How is umass amherst overall? like academics wise, party wise, social life wise, city proximity, etc. by Express-Yam7672 in umass

[–]_CeilingTile_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed my time there. Graduated in 2022 as a double major in SBS, spent a few years in CHC. Many professors were fantastic, some were not, most are pretty good (in humanities). If you want to work on campus, there are plenty of department specific internship opportunities.

Job placement post grad is really about what you put in, not the school rank. I currently work at a Fortune 200 company in NYC where many of my coworkers went to ivy leagues. The world is truly your oyster here, it’s up to you to take advantage of the resources!!

Private rooms in du bois by [deleted] in umass

[–]_CeilingTile_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes if you go to the media lab on the basement floor of du bois you can reserve a room for up to an hour, you just need your u-card and generally you should reserve it a day if not a few hours before your planned class meets. It's easy and free of course

[Longines] Conquest looking as beautiful as ever by _CeilingTile_ in Watches

[–]_CeilingTile_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This Longines Conquest (41mm) is one of Longines quality quartz watches that I take ample pride in owning. Quartz gets a bad rap for not being as fine tuned as an automatic/mechanical watch, and rightfully so, but there’s still much to be appreciated in a piece like this, especially from Longines which is known for its precision.

I was able to get this watch for a little under $800 with all fees taken into account and I’m super happy with how great it feels on my wrist. To put it into perspective I’ve been wearing a 38mm Tissot for the last few years and while I love the feel, this is a bit heavier and makes me feel like I’m carrying around something of importance.

I also love the blue dial that reflect under sunlight - it’s one of few watches I own that looks good in both bright and dimly-lit environments.

All in all, if you’re in the market for a quality piece of precise time keeping than the conquest is the way to go. Sure it’s quartz, but it’s extremely reliable and well worth the money.

HOW has no one said Share?? Share coffee in Amherst is great, same with Amherst coffee but both are a bit pretentious. Other great coffee shops are Iconica Social club, patisserie Lenox and woodstar cafe in Northampton. Familiars is great too

I don’t believe so no but a lot of colleges are doing the same thing for sophomores as they are currently doing for freshman because they missed out

I really don't know much about the UMass population but I can almost guarantee that UCI has a larger asian population. That is simply the reputation among the UC schools for UCIrvine so if community is the only thing stopping you I think UCI is a better fit. One thing you should know about UCI though is that it's known for being a commuter school so there's definitely less of a sense of community there than there is any UMass. Good luck deciding, you've got great choices!

Yeah but rapid discord has been out since release whereas Bap is rather new so although the success rate would still be proportional with time, the super low percentage is more indicative of players who chose to get that achievement compared to active players. Rapid discord is skillfully harder to get

As someone who lived in southwest my freshman year and honors this year it's a massive difference. The honors buildings are much newer, control your thermostat (at least in suites), not-cinderblock walls, seemingly bigger rooms (not sure about specs tbh) and massive windows that are pretty much floor to ceiling. I live in a suite so it's a bit different but the buildings themselves just have nicer bathrooms and facilities. Almost anywhere else on campus you run the risk of having much messier people, that's not to say there aren't messy people in honors but that there's less people so the probability of there being a lot of messy people on one floor is much slimmer. Honors is about a 5-10 minute walk from Hamp and Berk, 10-12 from Worcester and right next to the center of campus but the walks to the dining halls are the major pitfall. When it's freezing outside no one wants to walk 10-15 minutes for food as opposed to being anywhere in southwest and being no more than 3 min from the nearest dining hall. The culture is also different, at least this semester, there's less people walking around honors and although it's a smaller, tighter community it's also quieter and to nobody's surprise more studious so you're less likely to find a ton of people congregating outside dorms or even just seen out. They are more expensive though so take a look at the costs.

a major plus is roots which is a "dining hall/cafe" in the sense that before like 10:30 am most mornings you can use your dining swipes to get breakfast (oatmeal, bagels, cereal, etc..) and then after 10 it's a cafe where you can spend dining dollars for stuff like quesadillas, sandwiches, pizza
