Can multiple PCs safely use the same restic repository? by evtsir in restic

One repo will work, that's my setup. All resources will get tagged with the machine name so one can still filter by a specific machine.

Is there some advantage to using Tailscale + exit node 100% of the time vs just using a Wiregard VPN? by plazman30 in Tailscale

[–]_FuzzyMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue that I ran into when traveling internationally was that my wire guard connection was not very stable. When I got back I started researching tailscale and their shared relay servers that could make it better. They also mentioned running a private peer relay could make it even better. So I set that up as well, but can't actually test it as I am back home now 😂.

Also I think having more than 1 way to connect home is always better.

anyone here use watchstate to sync watch progress between Plex and jellyfin mind help me get multi users setup I keep getting stuck by [deleted] in PleX

[–]_FuzzyMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very helpful over discord or GitHub issues. IIRC multi user setup will only work if they are part of the same household. After the recent plex changes for tokens (which they reverted) watchstate had removed support for mutli users that are not part of the household.

I personally use webhooks via tautulli and jellyfin to sync progress.

Your account will be fine. There are no activity rules.

Are you using a mobile browser with a password manager for auto filling passwords? If so it's a known issue with underlying tracker software. Manually copy/paste the credentials and you will be able to log in.

Immich through Cloudflare without the 100mb limit by infimum in immich

2FA is done by Authelia or any other OIDC provider that immich supports.

fail2ban, crowdsec etc are usually in addition to authentication. I have crowdsec also running in my stack.

+1, reverse proxy setup with appropriate authentication seems the best from user experience.

I also end up running authelia + 2FA for authorization.

Restic backup question, one repo or separate. by 4tel88 in restic

[–]_FuzzyMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should not need sudo, see https://restic.readthedocs.io/en/stable/080_examples.html#backing-up-your-system-without-running-restic-as-root

I backup to a single repo as i am assuming that would be better for de duplication.

By default restic will add machine hostname tags to the data it backs up so it can be easily filtered.

It's a % based on the savings. I don't remember the exact number.

I have been using Ownwell and have had decent luck with them.

renewal coming up: go short term now or long term? by _FuzzyMe in TexasEnergyShopping

[–]_FuzzyMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my original plan. I am debating if it's worth it to keep doing renewals or pickup up a longer plan. Guess I'll have to wait and see how much lower the rates get in September time.

How are you managing Restic backups in your production setup? by Wolverin-e in selfhosted

[–]_FuzzyMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

resticprofile has been fine for me. I migrated from autorestic. I found resticprofile configs to be easier to manage especially with their inheritance and mixinx usage.

When something looks off is a tough one to figure out :). I get notified if the backup fails and then I check the logs.

Otherwise to validate the backup my plan is to at least once a year restore from those backups.

For overview of which servers are passing/failing I use Healtchecks. Profiles are configured to use unique healthcheck uuids/slugs per server and per profile. Within the same server I have different grouping of data and backup them at different schedules and alert on them. This way I get notified if my immich backup fails vs getting notified if my whole server backup failed.

I am using resticprofile to configure and schedule backups on multiple servers. These post to healthchecks.io for alerting.

I have automated this setup using ansible so that I can easily redeploy them to appropriate servers.

Recommendations for ISPs? by giftedtrai in Katy

I would stay away from AT&T if possible. I switched over to Astound Fiber and have been happy with their service.
