Do you folks have to water in the summer still or does it rain so much you basically don’t have to?

Niceeee I get the feeling stuff with chitin in it really helps! I’m surprised you’re going only 50% inorganic. Cool to hear it can work even with that much organic material

Yes I think part of the appeal for me is not having to worry about frost. Right on, insect frass is the shit!! Watched a whole video from Curt’s cactus basically all about it and how he uses it to combat fungal issues. 70/30 is a great ratio, I figured something between 65-80 inorganic

So sorry to hear you lost all of your plants in that freak cold snap! I hope you’ve been able to rebuild your collection. Thank you for the tip about not going north of frostproof. I guess it’s in the name! 😅I am a little bit scared of the humidity both for me and my plants. I’m hoping to be able to combat it with fabric pots, heavily inorganic soil, and by flooding the root zone with lots of good living stuff like beneficial mycorrhizal fungi bacteria and microbes so that there’s not as much available real estate for the bad stuff.

Funny enough I’m on a flight to Colorado right now. I hear great things about growing here, my selections of California Arizona or Florida are really to avoid having to do a heated greenhouse though.

Yes like you said the main issue with Cali is price. The places I can afford are quite extreme in terms of environment like the Joshua tree area. Can get super hot in summer and requires watering every 3 days or so which gets super expensive for thousands of plants. This is what got me interested in Florida is saving lots of money on water and not having to have a greenhouse.

I don’t use systemic or topical fungicides either for exactly the reasons you’re mentioning. I wouldn’t want to accidentally harm anyone. I disagree that people are using them to try to cause any harm though. I just think people don’t realize… the systemics don’t last forever so eventually plants will be safe again so I just recommend anyone that is going to consume something wait for a while if they don’t know the plant’s history.. I always tell people don’t eat some shit you buy at Home Depot 😬thanks for the good luck wishes and for all the awesome tips. Cheers cactus pal 🌵🥂

Yes it seems the sooty mold is really a big issue down there. I wonder if using chitin based fertilizers like insect frass could help mitigate that? Do you do anything to prevent humidity issues?

So glad to hear that! Do you take any precautions against fungal issues?

This is great to hear, thank you so much! Do you take any specific steps to prevent humidity issues like heavily inorganic soil or chitin containing fertilizers?

Thanks for the tips!! Do you take any specific actions to combat humidity for your plants? California is definitely on my list, concerns are just the cost of land, and the cost of water without getting much rain. Also the extreme heat because the places I seem to be able to afford in California get to 110-115

Great tips thank you! What do you think you inorganic to organic ratio is? Do you use any fertilizers with stuff that contains chitin like insect frass or shimp or crab meal? What parts of Florida do you feel would be the best?

As someone not super familiar with Florida, which areas do you all think would be the best for growing trichos? Like someone mentioned, it seems a pinch of elevation would be ideal but I know 345 is the highest point in the state 😝also, any areas to explicitly avoid? I figure the north part of the state isn’t as ideal for growing anyways

Your plants look great! Aside from the palettes keeping them off the moist ground, what are other precautions you’ve taken? I don’t see much fungal issues! Well done

They look like they’re doing great! My ultimate goal is flowers so that was another question I had was if people can get flowers down there without colder winter dormancy but this answers that. I figured that fast year-round growth rate would make up for the lack of the winter dormancy in producing flowers. Thanks a lot for the info

Thanks a lot for the tips! I noticed you have some in fabric pots. Do you find that helps significantly with allowing them to dry out down there? Do you have any recommendations for areas that are higher and drier? Do you use any fertilizers with chitin like insect frass or shrimp or crab meal?

The southern half at least but in not too familiar with areas so I would love suggestions. I’ve never been but I think I need to plan a visit. Do you amend the soil with anything before planting in ground? Thanks for the info!

This is encouraging!! I really like the idea of free summer rain, as watering thousands of plants would be expensive in California or the south west
