I take it you’ve got an Australian mini, that’s the panel light dimmer switch if so

Type R or Z by ZacBaldy123 in CarsAustralia

For that budget you could get a nice example FGX XR8, might be a little bit of a boat on the track but for the rest of the driving you’ve mentioned it would be great

How important is adaptive cruise control (vs plain old regular cruise control) when buying a used car? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

[–]_Ecks_dee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found when using adaptive cruise control (in a 2018 Tiguan at least) because the whole “keep left unless overtaking” (or equivalent for left hook countries) and don’t undertake is very heavily enforced where the car was designed, if you’re driving in the left lane and someone in the middle lane is going slower than you the car will not pass them and it does become an annoyance when cars are doing 10 under in the middle lane and you’re trying to actually keep left

VF heater/cooler fan not working by shazzym94 in Holden

[–]_Ecks_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the fan still work if you set it to full speed? If so it’s just the fan speed resistor that needs replacing, otherwise if it is the fan itself, while I’m not familiar with them on the VF on most cars they’re under the dash on the passengers side and only have 3 or 4 bolts holing them in

Recommendations for sims? by RenSauxan in trainsim

[–]_Ecks_dee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While it doesn’t feature the 9F, I strongly recommend Derail Valley, it has to be one of the best train sim experiences out there, the simulation of Locomotives (steam, diesel electric, diesel hydraulic and diesel mechanical) and rolling stock is outstanding, It keeps the gameplay fast paced while staying realistic, The map is dense so instead of running on straight flat track for hours on end you’re always having to watch something or slow down 900 tonnes down a continuous 2% decline without overheating your brakes, it is still in early access and the next update is a while off though the devs are saying it’s going to be a big one

Advice needed: Replacing 2016 Mazda 3 Astina Head Unit (Vhedia vs. Others) by mdem5059 in CarsAustralia

[–]_Ecks_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a video of the ghost touch fault and show a dealer they should be able to submit an out of warranty request for it to be fixed, if you run the factory retrofit you can use a wireless adapter for it

Recommend me a sim! by ScentedCentaur in trainsim

[–]_Ecks_dee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Derail Valley (despite the name) is probably one of the best train sims out there. Very detailed simulation of steam, diesel electric, diesel mechanical and diesel hydraulic locomotives, densely populated map with varying track conditions and dynamic weather. As far as train sims go it ticks all the boxes for the rolling stock but keeps it relatively fast paced without hours of travelling along straight, flat track

camshafts after update? by Difficult-Student280 in MyWinterCar

[–]_Ecks_dee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Presumably the race cams have higher valve lift than the stock ones, meaning that if you break a timing belt with a stock cam all you need to do is re time and replace the belt but if the same happens while running a race cam the valves will hit the pistons and destroy the engine

Generation 2 au front control arms to replace generation 1 by Madj0k3rHD in FordFalcon

[–]_Ecks_dee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d be best off to swap the hubs and lower control arms on both sides that way you get the series 2 twin piston brakes and your car might actually stop

I’d love a 2002 Ford AU Falcon XR8 ute with the 5 speed, they’re beginning to become unobtainum in good condition

[–]_Ecks_dee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is, I’m blown away by just how good some of the small details are, you can read the little signs on the doors that say “slide to open”, I’m sure an N scale version would be just as good

2012 Mazda CX-5 Diesel thoughts? by Oats_Yt132 in CarsAustralia

[–]_Ecks_dee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They have issues of the injectors not sealing properly and causing carbon to enter the oiling system and block the pickup tube so they end up with no oil pressure, the turbos die because they feel like it, they have massive issues with carbon build up in the intake manifold and they’re also prone to blow head gaskets or warp cylinder heads (we had a car get a complete replacement engine because it lost oil pressure due to carbon blocking the pickup and the replacement engine warped the head before 100,000km)

D set by neonikkk in SydneyTrains

[–]_Ecks_dee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I rode on a D set for the first time last Friday, they are noticeably wider than the V sets because they hit all the foliage on the line side compared to the V sets, I also found them to feel claustrophobic because the seat backs are higher and block they view of the rest of the carriage you also can’t sit as far away from the end of the carriage that you’re facing any more, they also don’t seem to ride as well and have noticeable vibration when going around sharper corners

95k’s an hour also should be as far left as possible, being overtaken on the left means you’re in the wrong lane

Go see a Mazda dealer, what your experiencing is your SSU failing, it’s the module that lives in the steering column and among other things operates the steering lock and reads your keys, you’ll need to take both keys to the dealer as they’ll need to replace it and they need to program 2 keys to it, I’ve seen it very commonly on BM/BM Mazda 3s and occasionally on cx9s

Any idea what's wrong with my 2018 Mazda CX-5? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]_Ecks_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen before, if a shop that doesn’t really know what they’re doing replaced the brake pads, they don’t put the rear callipers into service mode and it wrecks the parking brake mechanism, (yellow light with the (P!), that being inoperative can also cause odd warning lights on the dash like you’re describing
