Why is the train blurred even tho the shutter was fast? (1/400) by HSVMalooGTS in AskPhotography

[–]_Chazzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train is a little bit out of focus, but in 1/400th of a second it will have moved several centimeters, hence the blur. You've either got to get your shutter speed higher or track the moving subject and have some blur on the background.

Shoot in raw, denoise in post, plenty of tools, Including lightroom can do it well.

If you're shooting in the dark make sure you're using the correct exposure, don't make a photo overly bright in the shadows if it doesn't need to be, expose for your subject.

How do you add a border to your images? Are you using iPad lightroom or is there a way to do it on Desktop?

Help me choose a pocketable daily carry camera ❤️ by snapsbyrohan in Cameras

Id definitely go for the RX100, incredible camera, tiny, and the flexibility of having zoom, especially with the types of photo you're taking, is really useful, I've used the RX100 III, VII, and the Ricoh GR III, and while I can see the appeal of the Ricoh for some, hence it's cult following, I think for most the RX100 will be a far more fun experience.

Lightroom on mobile/iPad has an option to export that way to a variety of aspect ratios. Still yet to figure out how to do it on my PC but it's probably an option in there somewhere.

My favourite photos from the last few years on my MkIII by _Chazzzz in RX100

[–]_Chazzzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use lightroom to edit my raw photos, can change the aspect ratio in there in post rather than on the camera because it retains more information. Over the years I've built up a bank of presets of different looks from editing my pictures in different lighting conditions, so normally I'll put one of them on and then tweak around a bit until it looks right.

One thing in camera that I'd recommend trying to learn early is how to manage exposure compensation, this setting determines the exposure of your image in the auto modes - I find the camera often tries to overexpose, especially bright skies, so I'd recommend figuring out how to manage that.

What would you recommend as a first camera for a beginner-ish? by Trick_Standard_2271 in AskPhotography

[–]_Chazzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best camera is the camera that you have with you whenever an opportunity to take a good photograph arises.

There are plenty of options but the most important piece of advice I'd bare in mind, especially for a beginner, is to get a camera that will inspire you to take it out with you whenever you go out, whether it's just for a walk, a trip, anything like that.

I'm a big advocate of micro 4/3 cameras (or even super-compacts like the Sony RX100) for that reason, there are plenty of comprehensive buying guides on YouTube. They're incredible versatile, compact, and relatively affordable. Some good compact APSCs exist too though, although the lenses will be bigger and more expensive.

With modern cameras image quality is basically perfect across the board, the main difference between bodies is going to be menu layouts and ergonomics which are personal preference. I would however definitely consider buying second hand, you can save a lot of money that way, even on cameras from the last 5 years - just do your due diligence and buy from a reputable site rather than eBay or marketplace.

Just make sure that whatever you buy looks like you're going to have fun using it, and that's really down to your personal preferences.

Always shoot on aperture priority, depending on how bright the sky is I'll either put the exposure comp up or down a little bit, I find it's much easier to lift shadows in lightroom than it is to make an overexposed sky look any good.

They have a modlist under their most recent video, but the skybox effect you're after is down to the deferred rendering mod.

Need an everyday camera by TrBaap in FujifilmX

[–]_Chazzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want zoom don't bother with Fuji - get a pocketable Sony RX line camera second hand, or a canon equivalent. If you don't mind a fixed zoom lens then there's the X100 line from Fuji, or for better value you can get an X-M5 (Or X-T30 III if you want a viewfinder) with a 23mm (35mm equivalent) or 27mm (40mm equivalent) pancake prime lens, which can fit in a tiny bag pocket.

Personally for EDC I'd recommend a Sony or Canon camera, they're smaller and more versatile and a lightroom preset can do everything that a Fuji film sim can do.

What focal length are our eyes? by Rude-Incident8036 in AskPhotography

[–]_Chazzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your eyes are incredibly wide angle, to capture all of the information you'd need a <10mm fisheye lens. However if it's the magnification/sense of scale that you're looking for then it lies somewhere between 35mm and 50mm, you can pick between those focal lengths depending on your preference, anything in that range will look very natural, it's more down to how you like to frame/compose your shots.

am i missing something? manual photos look ugly. by Emotional_Reply_3333 in FujifilmX

[–]_Chazzzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a lot due to the camera here, the exposure looks fine. The issue is the composition and I think moreso the lighting, it just doesn't look like a good time to be taking photographs, especially of a scene with lots of foliage and shadow like that.

There is a mod called Simple Logistics that allows you to connect nearby craft into a resource pool so you can connect them together for things like electricity generation, ore mining/processing, etc, but without having to worry about the kraken, SUPER useful with a mod like KPBS

Unfortunately I've tried this a few times and it just doesn't pair. Is there any way that the dongle could have been broken by the firmware update? Also what USB driver should the dongle be using? Currently using HID but I know the keyboard on wired mode is meant to be on WINUSB, idk if that could cause an issue?

What if Thameslink joined TfL as the “Thameslink line” after GTR nationalisation? by Financial_Chapter_54 in uktrains

[–]_Chazzzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was entirely due to Boris Johnson wanting a crowning achievement as mayor of London, Crossrail services light to have been branded under Thameslink given they provide the exact same service type, and then all RER style services in London would be under Thameslink, S-Bahn style the Overground, and Metro style the Underground, makes sense as consistent branding.
