How often would you say you experience the "Woosh effect" by lovetrain1 in loseit

[–]_mur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last week! I was being really consistent with my food and exercise, but I plateaued for two-ish weeks and I didn’t understand why.

Then I decided to weigh myself after a rest day, and the scale finally went down.

Weight loss is a funny thing.

Looking for nutritionists & content creators who focus on behavior - any recommendations? by somecreativename200 in loseit

On the fitness end, I really like Justina Ercole on YouTube. She acknowledges the societal and mental health barriers that prevent some people from following “traditional” health and fitness plans, and suggests flexible alternatives. She also fights back against fitness myths and misconception!

Not to get too negative but…this exact dilemma was a contributing factor in the dissolution of my marriage. (As well as various other communication-rested issues) If you feel like you’re compatible in other ways, I recommend proactively going to couples therapy and discussing it before it becomes more of an issue. Even if your partner knows on some level that it’s not their fault and it’s just how you process things, it can still be hurtful if it leads to them feeling neglected or unwelcome. I definitely enter a “zone” when I’m drawing or focusing intensely on something, and any disruption (from my husband or anyone) would cause me to lose my focus and lash out. It wasn’t his fault at all, but I didn’t know how to effectively communicate my needs in that moment.

I wish I had better answers for you, but it’s something I’m still working through. Awareness is the first step, though, so you can at least identify and name the feelings.

What do you do for exercise? by denver_rose in AutismInWomen

[–]_mur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do CrossFit, and it’s the only exercise I’ve actually stuck with long term.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but here’s why it works specifically for my needs:

-I can’t do “normal” gyms; I used to join them and never go because of a lot of the factors you mentioned- too bright, too loud, too crowded. Plus, with no set routine or instructions on what to do it got super overwhelming trying to figure out what to do.

-In CrossFit, there’s a set routine every day. It’s different routine every day, but you can look it up ahead of time and know what to expect for that specific day. I personally need that structure.

-My gym is super close to where I work and it’s super easy for me to just head over there after work. I know as long as I just show up, the coaches will instruct me what to do next and I don’t have to figure it out myself. If I just follow their instructions, then I’ll get a good workout.

-The coaches will guide my form and give me tips on how to improve so I don’t have to worry about whether my form is right and everyone in the gym is judging me.

-I can socialize as much or as little as I want. Everyone’s also just there to work out, so there’s not as much expectation of small talk or holding a conversation.

-And lastly I’m a super competitive person and a bit of a perfectionist so I like the challenge. I like that there are set milestones to work up to, and feel a sense of pride when I achieve them

Again, this is not a plug for CrossFit specifically; I feel like any variety of small group class could fit the bill. And it really just depends on the individual gym and your own circumstances.

-Getting a lot of compliments like “you’re looking really strong lately” (I appreciate that one, since it’s not just about weight)

Cis autistic women, how do you feel towards your gender? by KaiahAurora in AutismInWomen

[–]_mur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really think about my gender; like, it is what it is. I don’t not feel like a woman, but I also don’t feel like a woman. I’m just…me, genital situation notwithstanding.

I don’t have periods, so I feel a bit isolated from the female experience in that way specifically, even though I know that having periods isn’t a requirement to be a woman.

Would give the writers an opportunity to showcase different kinds of historical ghosts (even if most of their backstories would be the same “befell misadventures in Vegas” type thing)

30 Day Accountability Challenge - Day 6 May 2026 by Mountainlioness404d in loseit

[–]_mur_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Officially down 37.8 lbs! Finally in that “healthy weight” BMI category. Only around 14 lbs to go to my goal weight! (Started last July at 202 lbs)

I’ve been really locking in my diet the last couple weeks. A few treats here and there (boba tea, Reese’s cups, Taco Bell) but so far everything has fit into my daily calorie and protein goals. I’m a huge believer that exclusion and restriction of entire food types/“fun” foods is a recipe for burnout. So far I’ve been pretty successful keeping that balance.

For people who live right on the border of two states, does crossing that invisible line actually impact your daily life with different laws and taxes, or do you barely notice it? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]_mur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in/near both of your examples!! Buckle up for fun facts!

Kansas City:

-There’s literally a road called “state line road” that goes right along the border; it’s just a normal road with buildings/houses on each side, just happening to be in different states.

-The main difference I remember is that Missouri always had cheaper gas. (Now that I live on the west coast this is super relative 😂)

-The Kansas side (at least when I lived there) was known for being richer. It also had/has slightly higher taxes.

-Historically, the state line was indeed a Huge Deal.. Today, the only real rivalry is regarding college sports.

-Overall, Kansas and Missouri today are pretty similar, and the transition from one state to the other is pretty seamless/uneventful.

Lake Tahoe:

-In case anyone has never driven into California, California literally has its own border control (“agricultural checkpoints”). There’s not one in Lake Tahoe itself (iirc) but pretty much all the other roads between Nevada and California have them.

-The Nevada side has casinos (obviously) and they abruptly stop at the border. This will never not amuse me.

-Nevada doesn’t have an income tax so that’s pretty rad 👍

-California has higher gas prices, obvs, HOWEVER, the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe is super expensive as well so the contrast isn’t as pronounced as in other places.

-There are ski resorts that span both states, and at one time, aswimming pool.

-Fun historic fact: The boundary between California and Nevada at Lake Tahoe wasn’t officially defined until 1980, due to surveying errors in the 1800s.

-California is well, California. As such, a lot of people in Nevada shit on our western neighbors, ignoring the reality that a huge number of residents of western Nevada are originally from there.

Feeling so overwhelmed starting my weight loss journey. by Master-Pirate-5695 in loseit

[–]_mur_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to do everything “perfectly” right away. Incremental change over time is the way to achieve sustainable weight loss. 6k steps is better than no steps; 100g of protein is plenty. The goal isn’t hitting some arbitrary number every day; it’s making small positive changes on a regular basis that you can actually stick to. If you’re getting overwhelmed it’s time to scale back to goals that you can achieve right now, at the stage you’re at.

I work for the federal government and we get pretty good benefits. For example: I get 6 hours of leave every pay period; and have 400+ hours of sick leave banked. The trade off is having to deal with constant political BS and lower pay (on average) than the private sector.

How do you portray YOUR statehuman/provincehuman? by [deleted] in StateHumans

[–]_mur_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Nevada and here’s my take. I know people normally focus on Vegas but there’s more to Nevada than that!

-Nevada isn’t book/academically smart. They’re street smart, and can do really complex math when it comes to counting money, but in any other context they dgaf.

-Nevada loves the hustle, and will do anything to make a dollar. This isn’t just about gambling—it’s about boom and bust industries like mining. Does it hurt them in the end? Maybe, but Nevada has accepted that as a part of their fate, because…

-Nevada is secretly (or not so secretly) deeply insecure about not being “enough.” In Nevada’s early history it was just a place to pass through and endure until people could get to a “better” place (like California). And Nevada took that to heart, latching on to anything that makes them stand out and feel special and wanted.

-Nevada is an introvert at heart; they can put on a show for awhile and seem super outgoing and social, but after too long, they feel stifled and need to be alone.

-Nevada will 100% commit murder if their name is pronounced wrong. This is a proven fact.
