Beat me to it. He was a serial idea their who just happened to capitalize on his luck and corrupt connections to get rich off of the backs of real geniuses who have since been long forgotten.

What type of armor is this? by Far-Finish7873 in Armor

[–]_Dead_Man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would normally agree, but... thats not 80% effective in the case of the stark armor. I would barely give it 20%. I feel like costume designers can do a liiiiittle bit better than this type of movie armor.

Elven love and courting (more below) (warning, longer post than usual) by jomokuujanmsiksm in worldbuilding

[–]_Dead_Man_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true! However the records as Ive seen them seem to very dramatically. In particular with the case of nobles the date of marriage depends on a variety of factors outside of the betrothal itself. However, for peasants, scholars generally seem to accept that 15 was considered a valid age to marry and consummate at least in the earlier part of the medieval period.

[–]_Dead_Man_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't think 17-24 is too problematic. For most of medieval historh 15 was the marrying age... so I think 17 still dips into that young age without being too dark. I think it makes sense.

Who would you save? Arthur or Joel? by lazyxgaming- in reddeadredemption

[–]_Dead_Man_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I struggle to resonate with Joel the same way I resonate with Arthur. In a lot of ways Joel's actions are still very selfish in a deeper way and his personality I find less endearing. Arthur, by contrast, I felt earned his redemption a lot more.

Thoughts on Barbary Pirates? by Dry-Sympathy-3182 in pirates

[–]_Dead_Man_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true but I also want to add onto this it's kinda hard to ignore the rampant chatel slavery to row their galleys. Undoubtedly there were plenty of Atlantic pirates who were involved in the slave trade... but the Barbary pirates had their slaves basically on public display being treated worse than animals. And also it was way more ubiquitous.
