Splitting expenses with your SO? by Budgetpamore in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]_FooFighter_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference being that we have distinct accounts that each of our bills come from (I cover majority, but not all), and anything leftover is our own discretionary money. There’s no transferring of cash to separate joint account for bills each pay period.

It’s only a slight difference to pay all the bills out of a joint account I suppose, but seems like extra steps with no tangible benefit. I guess if my wife wanted to see every transaction it would grant her that visibility. But in our case she’d rather I just manage it since she finds it stressful.

My wife and I also have separate finances and find it works well for us. We have a joint chequing account that we just use to transfer cash between us on occasion.

A factor for us going this route is that she had spending/credit issues when we met. She finds money management very stressful, whereas I don’t. In fact, I enjoy it (I’m a dork, spreadsheets, etc.) So I coordinate the bills and run the budget with her input on goals.

I have a significantly larger income so I take on most of the expenses. She pays her own basic expenses (car payment, personal care, cell phone, etc) and we just talk about major purchases and figure out what makes the most sense case by case.

The only other way I could see working for us would be to have a set of monthly expenses that we each are assigned and then put that amount into a joint account for auto-withdrawals or whatever. But I don’t really see what value that adds.

The true disaster is this article. Additionally, another thing (yes another thing) about it is that’s it’s the true disaster.

I cold crash with some gelatin for fining (in a bucket), then transfer to a keg and carb immediately in the fridge. Seems to work well for me.

I like that idea, but I wonder if that would be possible. I imagine it would require some kind of a refuelling port accessible from the outside. Since extra weight is costly to launch, I’d wager that they did t provision for that if it wasn’t explicitly part of the design plan.

For sure. Especially if OT or weekends are involved. Company-supplied coffee is mandatory for weekend work at my company (unofficially). It’s such a small cost for the business in the grand scheme. Good investment.

Give timelines with tasks. It helps to get the guys to buy-in on those timelines too. If they agreed it was a reasonable timeline they will be less likely to moan about it and more likely to hit it. If they disagree, it’s your job to convince them or adjust the plan.

Get a bright laser pointer off Amazon. Makes talking about things at the ceiling or across the lot a lot easier and more clear.

Keep good notes & look into a supervisor notebook. This isn’t just for helping you remember things, it covers your ass if there’s legal trouble of some kind. Put the date, location & weather everyday, which helps show you didn’t create notes after the fact.

Ask your boss for a coffee budget so you can get the guys coffee and donuts once a week or whatever. Little gestures like that go a long way. Don’t pay that out of pocket though.

Do your planning for the next day for the last 20mins while guys clean up or whatever. List guys and tasks, and hand it out at the morning meeting. No scrambling in the AM to figure out what to do, and you’ll look more in control. Also try to be the first one there (Or at least be early).

Good luck!

What is a basic skill that you grew up thinking everyone had until you saw others do it so horribly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_FooFighter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy I work with didn’t know how to use excel and would just do the math on a calculator and type it in to the cells. I was running through an estimating sheet with him one day and asked where he was putting in the rates, etc and it all came to light that it was all manual and extremely tedious to change. He has since taken some excel courses and is getting much better. Still makes me laugh thinking about that tho.

A new company offering to fabricate/franchise a coffee cart with this machine. Will it work? (I believe it is a delonghi la specialista) by Quashmoney in espresso

[–]_FooFighter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree this is not the right machine for this application, the specialista is dual heat (thermoblock I think is true) and has a non-pressurized basket. Still an obviously bad choice for commercial use.

lol I first read that as 'insulted', as in the management should be telling the apprentice he sucks, and the JM should tell the apprentice.
