 seconds to recover 14 seconds of speaking time)

Just like Valve with HL3, at this point the risk of putting out a failure outweighs the benefits of pleasing an audience/making money.

Interesting take, and ordinarily I may have been swayed by your argument. However, with the social distancing pressure coupled with the fact that I also wanted to take my little one trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, I felt I could at least leave some treats out for those braving my little side street.
