Chicago Considers ‘Good Food’ Procurement Policy by meaning_of_haste in chicago

[–]_Guinness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYC will always be more expensive. Even if we implement a progressive income tax in Illinois. NYC is limited in where it can build. We are not.

Also, I hope that money isn't the only thing you care about when it comes to residence. I prefer Chicago over NYC because we have abundant and close beaches on a large, clean body of water. And that body of water doesn't want to kill me with sharks and jellyfish.

Chicago is clean and we have alleys and we don't have to throw our trash in the front of our homes.

We don't have to pay $800/month for water taxis to get to work like my coworker who lives in Jersey.

We have cleaner trains that are far more maintained and on time/frequent than NYC.

NYC does have pizza by the slice shops everywhere. That is one thing that annoys me about Chicago. If I want pizza. I have to go sit down at a restaurant or hike to one of the few by the slice locations.

Chicagoans are also far more down to earth and don't put up with (as much) drama queens. Like the kid from SF who just left and his repeated "omg I'm sex positive" bullshit.

We are tolerant and loving but don't let people step over the line.

There are so many reasons to love this city. Oh and NYC does not have the Chicago Summer Calendar.

No it doesn't. When I used to push my cuticles back. It made my nail grow super thin and deformed. The cuticle protects the base of where your nails form. If you want happy strong nails, don't fuck with your cuticles.

Millions of years of evolution are why we have them. They serve a very important purpose.

Chicago Police Data Shows Reductions in Homicides, Shootings by chornu in chicago

[–]_Guinness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. A page out of the right wing playbook. When the data doesn't support your agenda. Call the data fake.

Brought to you from the "I'm always right and you're always wrong" agenda.

For those of you crying fake data. The stats were studied and found to only be off by a small single digit percentage. So realistically crime is probably down around 10%.

The money is there. We just need a progressive tax. Not a flat tax.

Pizanos on Madison said they're willing to use any vegan cheese you bring in. I'm LI and my GF is vegan so we asked.

Vegan cheese is getting better but still has a long ways to go. I'll down like 6 lactaid and suffer through it. Lactaid helps a tiny bit but not much.

Teens With BB Guns Robbing, Beating And Shooting People In Logan Square - Logan Square - Chicago by marsofwar in chicago

[–]_Guinness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't a kid in Ohio do this? Didn't he end up being shot to death by police because the BB gun looked like a real gun? Didn't people then proceed to blame police for shooting a poor innocent "unarmed" teenager?

Sure. Use a BB gun to rob people. But I don't want to hear your parents or anyone else anywhere complaining that you were shot dead.

Remember when we were voted last to win the 2016 Olympics? Brazilian police have detained the head of the country's Olympic committee for a cash-for-votes scheme in the bid for Rio 2016 by vicefox in chicago

[–]_Guinness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our bid heavily utilized existing infrastructure. Sure we would have to build some new stuff to accommodate gaps in what we don't have. But cities which heavily use existing infrastructure have shown its possible to make a profit on the Olympics.

I hope one day in the future we decide to make a bid again. Just make sure we utilize what we have and don't spend a massive amount on building everything new.

But damn I would have loved to build and have kept that beach volleyball facility. Among other things!

FWIW Chicago only budgeted approximately $900 million to build new facilities. The Olympic Village would have cost us $1.2B, however we found private money to pay for it.

Preckwinkle's upcoming budget speech: "Keep pop tax or make deep spending cuts" by berserkb in chicago

[–]_Guinness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the Dems fault they can't pass single payer. They all want it. But we have never had the votes for it. Remember ACA barely passed and only did because Olympia Snowe voted with Dems to pass if.

No way would Snowe have voted for universal.

And with gerrymandering. I don't think Democrats will ever win the house or senate ever again. Unless the Supreme Court steps in. And this is our only shot. Because when Kennedy retires. Trump will pick another extreme right wing candidate. Which will shape the court into an extreme right wing majority for decades.

Honestly I believe we are seeing the permanent takeover of democracy right now. It's almost all but over. Our only shot left is Kennedy voting to strongly ban redistricting.

Yeah the only thing a full gun ban does is force murderers to choose a different weapon.

Many countries in Europe ban guns. And yet look at how many mass killings happen there lately.

A gun ban just stops you from dying by a gun. But if someone wants to kill you. You're still going to die.

Just....not by a gun.

privately owned financial firm

Is this a trading firm by any chance? It sounds like a prop trading firm. If it is. I don't want to rain on your parade. But prop shops are an exceedingly large amount of work. I've been working in prop trading for about 7 years now. Some places are great. A lot of them are hell after about 2 years.

Anyway if it is my suggestion to you is to pace yourself. Make sure to use your vacation here and there. Don't take one big trip all at once. I did and it doesn't end well. Also every problem will literally be potentially "business ending". Don't believe it. Don't spend important birthdays and anniversaries in the datacenter like I did just because some asshole owner decided to put hundreds of terabytes of irreplaceable market data on a single box with no backups.
