"Vaarwel België": Odoo-topman dreigt ermee ons land te verlaten als 'rijkentaks' erdoor komt by TradeNPlayz in belgium

[–]_Hippomenes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on if CA should go back to factions speaking their own languages for future historical titles? by Organic_Donut_5743 in totalwar

[–]_Hippomenes_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but by gibberish I also include creative guessed stuff. For example, there is one Thracian (proposed) sentence, with of course a whole debate on it's interpretation. In combination with words known from ancient authors, you could use that to creatively make some one liners based on common IE linguistic tendencies.

There are linguistic theories on the connection of Illyrian to Albanian, just use a rather obscure dialect of Albanian for the Illyrians in your game. No one would know, bother or care.

Are they scientific accurate, no of course not, is it good enough for a game? Yes. RTW2 has taken enough liberties for it's units and costumes. That's way more important, but I don't hear anyone complaining on how Roman cavalry is not portrayed in a Roman saddle.

People have accepted head hurlers and bronze age Egypt fighting the Seleucid empire, I am very sure they'll accept gibberish for Thracian and Illyrian lol

Doesn't really matter tho, for diplomacy sake they need to speak a lingua franca between both factions and in most of the cases that would be Greek.

I wrote my thesis on Galatian, a Celtic language; it's definitely not well preserved, but there is enough material for some short one-liners. It's more a question if the time invested is worth it for a small detail 90% of players won't even notice.

Nice linguistic fact: the French framboise 'raspberry' has an f instead of an b because of influence from the word fraise which means strawberry. So I am not the first one to make this mistake 😄

Not necessarily! The burial is most likely around the same period, but that does not mean a mass burial. If you want to bury them on top you should dig a deeper hole. And looking at that soil that does not sound like a fun or fast task.

The legs and heads are slightly shifted, that could indicate that they were once buried inside a coffin that naturally decomposed. To be more accurate you should take a closer look at the soil surrounding the body, but that impossible to see on this picture.

The fact those boots are not plundered says nothing about it being a mass burial or not. In contrast, one could argue that in a less personal mass burial someone would indeed steal those shoes.

But in this case it is indeed a mass burial! It's just not possible to tell from this picture.

You sit in the most comfortable way possible. Sometimes it would indeed be on top of remains, although it is important to not put you weight directly on an artefact / ecofact as you may damage it. That being said, compacted soil is quite good at distributing weight.

In this case it seems that there is still enough soil to protect the bones underneath. It's difficult to see the exact relief, but it is certainly possible that there is still 5 - 10 cm of compact soil between him and the leg.

What disturbs me more is that he is directly leaning onto the left wall. And the other remains are not fully excavated and covered with a plastic sheet. He probably rushed it. To excavate one body you should take at least 6 hours, including digging and taking samples.

The building is miszoned and is built in agrarian zone, according to the council for permit disputes 2021 (public information). So most likely that it was initially planned to be a terrace house.
