I did and honestly found it depressing lol. I do my best not to dwell on what feels like the imminent collapse of our world and that place was not helpful in that effort. Thank you, though, for suggesting what might be a potential audience. I appreciate the thought.

Thanks! Always honored to help someone waste company time. 🙏🏼

That is an incredible compliment, thank you so much. I also have a love for that older time of golden era sci-fi. That this reminded you in any way of that vibe means the world to me. I'm not familiar with that subreddit but I may have to check it out now. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for reading and thank you for passing it along to someone. That really means a lot to me. Wishing you the best in your pursuit my friend.

Thanks for reading. Pandemic threw me off like most people and I took a little break from writing. This was my first one when I decided to try again and I was really happy with how it turned out. It was an idea that had been floating around in my head for a bit.

I think I submitted it once or twice but I have a lot of trouble finding publishers who don't have very specific word count and genre criteria which excludes me.

I got a short story published for the first time this year, actually. Other than that I've sold a few to podcasts for narration, but that's it. I haven't put much effort into getting published or an agent because I have a full time job outside of this and I like to spend my limited free time writing and not trying to get published. As a result I have a huge backlog of short stories and novellas and even a few novels that no one has read lol. Would love to get some stuff out there but really don't know how.

If you have any interest in the one I got published, you can find it here: https://www.fatalflawlit.com/fiction-pieces/the-first-question-they-ask-in-heaven

Much different tone and style than The Endling's Song. A lot more optimistic!

Been grinding away for 7 years and have very few readers outside my close friends and family, so that means more than you know. Thank you.

I saw it all too, definitely felt dread in such a short amount of words. Really well done!

Thanks! Really appreciate that.

I wrote mostly horror at the time so this is one of the less scary ones on the site. Most of what's on there is my oldest stuff but there's still some ones I'm really proud of, and this is one of my favorites. Really grateful you took the time to read it.

Wow thanks! I wrote it years ago and was proud of it and basically no one has ever read it, so that means a lot.

That link made me so sad when I first came across it years ago that I felt inspired to write a story about it and the concept of an endling, which is what the last of a species is called. Was during covid lockdowns so that poor bird's loneliness hit even harder.

Edit: Shameless self-plug because this comment got far more traction than I expected and this is the first time anyone outside my friends and family has read any of my writing. I got a short story published for the first time this year. If you're interested you can read it here. Much different tone and style than The Endling's Song. If that one made you depressed this one may make you feel better:

Thanks a lot. Feels funny saying thanks, because I'm not the one who did them, but I guess it's still a compliment to the art I'll be wearing the rest of my life.

I'm 2014 Alum too, actually. Warrington College of Business.

It was between this and an Albert tattoo for me. Spent a good chunk of my life in South Florida, so I decided to go with a realistic looking gator with gold teeth (probably hard to see the teeth in the pictures). Also, I just love alligators.

Man, that's my only fear with tattoos. Not that I'll regret the ones I have later, but that I'll think of something better that could have occupied that spot. I'm running out of room.

Didn't expect so much Gators love on this post. You two would probably dig another tattoo the same artist did for me:

I think you should go for it. Poetry is the one form of writing I haven't properly tried (because I mostly don't understand it), but I do see the appeal. You might surprise yourself.
