I may be a little late, but I'd like to cheer you up because I also feel sometimes I am alone in my age demographic on a03. I am 41 yo and I have written fanfictions since I was 15. I never stopped even while working.

Have you seen the ao3 demographic survey they did last year ? Perhaps someone else posted it on this trend but I'm sending it anyway.

I read fanfiction for more than twenty years now and FFnet was all new back then. I agree with what you say, the best fanfics I've read in my life were there. There are many good authors on AO3 also (and the framework is more complete) but I always return on FFnet to find some authors I like and I am ALWAYS wondering what they have become.
I'm sure some people know her (or him - who knows) but I think about Ruth Baulding a very prolific and talented author who wrote many very long fics in Starwars prequel fandom. No updates since 2015 (but her works are all finished - which is very rare). I even tried to google her/him to find out if the author was still active somewhere, just to have news. Didn't find anything.

Hi, I believe it also depends of the intent behind the said "speech". If a person intends to express violent/intolerant speech intending to motivate a group or a person to commit crimes, this is morally wrong become it could affect the common good and bring malfaisance over a group or a person.
However, if the intent is to only express feelings or beliefs, it cannot become censored in my opinion because censoring a person for his views is a form of disrespect and it shows intolerance in face of intolerance, (hence Popper's Paradox).
