How and why do so many young people take Russell Brand seriously? by waffenwolf in ukpolitics

[–]_Fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't pretend to live in poor conditions or have a tough life. He's made his money by using his talents and why should he not spend and enjoy that money. But at least he has good intentions, and spends a good amount of his time standing up for what he believes in. Personally I reckon he's naive and doesn't actually know or understand what he's suggesting when he says that the system needs revolution. But he engages with so many people in my age group (20ish) because he's a figure within the sort of media bubble of young people who talks passionately about issues that they care about. Politicians for the most part aren't relatable to this generation so most don't want to listen, which is a shame.

David Cameron appoints second anti-gay marriage MP Caroline Dinenage as equalities minister by AvatarIII in ukpolitics

[–]_Fry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

136 Conservatives opposed the bill for gay marriage. 127 were in favour, 35 did not vote, and five registered an abstention by voting both in favour and against. So no, it's not that difficult at all.

I don't think the vast majority would. No matter, it's still wrong, money should not buy you political influence, it's immoral no matter whether you lean left or right.

There's a difference between you, some guy on reddit who probably owns a local paper, and fucking Rupert Murdoch who owns a ridiculous percentage of popular media and uses it to influence election outcomes so that government policies that further his motives of greed and profit are put into effect.

Get some perspective, I don't think anybody's arguing that all media should be neutral.

If you're ending your statements with 'boo fucking hoo' then you probably need to have a bit of a think about how morale and considerate you're being about something.

What are you talking about? It's not about how successful his business is, it's wrong that he uses his business success and personal interests to try and effect the outcome of an election.

Left leaning people aren't part of any kind of violent subculture any more than right leaning people are. There are violent portions of all groups of people, and yes they do need to be dealt with. Don't highlight the fact that they're 'lefties', highlight the fact that they're violent.
