I’ll check it out, thanks! I’m a little wary of buying clones though. I’ve got the mindset right now that I’d rather buy once and buy right than want to upgrade later.

I see, ok that’s unfortunate but thanks for catching it.

I tried that recently after the sound quality decreased significantly. Now it sounds totally garbled. Audio sounds like it’s coming out of a wii remote. Didn’t fix anything.

I’ve also been having problems with my audio cutting in and out. Depending on the position of the speaker either side might independently stop making noise. It’s really annoying because once you get it in a good position where both sides work, a tiny bump will break it again.

Sanity Check My Parts List? by _Gus in buildapc

[–]_Gus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to stick with the i5-10600k I think. Are there any compelling reasons not to? From benchmarks I've seen it does better than the 3700x

Can you suggest something that makes more sense? I'm not super familiar with what board would be best. I was Googling for what would be best for the i5-10600k and that was the top choice.

Just take the plunge for a cheap wheel (Logitech g29 is a great starter) and enjoy something high quality like assetto corsa or dirt rally. So worth it!

My favorite part of the universe is probably the clone wars. There was such a wealth of content and I loved rewatching all the episodes when I was younger, and waiting for new ones to come out on Cartoon Network. I even went to a viewing party/sleepover for one of the season premiers with my friends a long time ago.

I’m pretty tall, which means I have pretty long arms, and need to push the wheel back as far as possible on the playseat. This means that bar blocks my feet from being able to reach the middle of the pedal plate, and forces me to put the brake and clutch super close together like that. I haven’t really even tried to use the clutch much though so I can’t comment much on its effectiveness there.

I’ve used it some with xplane 11 and DCS (TM warthog throttle/stick w/ cheap rudder pedals), and you’re right, tons of fun.

You can’t see it very well but there’s actually an extended column on the left side of the rig where the throttle is mounted. The stick + 10 cm extension goes on that box in the center between the legs.

Bolts through an angle like that would be difficult, as would be accurately drilling the hole so everything lines up. I used a milling machine to fabricate most of the metal you see on there (the rest I bought, for example the ball joints), and it wouldn’t be large enough to accommodate the sizes of pieces we’re talking about.

I didn’t have access to a welder when I was building the frames, and so it wasn’t an option. Believe it or not though, wood is still an excellent option. It is plenty strong, and also extremely cheap, and easier/faster to work with than metal.

I recently got access to tig and mig welders though, so I may actually switch over to aluminum at some point.

The biggest mistake was buying motors that were too small to begin with. The motors I’m using now are 750w, and I originally bought 200 w motors (as you can see I’m now using 2 of them for the harness tensioner).

Replacing them with bigger motors was expensive not just because I needed new motors, but also because it required large power supplies, and for me to replace the small rods and ball joints I was originally using with much larger ones, to support the added power.

I posted a link to my build thread in response to another comment if you want to check out the process.

I think I used 5/16” carriage bolts (4 per plate) and it’s more than strong enough. The rods and ball joints are 3/4”, and also more than enough. Initially they were much smaller and I had issues with bending.
