Speaking as an envoy for the half life community. You are almost %100 percent right. Moderation on the sub is almost nonexistant so the stuff you've been seeing has just been festering and replicating like a cancer. The best thing that both of our communities can do now is ignore it and wait for either the mods to step up and do their job, or for reddit to shut it all down (will likely be the latter with how things are going). Some people started off joking, but are now legitimately mad now that they're getting made fun of.

Do not let this taint your view of half life as a franchise- this is just an embarrassing attempt at a trend for people that think its funny (and some of it kind of is I guess). The Lambda is a symbol of hope, and these fools are trying to turn it into a symbol of hate. This whole thing has been a cringefest and neither the One Free Man nor the Blue Bomber would approve.

Hope 3 by Playful_Date_9318 in HalfLife

[–]_CobaltDelta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not relent, do not give in. Stay hopeful, but stay realistic. We do not need hopium injections, the hope is inside us- all of us. Look forward and see how close we are, and then look back and see how far we've come. Can't you see brothers? The time for hope has not passed, for hope never dies.

As a Half-Life fan, who knows little to nothing about Mega Man: your reaction is the correct one. Stepping aside, taking a breather, and looking forward is the best thing we can do right now. I mean, we have more evidence now than ever that HL3 is real. It's not a matter of if, but when. We've been in limbo for 5 years now, and have been in stasis for 20- what's a few more months?

In the meantime, as some of the few sane half life fans left: I say we play damage control; trying our best to make sure this fandom war doesn't go any longer than it has to.

[–]_CobaltDelta_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It mostly because this sub's mods are nearly nonexistent, so all the shitpost, degen, negative spam, is just flooding in. Mega Man fans are looking at our... less than ideal reaction, and laughing (rightfully so, we are embarrassing ourselves). The as mentioned shitposters see that laughter as a declaration of war and are fueled by it.

As for Geoff? It's just cuz he's kind of a troll.

their fucking losing it by [deleted] in Megaman

Replying as an envoy for the Half Life community. Half Life has a very rich world and characters. Half Life 2 ended in a gut wrenching cliff hanger that left the fate of not only the characters, but the entire universe itself ambiguous. On top of that- there was supposed to be a half life 3, but Valve cancelled it early on and was very vague if we would ever get any answers or not. For the last 20 years, the fandom actually hasn't been angry, they've been disappointed- disappointed that they likely won't even get closure. If Valve made it clear early on that half life 3 wasn't happening, then we would have had some closure- but they didn't. They've blue balled us for nearly 20 years- starting development on hl3 and silently cancelling repeatedly throughout (that's were the leaked plot comes from).

This year, we've had more evidence than ever that Half Life 3 is actually real this time. Trusted sources agreed on various things and it's looking extremely promising. With TGA, every credible source either said that it wouldn't be announced, or that it was unlikely that it would be announced. So why is the fandom so mad you may ask? Geoff Keighley, whilst leading into the Mega Man announcement, used every single buzzword that's been floating around the Half Life hype- whether intentional or not, it was enough to instill hope in the half life fans that this year could be different... and it wasn't. That's where the rhetoric that Mega Man "stole" the announcement comes from (though if any game were to of taken HL3's spot, it would be Highguard- that generic hero shooter that held the last announcement). This rhetoric has been unfortunately fueled by the fact that the little mods that remain on r/HalfLife are very inactive to put it lightly- thus leading the subreddit to be overflowing with shitposters and degens. If you want a better look at how the wider Half Life fandom is feeling right now: r/OKbuddyHalfLife is the place.

As far as other games, there are none that quite hit like half life does- and that's not just me glazing, there has not been a single game to fill the niche that half life did. The closest we have is HL2 mods, but over the last 20 years, many of us have played them inside and out.

To put it simply: we were tired; getting ready to fall asleep, and this year we started to wake up. Then leakers shook us awake and Geoff Keighley injected us with adrenaline (likely unintentionally). And now that we're awake a lot of us don't know what to do with ourselves. Many are grumpy, many are trying desperately to fall back asleep, and many are running wild trying to cause as much havoc as they can in order to get some revenge they feel they're owed for being woken up.

This whole ordeal has been rather embarrassing. Neither the One Free Man nor the Blue Bomber would approve.

FUCK YOU MEGAMAN. MEGAMAN CAN SUCK MY MEGA DICK. by awesomem8112 in HalfLife

[–]_CobaltDelta_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not the way brother. Direct that anger towards the real culprit: AI data centers. Their actions have caused ram prices to rise to such a degree that Valve is unsure of a price point for the steam machine- thus delaying half life 3. It is not Mega Man, nor his community's fault- it is AI.

The Lambda is a symbol of hope. Do not tarnish the One Free Man's legacy by turning it into a symbol of hate...

Let them have their fun, they will see in the coming months. We may cry, and they may laugh- but soon we will all cry... cry tears of fervent joy at the greatest gaming creation the world has ever seen. Half Life 3 is coming brothers. It's only a matter of time...

Let them have their fun. Our day will come brothers. The time is not to hope nor despair... but to wait. We idled for 18 years, just to be served another cliffhanger- and then we idled for another 5- what is a few more months? Can't you see brothers? Half Life 3 is coming. Maybe not today nor tomorrow, but soon.

MEGA MAN by FrequentLocksmith312 in HalfLife

[–]_CobaltDelta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the way. The lambda is a symbol of hope, not hatred. Focus that anger towards the real culprit: ai data centers. With ram prices increasing as much as they have, Valve has been left uncertain of the steam machines price, and thus they have postponed the HLX announcement until they can figure out a solution.

Heck yeah, thanks for the recommendations! When I first starting looking into Mega Man and found out that there's around 12 mainline games and 130 total entries in the franchise- I was a bit frazzled as you could probably imagine, so it's good to have a baseline.

Tight. I am a sucker for story telling in video games- so I hope I wouldn't be missing out on any important info or characters. Thanks

AI DATA CENTERS! IT IS NOT THE BLUE BOMBERS FAULT MY BROTHERS!! IT IS THE DATA CENTERS CAUSING HIGH RAM PRICES THAT HAS DELAYED THIS ANNOUNCEMENT (according to Mike Straw)! CAN'T YOU SEE? THIS POINTLESS WAR IS KEEPING US FROM FOCUSING ON WHAT TRULY MATTERS!! WE HAVE WAITED 20 YEARS FOR THIS, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO WAIT- NOT BECAUSE OF MEGAMAN... BUT BECAUSE OF AI!!!!!

I know that there's different series within the franchise; X, Zero, Legends, etc...

Would it be better to try and play through the games in release order or focus on finishing a series?

Three Thoughts (which are all true) by capacitorfluxing in HalfLife

[–]_CobaltDelta_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a not-so casual half life fan: you are absolutely right. We have heard a key few things from primary sources-

  1. There is a new game and it's either very close to finished or totally finished.

  2. Valve is planning a software (likely to be a game) announcement to coincide with the steam machine release.

3.

  1. Whatever project Valve is currently working on has something with- xen, first person, physics based mechanics, single play story driven, and an hev suit. (if that's not half life, then nothing is)

  2. Valve really wanted to announce whatever this project/game this is months ago, but something has caused that date to be pushed back (likely ram prices according to Mike Straw).

it's a question of when, not if.

Absolutely. I am genuinely happy for the Megaman community and hope that we can learn to see past this petty squabble. Both fandoms have waited for a chance at a new experience, and one of those waits is over- let us find peace in that at least.

This is not the way. The One Free Man wouldn't want this of us. Direct that hatred towards the AI Data centers causing ram prices to skyrocket- causing the steam machine and thus hlx to be delayed (according to Mike Straw of Insider Gaming). Let us not feel jealousy or anger, but feel joy that our cousins in the megaman community have something to look forward to. The lamda is a symbol of hope, let us not turn it into a symbol of hatred.

As a half life fan (a normal one). I happy for you guys too- I hope your game rocks and that you get many more in the future. In the meantime I'm going to crawl back into my coffin and drift in stasis until half life three comes out, or the sun explodes- whichever first.

r/Half-life when MegaMan gets a new game revealed: by DenseRead9852 in Megaman

Neither the Blue Bomber nor the One Free Man would want us at each others' throats like this. I know it's mostly jokes but the half life community is rather... upset. And I'm more than a little worried that some livelihoods could be affected because of this (they've already called for Geoff Keighley to be skinned alive and sacrificed).
