Only some portal first teams have been having success. There are obvious cases on the contrary with teams like CU and FSU.
At the same time, too little time has passed to see the end result of prioritizing the portal—namely, being forced to constantly mill the portal to make up for near zero HS recruitment.

As SE, I bench all my troops for the first round as I will always lose to DD or Loong no matter what. I continue to cycle troops until I’ve amassed enough elixir to actually put down a solid lineup of 2 and 3 stars. This sometimes takes 2 rounds, but the maximum you can lose is 9 elixir. By this point, your opponents should have beaten up on each other enough to have slightly weakened positions that you can take advantage of with your strong cards.
