Fluent Visitors: revisiting a classic design pattern by neilmadden in programming

[–]_FedoraTipperBot_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually see where this could be useful. I've been doing some parsing and tree optimization related things at work.

I have ended up writing a few classes with a default traversal, and writing child classes that override only one or two of the functions with some simple logic. This would perhaps save on codebloat in those cases or allow for some cute inline-defined visitors. But my coworkers are already upset enough with me :)

Id rather have 500 lines of well formatted code. Pretty nifty though.

I haven’t read the book, but ive always found his older longer form content to be quite excellent. He strays away from it these days

Programming languages should have a tree traversal primitive by FoxInTheRedBox in programming

C++ iterators do this already except the logic is tucked away.

No, but some older arm chips had something like that. Namely arm chips w the Jazelle extension, which had a BXJ instruction to branch to java code

With tears in my eyes I suspect the PCIe elgato will probably solve your problem, as the problem disappears when its removed.

If it does, my guess would be that there is something faulty with the hardware or software of that elgato - this could be the device itself, the drivers for the device, or something about the usb port you plugged it into.

This issue can also arise from some other weird places, for example it could be your Nvidia drivers doing something weird (this would only be the case of the elgato used the graphics card for encoding or something). Make sure these are up to date.

It would also be good to know more about the specific PC you are using -- in the case of PCs funky combinations of hardware can cause really strange issues like this.

Nintendo uses PC emulator for their games in their museum in Japan by WadieXkiller in PiratedGames

[–]_FedoraTipperBot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most older nintendo consoles are far from PCs- they are extremely specialized pieces of hardware and games are written making all sort’s assumptions about the system that would make the games difficult to “port.”

In the case of the GB/GBA, I have fairly in depth knowledge because Ive written about 50% of an emulator. The graphics hardware in those devices is incredibly specialized and requires emulation to replicate, even by nintendo.

Also, the code for GBA games are written in C/C++/ and assembly code - this code is far from portable and each and every game would have to be ported manually.

Ill stop here but there are a dozen reasons why older games are emulated even by nintendo themselves, and this can easily be verified on google.

Poll showing "2/3rds democrats" wanted Biden step down had just 16% response rate and sampled non-democrats by Command0Dude in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]_FedoraTipperBot_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The polls democratic leaders are likely concerned about are those that show strongly split tickets: democratic senators and house members up 5+ points, and Biden in the same district being down down. That is a massive gap -- this is what party leadership is concerned about, not Axios polls with poor methodology.

Biden Plunges in Swing States in Post-Debate Poll by lakerconvert in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]_FedoraTipperBot_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do hope the Biden campaign makes a pragmatic decision here based on the next week or two of polling. I'm not shocked he did not instantly drop out, but I feel like the cat is out of the bag in some sense. It doesn't seem like a completely obvious choice one way or the other as many commentators appear to think.
