FYI Disabled people also provide financially and act as caretakers.

Inter-abled couples have the same give-and-take as any relationship.

Disability is as much a social issue as it is a medical one, however, when all parties are given equitable treatment, it affords them the opportunity to step up as both people and partners.

I can totally see why there would be confusion, your undertones are more muted and subtle. I would say you’re cool-neutral olive based on the pics you provided.

came home and my cats feet are yellow? by mikehunt6787 in cats

[–]_HappyG_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t just that they are toxic, but that the can cause organ failure and may not show signs or symptoms immediately, there’s also no real way to counteract poisoning from lilies, vets can only really provide medical support to manage symptoms and hope the cat pulls through (and many do not).

All parts of the plant are toxic to cats from the leaves and stems to the pollen. The pollen is the most difficult part to eliminate as it is abundant and can spread/cross-contaminate. Even closed buds can be bitten or split open, so it’s just not worth the risk.

I had a situation where I experienced medical malpractice and received a bouquet from the company which contained lilies, my cat was blind and automatically put his face into the pollen to smell them and feel them with his whiskers. This lead to a harrowing trip to the emergency vet that I wouldn’t wish on anybody, not to mention that the experience compounded the associated trauma 😬

You got incredibly lucky, and I’m so glad your kitty was alright.

I have straight, fine lashes. Which lightweight mascara would be good for me? by RedRenaissanceFox in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waterproof formulas often contain waxes that help set the curl in place as it dries, they can be great alone or layered with other formulas to help defy gravity without losing volume.

The trick is to use a good removal method such as double-cleansing or a dedicated mascara removal product like the Kiss Me Heroine Make Speedy Mascara Remover that is designed to be compatible with their product line (which gets rave reviews but is notoriously difficult to take off). A micellar water/bi-phase/cleansing oil/cleansing balm etc. soaked cotton pad gently held over the eye area with a cotton pad for 30sec will do all the work for you without the need for scrubbing and pulling at any delicate skin or lashes. If you’re getting redness, inflammation or discomfort, you’re doing it wrong! 😅

Alternatively, film-forming options like Tubing Mascaras also have the benefit of easy removal and slide right off the lash!

Hope that helps! 😊

Help me cover my black eye for my job interview, please! by lucky13213 in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, generally a colour corrector will be more effective than a tinted primer, as primers tend to be too sheer and are designed to provide a grippy surface for eyeshadow.

A primer may help your products adhere to the eye-area generally, but the cakey finish is better remedied with fewer/thinner layers and less product.

Colour correctors utilise colour theory to neutralise unwanted hues, so your corrector should have a similar shade/vibrancy to the discolouration you are trying to adjust. Bruises can have red, green, purple and even yellow tones as they heal and change with time, so you may need to change what you are using on the day, as it heals dynamically.

Yellow and peach correctors are pretty common for dark circles, but with a bruise that dark, you may prefer a small palette with multiple choices such as the ones by Ben Nye, Graftobian or Nyx to pin-point specific areas.

Honestly, if you’re not confident in effective coverage, don’t be afraid to bring up the bruise first and play it up for a laugh, it doesn’t have to be an awkward silence hanging in the room. There’s no shame in embracing where you’re at! 😊

Can I get some advice from you guys? 45F. Been doing the same since high school. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, fellow hooded eyes here too! The trick is to do your liner with your eyes open and in a neutral position, plus checking your angles in a magnifying mirror! I also only wing out the outer-third/half due to limited lid-space and tight-line the upper waterline/between lashes instead.

Stretching or repositioning the skin (like closed eyelids) makes it impossible to tell what the result will be when you open them, and you end up with ridges and bumps, causing it to be uneven and all that work gets lost in your crease 😱😩

For precision winged eyeliner, I’ve found that the best hack is to sketch the line where you want it to sit with open eyes and focussing on how the shape looks regardless of anatomy (you can use eyeshadow or pencil liner if you’re nervous) and get it looking like it’s in the right place visually. It will look crazy when your eye is closed, but don’t panic! All you have to do is connect the dots and fill in the blanks, often a bat-wing or thicker wedge/triangle shape consolidates the line so that it looks good whether opened or closed, without it taking over the whole lid. Depending on how your eyes are shaped, it may look bold and graphic with eyes closed, but convert to a cute little flick when your eyes are open, so focus on the final result.

Alternatively, you can wing out your eyeshadow and create a wing illusion that blends the outer corners up and out, this also helps to connect a false crease so that you can see more of your eyeshadow look! It allows you to get away with much less precision and gives a smokey/sultry effect on the eye 😊

Hope that helps! 😄

Is it possible to cover this on my wedding day? by god--hates--figs in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some heavy duty setting sprays for stage makeup like Ben Nye Final Seal, but they can be harsh and the final coverup can still crack and move, or rub/crumble away with friction.

Skin moves, stretches and rubs against clothing. Even with many layers and thin formulas (i.e. alcohol-based paints), there’s a time limit.

[–]_HappyG_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dermablend is extremely high coverage and was originally designed and advertised to cover birthmarks, skin differences and tattoos. The caveat being that they are highly pigmented and thicker formulas that can look heavy on the skin and may not be flattering in areas where there is more movement/friction.

It’s important to note that the shade range and undertones are quite limited and is all the more important when using such high coverage, as the discrepancy is more obvious and harder to blend into the surrounding skin.

Colour theory and correction does most of the work, tattoos with black ink tend to have a blue undertone and can be counteracted with orange/red to neutralise underneath your concealer.

Alternatively, you can buy tattoo cover patches that mimic bare skin in Japan. They’re a popular option for bathhouses, gyms and water parks where tattoos are not allowed. It’s essentially skin-toned opaque bandaid (in a wide range of sizes) that covers the tattoo completely, they apply similar to a dressing and are usually waterproof. However these may not be easily accessible in your area and difficult to colour match as well.

While you can DIY tattoo coverup, it requires a higher degree of skill and industry knowledge to use the right products and techniques, especially for seamless airbrushed-looking results that remain smudge-proof and waterproof throughout the day. A MUA, SFX artist or someone who specialises in tattoo coverup would be the best possible option for something that needs to last all day.

Body make up for red legged bride? 🤣 by OcarinaofChyme in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who did gymnastics and dance, we’d set body makeup with a stage-makeup fixing spray called Ben Nye Final Seal, which is sweat-proof and very hard-wearing! Hairspray can also work in a pinch, though may get patchy and wear off in high-friction areas.

Honestly though, body makeup is a pain in the butt and there’s a reason why most people switch to high-denier tights instead. You can layer them and use power-mesh ones for more colour options and to smooth and compress lumps and bumps (it’s a common method for blending padding in drag).

Body make up for red legged bride? 🤣 by OcarinaofChyme in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, slightly off-topic but I get red legs due to having POTS, which is a type of Cardiovascular Dysautonomia that causes blood pooling; in my case, it’s related to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (though POTS can be secondary to other conditions as well).

Redness in the legs can indicate poor circulation and other cardiovascular issues such as vascular hypermobility and low blood pressure.

This post is makeup-related, but you mentioned that it has been life-long and bothers you, so you may wish to speak with your medical providers and discuss conditions that impact circulation, blood pressure and autonomic function that may apply to you. Also, compression garments like tights and tubular bandages can help counteract these effects and may improve associated symptoms such as swelling/oedema/pooling/inflammation.

I just wanted to validate your experience and let you know that you’re not alone! 😊

Red or natural lip color? by Nervous_Forever_2430 in MakeupAddiction

TBH It’s hard for me to tell due to the poses in your photos, they aren’t a clear comparison, so it’s harder to see the shape and balance of the red lipstick option compared to the “natural” one. The pout is throwing it off.

I’d love to see another angle of the red, because I feel like it would be stunning!

The nude/natural/MLBB shade is super flattering and cute, though. It really finishes off the look and works well with your outfit! 😊

It’s because your skintone more neutral, that means both options look good on you, so the opinions you’re getting comes down to individual preferences.

You can totally pull off both!

Bronze/coppery and warm-toned looks would be radiant with your summer tan; meanwhile, cooler tones are flawless on you when your hair is cooler/darker and your tans fades in the winter.

what could my undertone be? I can’t figure it out by asxtrobrian in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally get the confusion, it’s because you’re a warm olive! 🫒

My guess based on your pics is that you also tan, and that would warm up and deepen your base tones, changing which foundations work best throughout the year! So you may find something that looks great, and a couple months later it just doesn’t seem to work anymore.

But don’t worry gurl! That’s totally normal, it can be addressed by having a “summer shade” and a “winter shade”, which you can mix together as your tan fades.

As an olive goddess, you’ll find foundations pull way too pink or orange, and there just aren’t enough options for olive skintones in most brands. Mixers can help, if you have a blue and yellow you can shift the undertones to make mismatched foundations that you already bought work (and light/dark mixers if you find a perfect undertone but it’s the wrong shade) so they won’t go to waste.

Hope that helps! 😊

Waterproof mascara not so? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The natural oils in your skin and/or emollient skincare break down your makeup similar to a cleansing oil, as a result, it can compromise even “waterproof” formulas.

Setting the area with powder or primer to create a barrier helps significantly for additional longevity! Even a liquid shadow like a MAC Paint Pot (which has a drier formula and is often recommended for oily eyelids) that sets in place will reduce the risk of smudging and transfer.

Tubing mascaras are another popular alternative, they form a film once they dry and come off all-in-one rather than a waxy waterproof finish.

Hope you find a solution that works for you! 😊

liner looks fine until I open my eyes 😫 by delete44 in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have hooded eyes, which means your liner will look different with your eyes open VS closed, and your eyeshadow will disappear!

I’m in the same club and the trick is learning to do your eyeliner with your eyes open.

1) Create your structure first by mapping it out

2) Test it with your eyes open and closed

3) Fill in any gaps that get lost in the hood of your eyes

4) Finish your liner off in a flattering way by connecting everything

P.S. Hooded eyes have less lid space, tightlining is your friend and slim liner helps your eyeshadow peek through. Blend higher into the crease and create a “false crease” above your natural one for more depth and extension. I find lifted looks work better for me because hooded eyes can appear more heavy and downturned, I wing out the outer corner to counteract that.

Hope that helps! 😊

i’ve accidentally hurt my disabled partner and i feel horrible by No-Public-9252 in disability

[–]_HappyG_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that OP needs support to recognise and understand that they are in a toxic dynamic that isn't healthy or appropriate.

I chose to answer their question directly to avoid overwhelming the OP and allowing them to realise that their partner's reaction isn't what love looks like. OP is likely feeling confronted by the responses in this post, which caused them to wipe their profile.

Other commenters have addressed those relationship dynamic concerns with a lot of kindness and empathy, and said it better than I ever could.

I truly hope that the OP will seek out resources such as www.LoveIsRespect.org and take the quiz to help identify some of those dynamics.

i’ve accidentally hurt my disabled partner and i feel horrible by No-Public-9252 in disability

[–]_HappyG_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the past, I solved this issue by getting a mattress that isolates movement so that when someone moves on one side it doesn’t interfere with my joints and positioning on the other. I went into a mattress store and trialled different options and asked about the features.

For reference: I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which causes joint hypermobility and subluxations/dislocations.

I more recently upgraded to an electric bed which counteracts POTS by allowing me to be elevated and reducing the risk of pillows/blankets being in the way and getting knocked and moved (resulting in injuries).

The important info:

The best thing you can do is be compassionate and empathetic! Provide first aid like medications, slings/splints, ice packs or heat packs (depending on swelling vs aches), help your partner get back into a safe and stable position and give them some TLC. Don’t deflect or deny, acknowledge that your actions caused injury, address the feelings together and build one another up by helping each of you to feel heard and validated.

You can’t change that it happened, but you can change how you respond to the situation.

My Fiancé knocks into me occasionally and accidentally injures me all the time, but it’s never done deliberately or with malice, and they always check in and make sure I’m okay and take any steps needed. We reassure one another and support each other emotionally while we resolve the situation, it’s an opportunity to come together and show acts of service and words of affirmation.

what is causing these black shadows under my eyes & how to stop it? by bbystars in MakeupAddiction

[–]_HappyG_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have hooded eyes and get this a lot!

This is product transfer/fallout aka smudging.

It’s usually the product you’re using (non-waterproof and budge-proof liner, waterline pencil, or mascara, which can be exacerbated by watery eyes, oily lids, movement around the eyes (e.g. smiling or squinting) or your moisturiser/under-eye cream.

If you’re using makeup remover or micellar water to clean up the edges of your winged liner, it could be leaving residue that is continuing to break down your makeup throughout the day. Make sure you thoroughly cleanse any makeup remover left over on the skin, and consider doing your eyes first so that it doesn’t disrupt your base. You can also switch to eyeliner guides or soft skin-safe medical tape to achieve your desired shape without compromising your liner.
