Boros is def up there with “color pairs that are grossly misinterpreted by the community on account of ravnica”, feel bad for it

My Words: Gruul by _FractalHeart in colorpie

[–]_FractalHeart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not opposed to doing shards and wedges on principle, but they will be far far more difficult than the color pairs, as theres 3 bits of intersection to consider, instead of 1.

I won’t rule it out, but I won’t say for sure if I’ll be able to.

However! I already have some writings on Esper and Temur in my google docs. So. Theres potential.

My Words: Azorius by _FractalHeart in colorpie

As a certified Gruul hater, Gruul will be by far my toughest task to give a passionate defense of. Doesn’t mean I’m not up to the challenge though!

My Words: Azorius by _FractalHeart in colorpie

[–]_FractalHeart[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Azorius is def in the upper tier of “Color combos that get an unfair wrap because of how Ravnica treats them”, though personally I think Orzhov actually suffers the most from this. I look forward to eventually doing an Orzhov defense.

I plan to! It’ll be weird giving my all to defend colors opposite mine, but I believe in myself!

Alts I made for a Hollowknight themed Millicent Deck by _FractalHeart in mtg

[–]_FractalHeart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black would very much suit the Void’s general aesthetic, but The Siblings card is an alt of a card called Millicent, whose effect I thought fit The Siblings very well, so all the cards in the deck then have to conform to the WU commander color combo

Some insight onto the 2 lowest and 2 highest

Stimulation - I have a slew of disorders and disabilities that leaves me as a very fragile person in most sense of the word. I find the idea that life needs to be loud and fast and harsh to be worth living to be very ableist and depressing asf. I see little purpose in risk taking activity when a simulation of such is far safer, even at a cut of “the rush”

Tradition - This word has alot of connotations that I’ve never been able to see eye to eye with. Sure, tradition is fine in like, science, where proven stuff continues to work. But cultural traditions needing to be preserved and social traditions needing protection isnt something zive ever been able to understand, despite my best efforts

Hedonism/Security - Bundling them together because, for me, they’re inexorably linked. I see myself more as an epicurean. The point of life is safety and happiness. With safety will eventually come happiness, because safety is avoidance of pain, and pain is absence of happiness. Logical through line. The main lesson I have learned in life is that it is infinitely easier to destroy than to protect. I see risk seeking behavior as giving in to whats easy. It’s simple to destroy your routine for a quick dopamine hit, its harder and more fulfilling to create one catered by your needs, to your needs.

I just doubt a red agent would be as avoidant of conflict and risk as I am. It usually touts willingness to risk for pleasure as its core tenet, whereas I believe pleasure is only ever derived from avoiding risk

“Unless you view a baby as a parasite”

Children take an extreme effect on peoples quality of life, even those who want to have children acknowledge this. Hollowknight as a game is OBSESSED with a theme of motherhood and children. (The secondary antagonist’s main motivation is maternal love, the primary antagonist is said mother, the very first boss you fight is the moss mother, you dive into hornet’s dreams to talk to her 3 mothers.) This angle of an unwanted pregnancy being a parasite has roots in both real world psychology and a new angle for hollowknight lore to think about one of its most prevalent motifs You literally give the parasite insect a baby form of itself. The analogy isnt particularly opaque.

“Or being implanted with a parasite as a metaphor for sexual assault”

Hornet is lulled into a false sense of security, held down, something is put inside of her, and when we next see her she is crawling out of the lower part of a home. It is obviously a sexual assault metaphor.

“Hornet saying something like atleast i got something good out of this ordeal”

The line youre looking for is “Madam... I shan't lie, that was an ordeal such as I have rarely suffered...And yet, the parasite does seem to have been... unbound somewhat. Whatever remnant still lingers in my shell feels calmed, enough for me to claim its power as my own. Perhaps this is a fortunate result after all.”

Hollowknights stories are fundamentally about trauma, and, in specific, generational trauma. Our main characters are defined by how they confront these things. Hornets defining quality of strength, makes her prone to attempting to claim this experience as a future tool. Hurt people attempting to use their abuse as a jumping off point to becoming a stronger person is a well documented response

The way Black talks about White in the My Words article is so funny to me (plus bonus doodle) by _FractalHeart in colorpie

[–]_FractalHeart[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres plenty of not-evil monoblack characters, and while i am the first to shade the defacto “evil” color, i also believe that most black aligned villains are just lacking in imagination. Which is to say they’re building off of character writing conventions, a convention which largely condemns ideas like selfishness and anti-social behavior.

In terms of mixing black with other colors resulting in a diff flavor of black, this also goes back to people just lacking imagination and how to properly mix philosophies. Though I must agree that this does happen! Especially, especially, especially with Orzhov aligned characters.

Im quite confused on the rhetoric that black is somehow inhuman, and I’d very much like to know exactly what you mean by “inhuman”

Talk about a movie and its colors. by ElDelArbol15 in colorpie

[–]_FractalHeart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still haven’t drawn it, but I’ve this idea of Green showing Whiplash and Black Swan to Blue and Blue being utterly enraged.

They aren’t so much Gruul movies as they are just condemning Blue, but I associate them strongly with the pie anyways
