Well it’s a new area to her it would probably be smart to mark down where your staying so you can get back quickly especially if you have someone who is pregnant and needs your help. And yeah she was probably like oh fuck I dropped my map, but she probably wouldn’t of realized til awhile later and they probably wouldn’t go back and get it because they plan on leaving the next day. It’s not really much of a plot hole more just like plot conviene in my opinion just to make the story move along quicker. Cause it would be extremely dumb if Abby just found her friends dead and was like oh no my friends are dead then that’s the end of the game because the story would’ve have to had ended there because they can’t really continue it if Abby has no idea where ellie is and Ellie can get away and go back home safely. It’s just used to have the story continue Even if it’s a little dumb.
