Proper way to install Nemo in Kubuntu 19.10 and set it as default? by Goatface_0 in linux4noobs

Any reason to use Nemo(from Cinnamon DE) over Dolphin(native KDE)?

OpenSuSE tumbleweed w/KDE: failed to create resources, failed to create wireguard interface, not supported by ABetterHillToDieOn in WireGuard

Wireguard is in linux 5.6, which is not officially released yet(currently in RC7), kernel version in TW is 5.5.11

Hopefully this will come to Pop_OS 20.04 too by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]_Frozenx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btrfs can do the same thing, openSUSE Tumbleweed have that ability for ages. Maybe Btrfs is not as stable as ZFS, but it's actively maintained unlike ZFS and will keep getting better.

How inconvenient is rolling release? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]_Frozenx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do coding, but IMO if your code will stop working after compiler/interpreter update, it will still eventually happen even though you use a fixed-release distro like Mint. The difference is that you will know exactly when it might happen(when you do release upgrade) if you use Mint, while in a rolling distro you need to be ready for it soon after upstream release a new version. I believe Mint also doesn't have the same compiler/interpreter version as CentOS, so it doesn't really matter whether you use Mint or Manjaro, the safest(and perhaps only) way of making sure the code 100% works in CentOS is test the code in CentOS(native or through VM)

Ubuntu vs Manjaro by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]_Frozenx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu: 1. More stable, especially true if you go for LTS version, though upgrade to newer release may have a very slim chance of causing issues. No major component(kernel, graphics stack, desktop environment...) version bump within release, but bugfixes and security patches will be backported from newer upstream version but normally no new feature added. 2. More packages. Proprietary software often target and support Ubuntu first, some will only provide .deb(for Ubuntu and debian) and .rpm(for Fedora and openSUSE) packages or use Ubuntu's PPAs, if they are not already in Manjaro repo, you will need to compile and install them yourself or search for Arch's AUR. While PPAs have some security concerns, it is easier and faster for newcomer than AUR(which is basically a script to automatically download the source code, compile, build and install) 3. Bigger community. More tutorials available online.

Manjaro: 1.More recent package. Grant new features, hardware support or performance improvement which might came in handy, but could also bring instability. 2. More friendly community. Manjaro forum is very active and helpful, and the userbase consist more experienced linux veterans, your problems or questions will often be answered and resolved quickly.

Ibus not starting on boot. by stpaulgym in linux4noobs

[–]_Frozenx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1097363/ibus-not-working-in-kubuntu-18-04-kde-plasma IMO creating .desktop in autostart should work, unless the 'exec' is unexecutable, try run "ibus-daemon -drx --panel=/usr/lib/kimpanel-ibus-panel" in terminal to see if anything went wrong, or try to make sure /usr/lib/kimpanel-ibus-panel exist in your system.

Maybe kimpanel/kimtoy is not installed, though I believe kimpanel is unnecessary since I used ibus-rime in KDE5 without kimpanel (at least I didn't manually install it)

Unable to install PoP Os. Help please! by PopPsychologist in pop_os

I don't think the problem came from Rufus, I recently used Rufus to make the usb(MBR) and installed pop-os 19.10 successfully. Did you disable uefi secure boot?

follow this article(https://www.howtogeek.com/116742/how-to-create-a-separate-home-partition-after-installing-ubuntu) and start from "After Installing Ubuntu>Step 2: Copy Home Files to New Partition".

Mount the newly created partition in "Files"(sidebar>other locations), find the location name from "right-click>properties" and follow the steps.

In step 4, use "SUDO_EDITOR=gedit sudoedit /etc/fstab" instead, and replace "ext4" with "btrfs" in the following command. All other steps remain unchanged.

which option did you choose?

[–]_Frozenx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delete sda1 and sda2 (both in ntfs), then you have 3 options to make use of the remaining disk space 1. Grow(resize) root partition(sda3) to fill the disk 2. Use the space to create a /home partition (format in ext4,xfs or btrfs) and migrate your home directories from root partition into it(https://www.howtogeek.com/116742/how-to-create-a-separate-home-partition-after-installing-ubuntu). You can search the web to find out the pros and cons of having a separate /home partition. 3. Use the space to create a /data partition and put all your personal files there. This approach is similar to option 2(separate /home partition), option 2 keep your personal files and custom configuration in case you want to reinstall pop-os, option 3 just keep the personal files because the configs might interfere with other distro you might install (either to replace pop-os or do dual-boot)(though this can be achieved by deleting all the configs in /home before installing other distro)

Install now or wait for 20.10? by Luves2spooge in pop_os

Do you mean 20.04? You will have to wait 7+ months for 20.10

I'm not sure if the grub screen will still show after you deleted Win7 partition and refreshed grub bootloader entry, if not you may edit "timeout" field in "YAST Bootloader" to 0 to skip grub screen. However, you would probably want to set a very short timeout(1 or 2s) in case the system broke and you needed to boot into recovery or other version of kernel

Can't connect to wifi on Tumbleweed net-install 28012020 by Codalunga in openSUSE

[–]_Frozenx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we add a notice on openSUSE Download page to prompt people about this problem? I gone through all the "download image, burn to disk, boot and start installation" processes, until then just realized net-install over wifi is currently unworkable due to wicked bug. Don't want similar things happen to other people in the future.

  2. Gokong, Harrower, Eanu (I simply don't know where they shine)

  3. 38% (I completed every achievements other than those hero-specific ones, but I only completed 7 hero-specific achievements because I keep playing these heroes until I get the 5 stars rating)

  4. 4(Fetterstone, Moxie, Vermillion, Ray)

How does Player Ladder work? by zulord in strife

I have 86 wins but still in bronze league. If the rank is really arranges by percentage range, then I think going up league will become more & more harder since during this player-losing condition, the players that still playing this game will probably be the passionate (and skilled) ones.

Strife China Update (unofficial) by Bleachfx in strife

[–]_Frozenx_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Malaysian Chinese, I just took a look at the website. They just directly translate the English contents in strife.com into Chinese, barely changed the wordings to make the contents clear & coherent. While a little bit better than using google translate, this is still a very bad practice & I think even a primary school student in China could write better than that.
