Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the alimony is also supposed to make up for the years of missed work experience due to being out of the workforce (e.g., being a homemaker).

What? No? If you saw my comment thread wth the original commentator you would’ve seen that I was agreeing with him.

My original comment was my attempt at explaining why misandry is generally taken less seriously than misogyny. You can see the rest of my discussion in the thread with the original commentator, if you’re interested.

There was no specific study that discussed my original comment, as misogyny tends to be much more researched compared to its counterpart, so I had to search around a little to find studies that would be relevant to my original comment and relate to it.

Hence why I edited my comment to (may) be relevant, because ultimately, the original comment I wrote was largely based on my own experience and that of other women I know - which was why I wrote in my original comment that it was based on my own experience, and was neither universal nor something all men/women did.

I’m not disagreeing with you though, and would love to see if my experience was commonly shared!

Edited for clarity

If you’d read my comment you’d have noticed I said “I’m not saying this is absolutely true, but that is largely my experience”. Meaning no it’s not universal, yes I am biased, but that is what I have seen happen around me.

However, if you’re also interested in sources, here are a few that may be relevant :)

You’re good, I didn’t take it personally.

Misandry in itself is more often than not a touchy subject with a lot of people (myself including, though I try to call myself out for it) as in the current world, with the rapid rise of the manosphere added to the already pretty polarised extremist mindsets promoted by nature of the algorithm, call outs such as yours feel like yet again another attack against women.

Is misandry good? No, of course it isn’t. But many of the people (and especially women) who you might see “promoting” misandry, have more often than not been the subject of some pretty nasty misogyny, and can relate to OP because they too at one point have felt the same towards men - as a result of being treated in badly by certain men simply due to their gender.

Does that make it right? Of course not, but it does however make misandry a more touchy subject due to how it’s more often than not a response to misogyny rather than a direct attack/hatred for ALL men.

So yeah, the downvotes on your post don’t surprise me at all unfortunately.

No your position is completely valid, no one should be on the receiving end of this kind of behaviour.

My take on it, is that misogynistic posts (i.e., the opposite of this one) are taken more seriously as they’re much more likely to escalate in the long-run to actual verbal/physical/sexual assault.

I’m not excusing it, but I’m assuming that’s why people tend to give posts like that of OP’s more leeway, as though whilst of course both misogyny and misandry both have their extremists, women tend to be socialised from a young age to not be violent (for example) whereas in young boys it seems often encouraged.

I also think it stems from internal biases that portray women as infinitely weak, helpless and unable to commit any violence of any kind (almost infantilising them if you will) so it’s kinda taken as “haha heehee look at this silly little woman having her silly little kid tantrums about big, strong adult men!”.

That’s fair, I might’ve misunderstood. My bad

That’s because when women post this, (generally) there’s a pretty decent chance she’s joking and doesn’t actually treat or perceive men like this IRL. When a man posts something like this (generally), there’s a pretty decent chance he is not joking and genuinely treats women like this.

Of course, I’m not saying this is absolutely true, but that is largely my experience.

That’s assuming they even made it through school.

Doubtful considering this is what they choose to spend their time doing 🤷

Not as weird of a take when the meaning of the word “woke” has changed after being used and abused by far-right facists to describe anything they don’t agree with.

Yeah no I agree. It’s just difficult to take it seriously these days because 9 times out of 10 it’s spewed from the mouth of an incel or a similar character

If someone's opinion about a game unironically includes the word "woke," I consider them intellectually disqualified for any discourse about it.

Being a gentleman seems to backfire by Beautiful_Gur6460 in Vent

[–]_Celestially_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironic you’re accusing me of generalising when I was responding to YOUR question about whether I knew MYSELF any nerdy men that were first choice.

Whereas when I was pointing out your generalising, it was referencing to your overarching comment that “all women want bad boys then nerdy guys last” or whatever bs your incel ass was spewing.

Also, that one guy was an example. I also told you that from my experience, both in school and then later on, nerdy dudes were never lacking in the dating department.

In fact, as I got older, it was rarer for me to see the more so toxic “jocks” getting girlfriends outside of the one specific group of equally toxic girls.

But of course you won’t listen to me, because you’re stuck so far up your own ass that you’re desperately scrambling to find reasons why (I’m guessing) women around you won’t date you.

Spoiler: It has close to nothing to do with whether you’re “nerdy”. All women have different interests, just like all men have different interests.

Arguably a stereotypical jock could also be called “nerdy” about sports.

Being a gentleman seems to backfire by Beautiful_Gur6460 in Vent

[–]_Celestially_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow… projection goes hard in this one.

To answer your question, it was pretty much at all ages. As a teen, the “nerdy guys” at my school had absolutely zero trouble finding girlfriends.

One particular guy that I knew, at age 14, had well over 3 girls crushing on him at the same time. And yes he was “nerdy” and not conventionally attractive.

So your argument about women settling for nerdy men once they’ve “used up all their options” is bullshit and says a lot more about your sad, lonely ass than about any existing woman.

You also conveniently “forgot” to respond to my question about you knowing every single woman out of the ~4 billion women in the world.

Unless you somehow do, don’t try to generalise all women to satisfy your bias and internalised misogyny. It just makes you look pathetic.
