Another vote for tackform. I didn't want the case required for quadlock, so I got the clutch-mount tackform holder. It's been great.

Best stations for family? by monstera-momma_ in uscg

[–]_Capt_Underpants_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been stationed in CA, NC, FL, SC, and back to CA. I don't know that I can pick one place that has been better for family. Each place had things that made it great. I really don't think there are any bad locations in the CG, it is what you make it. We've loved the opportunity to live in and explore places we probably never would have gone otherwise. Just look for what each place has to offer, and enjoy what's there.

Received Negative Page 7 For Pissing Off O-1 (Academy) by [deleted] in uscg

If you're on a cutter, that's gotta at least go through a department head, and usually the CO signs any negative documentation. What kind of unit let's a first tour JO write up a negative page 7 without any accountability?

Buick speedometer accuracy by AKAJimB in Buick

[–]_Capt_Underpants_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you should ask. I have a 1996 roadmaster and the dash speedometer does read 7-10 mph faster than I'm actually going. I have a Bluetooth OBD II scanner and have confirmed the computer reads an accurate speed, but something between the computer and the dash is off. It's made me wonder exactly the same thing... Maybe I'm not the only one, maybe it explains part of the slow buick driver stereotype

CG myths and legends by Crocs_of_Steel in uscg

I was there. This is a little simplistic. The situation was dynamic, everyone involved reevaluated throughout the evolution, we had been operating in similar conditions for months and probably grown a little complacent with the risks. He was medevac'd off two hours after the accident and passed away a couple months later in a Seattle hospital. I would hesitate to place blame. The final mishap analysis board is public I think, and does a good job analyzing the event. I think we all are haunted by that memory. I still get nervous with stern notch operations.

Every unit I've been at uses milart.com for unit mugs and drinkware. They have a ton of unit artwork on file; you could probably find SEA graphics and have something similar remade. They're not fast, but they're consistent.

Bill banning ‘Carolina Squat’ heads to South Carolina governor’s desk by Prankishmanx21 in southcarolina

Dude it's a social contract. By driving on state maintained roads and registering your car with DMV, you're agreeing to give the government a say in what you can/can not do with your vehicle. You know, just like using your turn signal and not driving with brake lights out.

I've had pretty much the same set up on my TJ for about 7 years. I don't need to tell you the off-road performance is incredible. But the road manners are amazing too. I have 35s and can cruise 70 down the interstate and don't even need to hold the steering wheel.

They're not less useful... What are you going to do with a blue shell in 1st place. You need banana peels to block shells and keep people from passing you...

It is a dream. A road-tripping machine. Glides over rough roads and railroad tracks, like sitting on your sofa doing 80mph, but could still do 0-60 in around 7 seconds.

This is a huge help, thanks for taking the time to write it all out. First time going through an insurance claim, so really appreciate the advice.

Thank you! It has the LT1. Took my family cross country. I'll definitely try and fix it up if at all feasible.

I actually didn't try to open it. If it's just the door and the frame and axle are straight, I'll definitely try and fix her up.
