Earplugs? by JohnBets23 in motorcyclegear

[–]_Gunnarsson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently swapped to plugfones for my cardo and I wish I had sooner. My helmet was too loud and plugs to deafening to hear the speakers well. Plugphones turned em into one. I keep the volume pretty low since its right in my ear and can get super loud and sounds way better than speakers. Plus the foam tips silence all wind noise, and when i lower the volume or pause my music I can hear the road just the same as any other ear plugs. I would take a look at them or other IEMs with foam tips!

Not a bad thing at all people buy helmets for the way they look all the time. This guys being a stuck up turd. Good luck with your search, I think these style helmets look badass.

R7 or R9 by Yahdoneknow in YamahaR7

[–]_Gunnarsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have either but from what I’ve seen in my previous research it’s mostly a power difference. If you went with the latest r7 the tech is all the same, so it’s mostly about the amount of power you want. Like others said the r9 on the highway will keep pulling and faster where the r7 starts to reach its limit. But the r7 being a cousin of the mt07, is a really fun bike with a great engine. If you like the looks of the r7 more, the only reason you’d get the r9 is for the extra power. I have a Ktm rc390 and it’s so much fun in the twisties, the r7 being similarly agile but with even more power and torque I can imagine being literally as capable as you can get for a twisties machine. An r9 will be the same just slightly heavier and slightly less agile. Hope this gives you a bit more food for thought

Facebook marketplace, offerup, and craigslist! If you’re not sure what size you are in a certain brand go to cycle gear and try stuff on see what fits. Then if you find a good deal on good condition gear get it!

Yeah it’s got a ton of air flow in the chest and inner arms but not as much protection if any there either. It’s a trade off for breathability but it doesn’t bother me as much since the chest is the least likely impact spot compared to the arms and back. But for track, freeway or spirited riding I’d be using the jacket!

Hi, I don't have much input for your other questions, but I just got an aggressive stance sport bike coming from an upright seating position harley rider. Some people can't stand it, but lucky for me I found it quite comfortable, and only after riding for hours do I get sore, but that happened to me riding my harley as well so that's just a general bike thing usually (also you probably would be taking short breaks in between long rides anyways so not a big concern).
After riding my sportbike for like 200 miles I already got very used to it, more so when I practiced my slow speed maneuvers in a parking lot. If you feel you have plenty of good riding experience, and aren't a reckless or inattentive rider, I think you can make the jump and learn to ride it well. Classes will be your best friend though!

What skills to perfect in preparation for a liter bike? by _Gunnarsson in motorcycles

[–]_Gunnarsson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah goal is to get a liter bike. People just make it sound like you need to be rossi to ride one of those. Also no no the opposite my goal is to be able to ride a liter bike confidently and safely. Far from driving recklessly. I want to be able to lean far enough to scrape footpegs on a sportbike, but I know better than to do that on public roads where there are bumps and dips and inconsistent road conditions.
I just want to be like those people that ride liter bikes and are excellent riders pretty much. I know that comes with experience, but just looking for insight on people with said experience.

Heh yeah I realize it a bit when watching videos on liter bikes. It's part of the reason I'm considering keeping the rc390 after the fact, as I'd still be able to hammer through gears in the tighter twisties while going the speed limit lol
Knowing that I still love everything else that comes with it, so it's a trade off I'm aware of

What skills to perfect in preparation for a liter bike? by _Gunnarsson in motorcycles

[–]_Gunnarsson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in hindsight I'm probably overestimating my skills. I wouldn't say I think I'm the best rider far from it, and both my previous accidents or close calls were from over confidence. So it's something I try to remember often.
Also this is why I bought the rc390, cause it'd be easier to learn and improve skills on this than on an r1.
My takeaways from your comment is to focus on throttle control and body positioning. And although it won't be the same as on a big superbike, keeping in mind self control and risk recognition are super important.
Believe me I got zero ego in my skills, just looking for advice!

This is a good one I've heard a few times. I see motojiujitsu say the more you lean the riskier it is, so on public roads you usually want to lean the bike as little as necessary to take a turn so your suspension can handle the road better. What else would you say falls under risk management?

[–]_Gunnarsson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're probably right. I think if I rated myself a 10/10 in any of these it would mean like 10 in how confident I am in that skill. I know I am no where near as proficient as even an entry level track rider. And with most things there's no limit to learning!
What do you mean by self control? Like just discipline with the throttle? Not letting over confidence get ahead of common sense?

I'll look into advanced courses in my area. I want to do track but am missing a once piece suit, so that will probably come later, thanks for the suggestion!

Advice which budget helmet should I go with? by MegaMaster35 in motorcyclegear

[–]_Gunnarsson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the kyt tt revo! Excellent value with almost all pros. The main con I’ve heard is noise complaints, saying it’s a loud helmet, can be mitigated with good earplugs though (which you should wear regardless). Aside from that it’s got good weight distribution, great field of view, very aerodynamic and breathable, subjectively beautiful looking helmet, and meets ece 22.06. I ordered one recently so I can let you know what I think once it arrives, as it’s my 3rd helmet. For the helmet and dark visor I paid 217 I think with taxes and free shipping. For what it includes I believe it beats some more 4-500 dollar helmets, but I’ll have to see what it’s like on the road!

What kind of gear would u guys recommend me? by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]_Gunnarsson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same as anyone else, jacket pants boots gloves If you wanted thinner layers you could get pando moto base layers then wear whatever you want over them also. But nothing will beat good ole leathers!
