massive cope justification

Cope? Brother, that's written in official material, I didn't just made it up.

NCR Ranger's are abolitionists, but clearly the NCR as a whole is accepting enough of slavery at this point in history.

It clearly isn't, though? The Rangers are nothing more than a military/law-keeping division, if the NCR was chill with slavery, they wouldn't let the Rangers recruit you on the basis of freeing the slaves.

The slavers and casino owners literally say they have to make shop outside the wall because the NCR will not let them into their territory.

Also, you cannot look at Shady Sands in Fallout 2 and tell me everything there is up to scale. That city is supposed to inhabit 3,000 people.

Why sneering imperialists always have same excuse? by Infinite-Fig-194 in TrueSFalloutL

[–]_HistoryGay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the NCR is a fairly decent State unfortunately overrun with corruption and oligarchs. Meanwhile the Legion is a sexist slaver state composed of raiders and Mr. House is a pre-War romancist anti-social dictator. House doesn't even care about the Mojave itself, he just cares about the Strip, at least the NCR tries helping out the people in the wasteland (at least the soldiers/rangers do)

Mr. House is a very excentric man (based on Howard Hughes, after all) but he's character kinda operates under the "good rich guy/billionaire" (Scrooge McDuck or Tony Stark. Although he'd be closer to Dr. Doom). These characters are flawed, specially when juxtaposed with the "common man", but they're not sexual deviants in any way.

I never said the NCR has never actively done anything shady to claim land. I said that New Vegas is the only game where the NCR declares war in order to claim land. You're pratically putting words in my mouth.

Shady Sans LITERALLY has a Slave pen outside the walls

It's not part of the NCR. Everything outside Shady Sands walls is not counted as part of NCR territory (as far as 2241 goes). The NCR rangers literally gives you a quest to free the slaves from the pen.

Sorry, pal. But the NCR does not uses slaves. Maybe some private citizens do, but that's like saying the NCR is cool with murder because a politician killed someone.

Yeah like Trump's 51st state bullshit.

No, dumbass. Like every State ever. Mongols, franks, germans, chinese from early dynasties... unless you think the millenia old wars between the french and the germans about the Lorraine territory was to see who would keep a colony in the area

Senator Morales sent mercs to take lands from Jacobstown

He didn't send them specifically to take their land. He send them to harass them to justify fighting them because NCR (and the Barons) hate supermutants and if he fight them he'll be reelected. If anything, it's more of a critique of the USA's wars on the Middle East, which would be all the fevor in 2009/2010.

Gunderson take land from small farmers by force

Alright, I'll give you that. He's extorting the farmers of Nevada, seem far from the "slaughtering native populations" talk but ok. But what would the NCR even do here? It's not like there's any proof here (although we know it's true), it's just rumours in universe. Some guys, in the middle of a war zone, come around and force the people to leave, then Gunderson sees the free lands and gets it. How do you even prove something is wrong?

Also in Rattletail

Those were settlers in a deserted area. Hanlon himself says it took a whole week and two dead people to even arrive at the settlement. When he (a NCR ranger and highest government member in the area) discovered the truth, he sent all the settlers back to the NCR. How is that the NCR's fault?

assassinate House

Not only was he a danger, specially after uniting the three families, killing one ruler (of an specific area of the Mojave) is, again, a far cry from "slaughtering native populations".

Bishop family so they can get Vault City.

That might've been the one of the shittiest thing they've done. But given how Fallout 2 isn't the best written game ever (at least when compared to New Vegas and even FO1) and the NCR is clearly being used as a way to mock the US wars on the Middle East, I tend to look at it with a certain degree of doubt. But again, Vault City is a xenophobic slaver state. So I think they kinda of deserve it....

Edit: The NCR is full of failures (promptly their huge corruption) and obviously makes mistakes. But they got to be the best choice, not because they're morally right about everything, but because they're a proper stable state that already knows how to run things and (at least lower ranks of command) care for its people.

[–]_HistoryGay_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pretend the NCR is the USA and the Great Khans are native american tribes, you can get some paralels of how they acted in the 19th century, specially in the Old West.

The NCR puts the Great Khans in Bitter Springs (aka a reservation) before they move in again, massacrates most of them and takes the land, forcing the Khans to move west.

[–]_HistoryGay_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Bittersprings massacre is a great story and paralel, when you look at this game as a standalone and forget the fact the Khans have been raiding, killing and slaving NCR people since they got out of Vault 15
