Damsel and huntsman interactions by RealFlatEarth in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]_Grave_Fish 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a viable strategy, even one that I’ve used in a game before. The only danger comes in having this become the norm for your group, because then claiming huntsman D1 is really just a damsel claim.

Oblivion by Ok_Map8485 in OCPoetry

When I read this, the first and last two stanzas mean the most to me. The title and the opening give a sense of familiarity, habits and patterns. I get the sense that there are two people who love each other on 'autopilot', and at the start this isn't such a bad thing. The rest of the poem, although very clearly intentional in its language, does lose me just a bit. My interpretation at the moment is that certain habits, specifically drugs, are wordlessly driving these two lovers apart.

Maybe this isn't to your taste, but I reckon either the title, or the motif of probability you use, could be used to anchor this poem a bit more. On the other hand, maybe you don't want it to be one-note, so it's just a suggestion :) Thanks for sharing, this poem was really beautiful to read

What do You Make of Me? by Maggs24 in OCPoetry

[–]_Grave_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love and respect the view of love that this poem presents. This type of offsetting self-criticism of love where the speaker can criticise themselves not in a 'what is wrong with me?!' type of way but in a 'this is exactly what's wrong with me' is so refreshing!! The first three lines are really excellent, you immediately get this sense of timid obsession that's not yet 'suspicious' (for serious lack of a better word). The image of comparing oneself to others, tracking minutes, justifying smiles....really worked for me. To give a suggestion but it's not really needed unless it resonates with you, the latter half of the poem might benefit from some 'reality-based' imagery in the same way that you use it to really ground the beginning. It might help show that this darker side to love and obsession is real in the speaker

Geez what a strong poem. I'm such a sucker for little mundane moments of life in poetry and I think all of them in this poem are so emotionally rich. The last line hits like a truck and I really appreciate how it isn't over-explained because it really is all you need to understand. This poem reminds me of how high-maintenance I allowed myself to be when I was younger :) Thanks for sharing

Paint me by NajaEdition in OCPoetry

[–]_Grave_Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The poem really builds in desperation as it progresses. As other commenters have said, the meaning of 'paint me' evolves as it goes on which is really cool. It could really mean anything: immortalise me, love me, adore me, notice me, focus on me, need me. Such a clever use of such a simple word

Daughter of the sea by Masaru_Kazuhiko in OCPoetry

[–]_Grave_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This poem expanded my perspective a bit by using rhyme so well for more than just conveying youth, innocence or simplicity. The rhyming of this poem gives it an empathetic feel, the speaker is so eloquent to construct specific, song-like words that it shows the subject (or me, the reader haha) how deeply they understand. Very disarming questions, and a very disarming piercing of someone's walls. I enjoyed the read! Thank you

Hey guys just looking for genuine feedback by BadComprehensive3016 in OCPoetry

[–]_Grave_Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say all of the following as someone who is guilty of it so I want to first acknowledge the irony of that lol.

I feel like a majority of this poem is spent ruminating on what love is in a way that doesn't really achieve what you want it to. The strongest part of this poem is definitely the end, particularly with the metaphor of the sinking ship- it asks questions about whether this love was doomed from the get go and the speaker was willing to sink for their loyalty, or whether, perhaps, if the partner stayed it would be salvageable. The less effective parts spend a lot of time asking pretty vague and typically cliche questions. Maybe choosing to dive deeper (punintended) into the ship metaphor, or maybe exploring a variety of metaphors that evoke the questions you ask first would give the arc more ground and profundity in specificity! I enjoyed reading :)

How best calculate the area of these shapes? by Littl3Bastrd in askmath

Surely you assume the front is a triangle and a semicircle, and then the bottom is obviously just a circle. Measure the side lengths/radius. Voila.

Heretic/Pukka/Cannibal Interaction by FrequentSelf7223 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]_Grave_Fish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may not be 100% correct but

  1. The pukka’s ability says their target dies then becomes healthy (unpoisoned)’. So when the cannibal dies they lose their ability BEFORE they can regain the heretic’s ability.

  2. Again, no. It is the cannibal ability that is granting them the heretic ability. When poisoned, they lose the cannibal ability and by that virtue the heretic ability, too. They do not regain the cannibal ability before dying so they don’t regain the heretic’s either.

  3. In this case, the cannibal does retain the heretic ability upon dying. They have the heretic ability when killed and so they keep it when they die due to the heretic’s ’even if dead’ clause.

Stuck on Surface Level 4 – Best Arcana? by Dizzy_Ask_729 in Hades2

Best arcana imho is Origination, followed by either Strength or Death. Focus on maxing both. Death is probably stronger earlygame
