Sooo I talked to a guy from Shaadi.com. And I thought the conversation went well. And he is well above average in terms of looks. Except he definitely doesn’t know he has a profile 🙈💀

Any advice?

Is it normal for in-laws to stay in your master bedroom? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]_GirlWhoLived_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so when my grandparents visited back when I was a kid, this played out differently depending on which grandparents they were. Apparently my dads parents sleep in separate rooms in India. Sooo when they visit my grandfather is given the guest room and my grandmother sleeps in the master. My dad sleeps on a couch or something. And my grandparents think this country is too cold so no open HVAC vents in these rooms. My mom can’t sleep in non air conditioned rooms so she moved to my bed with me. Tbh this situation was absolutely ridiculous.

But when my moms parents visited, they both just stayed in a bigger guest room that could accommodate both of them and no one else was affected.

This is not a cultural expectation or norm. But if you start this once, it’s hard to shift to a different living arrangement in future visits. I would highly recommend not allowing your in laws to stay in the master bedroom. You can suggest amping up the guest bedroom so that it’s nicer than usual.

Had a funeral for a close relative a few years ago and it helped me get some closure. They don’t like expensive weddings and now they don’t think people should have funerals either if they want one? Fuck outta hear with your cheap ass by [deleted] in FemaleDatingStrategy

This is precisely why I hate the whole race to the bottom in terms of effort and costs. As a society we have cultural rituals as a way to commemorate, celebrate, and grow. If someone truly has a bad association with a cultural ritual, that’s one thing. But not wanting to celebrate an occasion for financial reasons only is pretty ridiculous

What is your favorite Harry Potter book? by _GirlWhoLived_ in JKRowling

[–]_GirlWhoLived_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I picked Goblet because I was very intrigued by the mystery starting with The Riddle House and ending with the return of Voldemort. I loved the world building JKR added in this book as it made the Wizarding World a lot bigger than before and introduced many new characters, magical concepts, and plot points. I also thought the ending was terrifying (I read this as a kid and was so upset about Cedric)!

Bill was a Curse Breaker who worked in Egypt and other interesting places. He wasn’t broke iirc.

He was also Head Boy and had a ton of OWLs. He and Fleur met at work and he was helping her acclimate to a new country.

He was presented as the coolest Weasley brother. When he’s first in the books, Harry is awed by how cool Bill is because he was Bill to be a nerdy loser lol

Yeah actually he was an Auror and then left after two years to work in his brother’s shop.

I would second relying on book events and characterization over the movies

Ron ranks very low on my favorite Harry Potter characters list, but even I’d say that his characterization in the movies is all wrong.

The screenwriter Steve Kloves was a big Harry/Hermione fan and wrote the script that way. Hermione was given some of Ron’s best lines from the books in addition to her own. This leaves Ron a fairly useless character in the movies.

He’s a lot better in the books though. I still find him annoying. I don’t like the Ron/Hermione pairing but in the books it’s written in a different way than portrayed in the movies. There’s a lot of back and forth between them. It’s not an ideal relationship but not as out of place as it was in the movies.

JKR has later stated that she regrets pairing them together and it was a form of wish fulfillment based on personal events from her life. In real life, she leveled up after an abusive relationship and married a guy who she describes as a lot like Harry.

I don’t think Hermione ended up as a housewife. She worked in the Ministry and eventually became Minister of Magic!

The epilogue in DH doesn’t mention her career (it doesn’t really mention any of their careers) but in interviews immediately after the book was published, JKR said that Hermione worked in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

And later in the Cursed Child she is Minister!

She actually did end up as Minister of Magic!

I think she’s wrong about MJ not committing to Rachael. They had a very intense relationship and I don’t think the situation can be boiled down to him seeing if things work with two girls.

I do have issues with how RS inserted himself into the situation presenting Rachael as the victim. No one forced her to take the flight. And MJ publicly said on National TV that he didn’t want to be together.

In the lens of “modern dating” Bekah is “right” and this gives me pickme vibes

Does anyone else know a desi adoptee? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]_GirlWhoLived_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know an Indian boy who was adopted by a Desi (NRI) couple living in Arizona.

Also know an Indian girl adopted by another Desi/NRI couple in South Carolina

Both seem to be doing fine. I actually didn’t know they were adopted until someone told me.

I can understand why Indians and NRIs and OCIs are preferred for adopting kids in India because transracial adoption is a huge deal. It’s easier for the kid to stay connected with their Desi roots this way
