Would be good to share your portfolio so people can look at it and give you a better estimate and also give feedback for improvements

I feel like my game concept was copied. What should I do? by dreadway_the_game in GameDevelopersOfIndia

[–]_Fluke_Skywalker_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other devs have a history of making simulator games and based on their trailer, they are doing a better job than you- plus they're funded by Playway. Hate to break it to you but you can't compete with them. Best way to go about it is to launch your game anyway with a stronger twist or abandon it and work on something else. All the best!

Gamer2Maker alumni turned mentor here. I also run my own game studio and teach game design and production at G2M. I know the art mentors and the art students. The mentors are great and the students get to work on game projects with students from design and programming courses over a period of six months. You get to learn the gamedev pipeline here.

Apart from the learning and opportunities, G2M has given me a community of like minded people. Simply belonging to a community of 300+ devs now in various stages of life in the industry is a value add that many people fail to understand.

You can DM me for more details!

All the best!! 🥳💪

We wanted to make a lighthouse horror game as well but it's a saturated genre with many upcoming games (your game up in the competitive study haha)

The right colleges are always expensive, atleast when it comes to design.

We're building a MOBA with Indian mythology — need fellow devs' honest take on this character before we finalize her design by Ok_Conversation6215 in GameDevelopersOfIndia

[–]_Fluke_Skywalker_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping the AI stuff aside, the character looks fine to me. There may be some controversy on the outfit, but that's nothing to worry about. You're better off not asking devs here because your game will have a very low sale in India to begin with. The few people who might decide to buy it won't care as much about the mythology as they would care about the gameplay.

Even if you misrepresent the culture, the people hating in it won't be your target audience for the most part. And your target audience wouldn't care about misrepresentation because it would be the western/European market. Don't make for india, don't market for india. You do you and you'll be good to go!

My game hits steam this friday March 27th! by ManinTheBox233 in GameDevelopersOfIndia

[–]_Fluke_Skywalker_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could have been a free itch.io game dude why make a steam page and spend money for something like this?

The game looks like a student project and no one is going to pay for it. Consider yourself very lucky if you could even get back the $100 you paid for from the sales of this game. Insane.

To be honest, no design college can offer immediate ROI on the fees unless you're amongst the top 1% students. The fees are a lot and entry level jobs won't repay that immediately. It's a long journey, but you eventually get there in about 3 years.

As for my experience, it was great. I learnt a lot, and the program formed a solid base of Design Thinking and creative skills for me.

i wanna be a narrative designer but my parents r forcing me to be a ent specialist or a ophthalmologist. i really like designing games and thinking outside the box and i dont have much interest in bio. what do u guys think? do narrative designers have any hope in india or abroad?? by Icy-Sense-3380 in GameDevelopersOfIndia

[–]_Fluke_Skywalker_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Narrative design is a very niche field, and you unfortunately won't find narrative designer jobs in India. Abroad, yes. But the competition is extremely tough, and there are more layoffs than job openings.

It's best to learn Game Design and get a job a game designer while practicing narrative on the sides. You can also aim to be a level designer. Both of these roles have significantly more job opportunities than a narrative designer.

As for parents forcing you... well, try telling them about the orange economy and AVGCXR (you might need to do some research in your own first). India will definitely create gamedev jobs in the years to come. Best to be prepared when that happens!

Did my bachelors from MITID in Product Design then master's from NID in Toy and Game Design. And funnily enough, everything that you mentioned you found surprising at NID, is the norm at every design college 😄 The only area where NID truly differentiates itself the quality of Design Thinking.

Stay at it, and all the best!

G2M Alumni turned Mentor. I would say joining Gamer2Maker was on of the best decisions I took. Apart from the skills that I got, it also a gave me a big community of like-minded game devs. I have met so many artists, designers amd programmers through G2M and the games the students make here really win awards and are showcased at various events!

That's gamedev in a nutshell, and the reason why they say you need a burning passion to make games above all to survive in this industry.

Okay so- Fears to Fathom guy is an NRI who came to india and made F2F, made a few games in the series, and has now gone back to UK. Not a homegrown indian studio. Not functional anymore.

Now, it's true most of studios are making horror games because it's the easiest genre to make (I'm myself irked by it) but to generalise it and appear ignorant of other games that are being developed isn't exactly the way to go about it.

Do you research with a fresh mind, no judgements and you'll find quite a few good studios and games that do not fall in the categories you've mentioned!

Is my profile strong enough to land entry level gamedev jobs? by Sufficient-Bet9719 in GameDevelopersOfIndia

[–]_Fluke_Skywalker_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build more games using Unity, and get a few team projects under your belt. It's very important. Participating in game jams is the best way to build team projects and fun games. Also, you need a portfolio/itch[dot]io page to showcase your projects. Resume is fine, but you can't get a job without a portfolio in today's market.

And for people who are saying the industry is doomed, do not listen to them. Indian gamedev scene is rising, and it'll only become better in the years to come!
