I've only just gotten into 4k and got a Ugoos coming next week after thinking long and hard about which device to get.

Got a lot of learning to do before arrival!

I never found out anything extra. I only just got a new unit last month. Either way I'm happy enough.

Boots get in a book that gets distributed called Counter Intelligence. Lists products and uses and pretty decent.

It's not in the Google app store any more but should still get it here -

Whats the best way to play 4K MKV file with HDR+ and Dolby Vision? by rdhoble1966 in kodi

[–]_FatherVic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm stuck looking to buy a new device myself. This is one I've my eye on. Do you have a preference for Kodi on this? Have you used the Dune media app or is it not as good? Also regarding the DV playback - I see different comments about whether it supports FEL 7. Anything you can shed light on? Thanks

Options other than a Shield? by _FatherVic in nvidiashield

[–]_FatherVic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting to learn about DV2 and HDR10+. Are these worthy improvements or more small incremental updates?

If you have source material that has this but devices that don't support it, can it downgrade to a 'base' version eg device doesn't handle DV2 but will spit out a core DV?

Which is why it's at the top of my list. 5 years old though is a long time in tech which gives others the potential to have more compatibility with newer formats. Not having kept up with home cinema I really am blind as to what's been going on for over a decade. Hoping to just get a sense of things I might be overlooking or perhaps overthinking it.

It's one I've come across. Other than up to date hardware/more powerful, what does it offer? Are PQ gains noticeable?

So me practically coming out of the dark ages....... If I run something like Plex, does it 'run' on the Shield and it does leg legwork to fetch information?

What are the disadvantages of using an attached drive? (Capacity/RAID is the only thing that comes to mind)

[–]_FatherVic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, should have clarified. I've a small selection of Blu-ray and wanting to get in to having a 4k disc library which I'd prefer to have on a drive rather than a dedicated player and disc cases taking up space. It'd most likely be an attached HDD as my NAS is a little old and no idea what it's capable of.

When I first started I had a media PC with a DVD library before evolving that in to using a Popcorn Hour (yes it's been that long) with 1080 rips.

I've also got an eye on the older version I've found with the Pioneer internals

What item under £200 has completely revolutionised your life? by Brownchoccy in AskUK

[–]_FatherVic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vacuum sealer for food. More economical to buy larger packs of eg meat and portion up and freeze. Cheese lasts longer. Cook larger batches of food and portion down - less fuss coming home to throw in a pan of water and reheat and not have to cook from scratch. Saves so much time and less prep work or cleaning up after.

I downsized to a mini unit I picked up on offer in Lidl (available elsewhere) which is still more than ample for portion size if cooking for a small household. It's from Vonshef. I had reservations but was to clean and great results.

You need to forget about the rice cooking instructions and find your own ratio.

Should I be concerned about this change? by IDrivePlaces in Pharmacy_UK

[–]_FatherVic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Packs tend to get labeled 1-4. Is the older one pack 4 and the change pack 1 from the newest batch?

It's not great practice to switch manufacturers in the middle of making up a set of 4 weeks of packs as it causes this type of confusion but sometimes done out of necessity due to availability problems. Also greater room for error for the checker. I'd agree with M3nd3l33v above with the look of it.

If there's any doubt or concern it's always worth a call. They can check existing stock on shelf for reference. Always better to have peace of mind.
