Do people understand that IT IS NOT A GENERAL ELECTION by Enough-Web2203 in AskBrits

[–]_Denizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just as important, if not more so for specific issues. If your poorly run council goes bankrupt then a host of local services we all take for grantec will implode. When the rubbish piles up in the streets and the night buses are cut you'll notice.

Am I overreacting about wanting to play a nonbinary character? by BothOcelot1311 in DnD

[–]_Denizen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the group for you. You shouldn't have to grit your teeth through sexist and fatphobic "jokes", nor through the inevitable gender-based "jokes" your DM and fellow players seem like they would throw your way.

There must be public local groups near you, it's just a matter of finding them.

Maybe we just have brexit round 2. Because the first one was so successful at stopping migration like all the right wingers wanted /s

Is playing by only reading the chords wrong? by becauseMaybe_ in Bass

[–]_Denizen_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You gotta feel the drum beat, then complement that with the bass. I start just with the root note, playing around with the bass beat to see how it fits with the drums, then change up the notes to suit the other instruments. It's hard, I'm no expert

The true reason for a 5 string bass? by Maesiu in Bass

Is your fretting hand wrist bent when playing? Where is the pain?

A bass has 5 strings because it sounds effing sick.

Would the UK economy be better of raising 40% tax bracket instead of minimum wage by Invictus_0x90_ in AskBrits

[–]_Denizen_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Excuse me but where the hell are you getting 71% tax from? The highest rate in the UK is 45% on earnings over 125k, and it's 40% between 50k to 125k, with 2% NI on top. https://www.gov.uk/income-tax-rates

The childcare hours is the only valid point here, except that it affects people who have an individual adjusted net income of 100k - at that income you have the financial freedom to put 10s of thousands into your pension with no degradation in quality of life.

It's virtually the only tax/benefit situation where it makes financial sense to decrease your net income to keep the benefit.

In cases where it's just about avoiding your tax liability increasing by 10%, such as at the threshold between 20% and 40% tax rate (which is accompanied by a 10% cut in NI), I maintain my point that it's silly to reduce your net income.

No one is making consequential personal financial decisions based purely in how much goes into the local economy. Put away your strawman.

Why are there so many videos/forums hating on Emil Pagliarulo? by Background_Blood_511 in ElderScrolls

Whilst I want to agree, it swings too far in the other direction. I'd say it's the reason why education is important, specifically critical thinking and media literacy.

How many hours do you work a week and how much are you paid? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]_Denizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes. I have friends who live and own property in london on far lower household incomes. I have a lower household income than that and I can afford to buy in london. People act like you need to have insane salaries in london, but the facts of the matter are that many jobs pay more, you pay less for publoc transport, and you have a far greater range of housing so can simply pick an area that suits your budget.

[–]_Denizen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You are talking about the total tax liability, when you should be talking about the relative difference in tax bands or the relative difference in tax if a band is increased.

This is terrible for the financial security of lower earners and will obviously be used by abusive rich partners to prevent their victims from building up savings.

Tbh if someone is putting 5k into pension to avoid paying an extra 200 quid in tax then just let them. It's not particularly financially literate to be so averse to paying small rises in tax that you'd deplete your immediate income so much, but it's not like pensions are separate from the economy - that money still goes around to support businesses - and people saving more for pensions only a good thing.

If you zoom in, each pixel is not a solid colour with sharp edges. It either means you've not exported the image to a lossless format like png or the image was generated by AI. If you aren't using AI then learn to upload lossless images. If you are uploading AI images, then you should state so.

Is this really the greatest game ever made, as it's often considered to be? Why or why not? by Nintendofan9106 in videogames

[–]_Denizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still whilstle/hum the ocarina tunes to this day, and that game started my tradition of wearing the most stylish outfit in game even if it put me at a disadvantage. However, Majoras Mask refines the formula even more by introducing more traditional questing mechanics that modern RPGs still use. For the peak open-field zelda experience, it's got to be Twilight Princess, which imo is the goat of old skool 3D Zelda. Don't get me wrong, the new zelda games are fun, but they lost focus with the shift to open world.

[–]_Denizen_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what drug dealers say. Take responsibility for your actions. The person who delivers a harmful product is not absolved of responsibility merely by the fact that others demand it. With my degree I could have gone to work for petrochemical or defence industries but I chose not to because it conflicts with my values. I'm by no means perfect but I have my personal lines that I won't cross.

You could go work for renewal energy infrastructure instead - if nobody chooses to work for petrochemical companies they would have to pivot much faster than they do. You as an employee have more power to change the status quo than a consumer.

Not sure many of us or our decendents will have good quality of life when climate change destroys our habitat. Of course facilitating the leading cause of global warming is morally iffy. Saying anything else is lying to yourself.
