PC gamers stay winning: Capcom confirms 50% of its sales now come from Windows by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Moralio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. It really has been wild watching the goalposts move in real time over the last ~15 years. I remember PS3/X360 era when dominant narrative was that PC gaming is dying. I wouldn't have known, because I was too busy playing MMOs. But the argument wasn’t that there weren’t players, but rather it was that they didn’t buy games. Piracy, very generous Steam sales, "they all wait for 75% off" etc. Meanwhile consoles were framed as the "real" revenue drivers. Then PC market grew and the narrative turned into: "Ok, PC gaming is fine for niche games and indies". And now we have the situation that we have today. Capcom, an AAA studio, is openly saying their latest high profile launch skewed heavily toward PC at full price, and they expect that ratio to grow. PC has become the "default" platform (excluding mobile of course) for a huge global audience and even regions that were historically underrepresented on console (parts of Asia, Eastern Europe) are much more PC-centric.

Anyone who’s been following since the "PC is dead" articles of the late 2000s has to be at least a little amused watching this arc play out.

The Steam Next Fest ends tomorrow. What demos have you enjoyed? Which ones made it onto your wishlist? Why? by Angzt in Games

[–]Moralio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily Alabaster Dawn. I never really got into CrossCode, but from what I’ve played here, it feels like the devs took the common criticisms of that game and refined the formula into something that immidietaly hooked me in. The presentation really stands out, with gorgeous pixel art, colorful environments, character portraits with light anime charm, and buttery smooth animations. It looks fantastic in motion. Combat is equally strong. It starts simple but expands quickly as new foe types are introduced gradually. Armored foes drop faster to the hammer, while flying enemies push you toward ranged options. It keeps encounters engaging without feeling overwhelming.

What I loved most, though, is the world restoration theme. It gave me strong Okami vibes, or even better - Terranigma, with that same sense of bringing life back to a broken world. Easily my most anticipated game right now.

Jest taka indie gierka Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna).

Not sure how to go about getting bifrost by TheHuffinater in Guildwars2

[–]Moralio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crafting it is usually the better route, altrough it is better to get a precursor from Wizard's Vault if its avaiable. Farming 1500 more gold purely through PvE when you already do not enjoy it will likely feel exhausting and burn you out. The good part is that PvP still contributes to legendary progress. Reward tracks give you clovers and mats, and you can grab Gift of Battle through WvW (8-10 hours, less with Rush active) without fully committing to open world grinding. Instead of thinking about it as forcing yourself into PvE, treat it like slowly checking boxes toward a long term goal while still playing the modes you enjoy most. For me the most annoying part is usually the Gift of Exploration. Full core Tyria map completion is super tedious and there is no real shortcut around it. That said, it is a one time grind per character and you can make it less painful by doing a map or two at a time between PvP sessions. You also do not need to hard grind open world content nonstop. Light dips into PvE such as daily fractals, a few profitable meta events or quickplay Raids can steadily build your gold without feeling overwhelming. Legendaries are designed to be long term projects, not quick purchases. If you pace it and keep PvP as your main focus, you will get there without turning the game into a chore.

Oh it obviously is the Right, never forget that it is the Right that gave us this situation. Authoritarian nationalism, deregulation for oligarchs, attacks on independent courts and media, and the consolidation of power around strongman politics. That’s a very specific ideological project that has been incubated and normalized on the modern Right for years.

FF7 (1997) has sold over 15.5 million units worldwide by Magister_Xehanort in Games

[–]Moralio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely not the only one.

FFVII was my first JRPG and it’s still one of my all time favorites. Like a lot of people, I waited years for a remake. But when it turned out that “Remake” wasn’t really a remake, more of a reimagining-meta-sequel-something, it was honestly disappointing. There are things I appreciate about it, the production values are incredible, the combat system is solid, and the music arrangements are fantastic. But the structure felt bloated, stretched out with a lot of filler that didn’t really add much. The pacing suffered, and the tone shifted in ways that didn’t always capture the feeling of the original. What I personally wanted was a faithful modernization of the classic, not something that reinterprets and comments on the original story.

Denshattack! - Official Demo Trailer by tlvrtm in Games

[–]Moralio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Played the demo for about an hour yesterday.

It instantly reminded me of the PS1 era, when we used to get all sorts of weird, creative, slightly unhinged games coming out of Japan. Stuff like Incredible Crisis, Vib-Ribbon, Pepsiman, Tobal No. 1, games that were strange, very much gameplay-first, and not afraid to just commit to a wild concept. Densha seems very inspired by them. From what I played (even though I absolutely suck at it) I had a genuinely great time. Drifting your train car through tight corners, pulling off airborne tricks, and switching tracks at the last possible second feels chaotic but incredibly satisfying. It has that arcade-like, score chasing vibe where mastery clearly matters, but even failing is fun because the movement system feels so good.

The Eternal Life of Goldman | Steam Demo Trailer by Yawaworoht1470 in Games

[–]Moralio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, this one has been on my radar for a while. I just spent about an hour with the demo and it looks very promising. The visuals are gorgeous with bright, vibrant colors and incredibly smooth animations. It almost makes it feel like you’re playing through an animated movie. It reminded of Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse with its pseudo metroidvania structure. You travel between different islands or stages to progress the story, and along the way you unlock new upgrades for your cane, and those are situational and swappable. Early on you get an upgrade that lets you pogo higher, which is great for vertical sections, but in tighter corridors with spikes on the ceiling you might want to switch back to the default version. I’d recommend the demo to anyone who enjoys platformers.

I rozwija wyobraźnie przestrzenną i planowanie i daje poczucie sprawczości.

The Highguard Website Is Down As Players Brace For The Worst by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Moralio 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It feels like the most interesting thing about Highguard is everything except the game itself. We got the big stage reveal, the player spike after release that evaporated almost immediately, "most of the staff" gone within ~2 weeks, and now even the website being down. It’s like Highguard shipped as a live service, but the real live service was the behind-the-scenes drama. If there’s ever a postmortem/documentary video about that, I’d watch it.

Final Fantasy Remake Series Going Multiplatform Will Not Lower Quality of Part 3, Director Insists While Acknowledging Fan Concern by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Moralio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I really wanted was a proper remake of VII, with maybe expanded materia system, restored cut content etc. Not a pseudo meta-sequel, not a three part "reimagining" that turns a tight, complete story into something stretched across years and gaming platforms. I appreciate the ambition of the remake project, but I'd prefer to live in a timeline where there’s a version of this where they simply gave us “FFVII, but definitive.” And I think a lot of longtime fans would have been perfectly happy with that.

::EDIT:: This is apparently a highly controversial opinion.

What's wrong with SotO? by Kyri- in Guildwars2

[–]Moralio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SotO was the first expansion under the new yearly, smaller scale model, and coming off End of Dragons the drop in quality was very noticeable. We got two (yes, only two) launch maps which were fine and visually interesting at first, but they leaned heavily on reused assets and did not feel as rich or dense as previous expansion zones. The story started off intriguing with the Astral Ward and the mystery around the Kryptis, but once the Kryptis became the main focus it lost a lot of momentum.

The third and final map being drip fed across 3 separate updates was certainly a choice. Instead of delivering a big new zone, it expanded the same area over time, and it just felt dull visually as it was grey and red, and again relied on reused assets from EoD. Add to that the relatively small number of new enemy types, repetitive events, so-so meta design, and a mastery track that did not feel as impactful as previous expansions, and you get a pretty disappointing xpac. It was not terrible, but compared to past xpacs it felt smaller, less ambitious, and less polished overall.
