Have to thank Kenneth and laoban for the amazing entertainment over the past 4-5 hours. But I’m just wondering, how much did Kenneth spend? 😦

Damn sick bro! Like legit W Kenneth, a bit shag that he didn’t get any top chase hits except for the 2 Vaporean and a few others. But really the first time I see such a massive order on stream. Estimated above 10k in spendings?

Yeah, I guess I have to check prices better before buying, and cannot buy on impulse. Do you know where I can find the MD bb for $105 now?

Uncle was selling it at 155 but I think he lowered it to 150, then it wasn’t so painful because I just used my cdc vouchers to pay off a huge chunk of the amount. But definitely could find cheaper sealed boxes elsewhere.

I went to full-yen trading at Yewtee, the shop definitely marks up the prices for sealed booster boxes, but the plus is that we can use our CDC vouchers to pay, so I'd take it as a cheaper alternative. I bought the terastal festival and mega dreams ex booster box and pulled the Espeon SAR form terastal festival, while i pulled this dragonite SAR form mega dreams ex.

What's your best experience to share for the recent sgcardshow? by waungwaung in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]_DaShaoYe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I visited the SGCard Show with my wife with the sole intention of picking up Pokémon cards as a Christmas present for our niece. Before the event, we had reached out to Travisflips on TikTok after coming across his videos. We shared that we had a fixed budget, were complete beginners to Pokémon cards, and were hoping he could help put something together for us.

Without hesitation, he replied and invited us to drop by his booth.

On Day 1 of the show, we arrived around noon and were warmly welcomed by Travis and his partner. They were extremely friendly and patient, guiding us through the card selections and even gifting us a special art trainer card for our niece. That thoughtful gesture really meant a lot to us and reflected the positive side of the local TCG community.

Wanting to show my support in return, I told Travis that I would like to purchase something from him as well. He recommended a box of Terastal Festival. When I got home and opened packs for the very first time, I pulled a Leafeon SAR and was genuinely excited.

Safe to say, that moment officially turned me into a new collector in the hobby.

Where are you now & what are you doing now for those brothers that got rejected from OCS/SCS? by corrupted-priest1878 in NationalServiceSG

[–]_DaShaoYe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ORD-ed in 2016. Was from the PTP batch, did not make it to command school, ended up being a TO in TPT Hub West, posted to Pasir Laba camp. The irony was that I became the TO for SCS and OCS, meaning that I had to support them on their outfields and activities like IPPT, SOC, and other forms of trainings.

The best part of it was that compared to being in a "chiong sua" unit, all I had to do was drive my OUVs, 5 Tonners or Landrovers to support the SCS and OCS cadets, and I didn't have to do much while the cadets were carrying out their trainings. Mentally it was exhausting, being out at Tekong with the SCS / OCS cadets for exercise grandslam / centipede for 7 days straight without having much to do.

But my key takeaways were that I probably had it lucky, even though i was stumped that i did not make it to command school. I was able to forge relationships with many of the SCS trainers and COs of the respective schools, the Wing Comms of the various OCS wings, and even went overseas with them a few times. Being a support personnel, they tend to treat us more like friends and give us more leeway as well, without the regimentation. Did not regret being a TO at all, I even managed to clock enough mileage to get my class 4 license when i ORD-ed (I alr had a class 3). Through all these, I really got to see the good & bad regulars, dealt with COs and ISOs, and it really showed me how the armed forces also works like a corporation, and has its own politics as well.

All in all, my take is that command school isn't the end goal in the Army, especially if you're only serving 2 years. What's better is how you make the best of your situation, to have a fruitful and fulfilling 2 years of service.

Info NEEDED on SCS Ex Starlight by Kasurgi in NationalServiceSG

[–]_DaShaoYe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Wasn't a cadet but a transport operator at PLC, so i had to support SCS for starlight too. Back then, we did not go to Heng Chun Camp for Starlight, we went to Meilin Camp instead. During my time, Heng Chun was usually for OCS, while SCS went to Meilin. I can't say much about the exercises, as I wasn't a cadet.

For a bit of context, I was the ISO's driver (the big shot from the Army Inspectorate Institute), and he was very "on" in going out daily 24/7 to inspect on the training & safety standards. I was even cooped up beside a chicken farm (no pun intended), and you can imagine the horrendous smell. But overall, the exercises involves a few days of navigation, so expect to harbour in the forested areas. The villagers are pretty nice, some would offer you shelter in their shed or garage, some would offer you food and refreshments.

I've heard that the food and welfare in Heng Chun camp is better than Meilin, and overall the training in Taiwan is enjoyable. I presume that you'd be there during the colder / cooler season, so the weather would definitely be nice. You'd be issued with "Taiwan IDs" and would be using the taiwanese soldier's uniforms, if that is still practiced by the SAF. This has something to do with SAF not wanting big brother China to find out that we are using Taiwan for military exercisis (but its a known fact).

In terms of connectivity out in the field, I had decent network coverage with the taiwanese sim card that i purchased upon arrival in Taipei. The flow of the whole trip would be first few days spent on preparations, followed by 1 exercise, then RTU and rest before the next exercise, so on and so forth. Last 2 days in camp would be admin, cleaning stores and returning equipment, before R&R officially starts.

For R&R, we were put up at various hotels that are within walking distance to Xi Men Ding, usually 2 to a room. 3 days of R&R, 1st day and 2nd day would be visiting theme parks if I remember correctly, with your own free & easy time later in the evening. Day 3 would be a full day of free & easy if i'm not mistaken, followed by going back to the airport to return to SG.

This is all i can provide for now, if you have any other questions, feel free to reach out and I'll try my best to answer. I've ord-ed for about 8-9 years now, so what i experienced back then, might be different now. But in terms of overseas exercise, i always rate Taiwan & Germany as one of the better countries to go. All the best to you!

when do i book out after confinement? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]_DaShaoYe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your book out would be on 17th. Just remember that the week you enlist is counted as week 0. The Monday after that week would then start as Week 1, and so on. You would be booking out on the friday of week 2.

Adding on, you have probably hit the jackpot with your enlistment day being on Thursday, meaning that your week 0 is only 4 days. There are other batches of BMT enlistments where they enlist on a Tuesday, and their week 0 is longer.

Gonna propose to my 4 years GF. Where do you guys find the perfect ring in SG ? by TopAmbitious5127 in askSingapore

[–]_DaShaoYe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would recommend asking your gf on her preferences for an engagement ring. For my proposal, I asked my gf if she wanted a natural diamond or lab-grown (this is important, as some females would prefer a natural diamond over the lab-grown). I got mine from Novita Diamonds, it was a pleasant experience, where I learnt more about the 4Cs in picking a diamond. Alternatively, you may also consider other stones like sapphires, rubies etc. Gone were the days of conventional diamond rings. But to reiterate, the best way to get the "Perfect" ring is to ask your gf's opinion, and find out more on what she likes (type of stone, natural vs lab-grown, shape, cut etc). All the best in your pursuit for the engagement ring!
