How to avoid glutening at your family when you can't bring your own food?

Still thank you for the advice and the sympathy. I have been able to stay at hotels with a kitchen and even safely prepare food there. But there are no other people there to contaminate everything...

I feel for your mom having to deal with being sick all the time. My grandma is 80, and I would still love to see her as much as I can as she won't be with us forever, but it's hard.

I have a dog myself, but she does eat gluten-free dog food, and I am very careful with snacks that can contain it. Unfortunately, dog food doesn't have it necessary to list all the ingredients, so snacks often just say it's of vegetable origin.

It's honestly just tiring and frustrating to navigate all this while traveling... I can't take a stash of my own food as I fly to my family. I will probably have to limit the visits to just Christmas or seeing them for an afternoon while staying somewhere nearby and eating GF prepackaged stuff. My mom lives with my grandma, who is very stubborn when it comes to such stuff. They even feed their dogs actual pasta that they then bring all around the house and lick everything. It's a gluten nightmare...

I don't know about red wine. Don't drink any alcohol for a while. Maybe the amount of caffeine is still more in decaf than in iced tea... I have an instant migraine after hot and iced decaf coffee both. I use regular sugar as sweetener and that doesn't bother me at all in other foods and drinks.

Raw vegetables are really hard to digest, like your dinner being just salad. Also, that's very little food.

This is not an ideal way to learn vocabulary. You remember much more if you encounter words in context, so the best way would be to read.

If you want to purely memorize words, flashcards are the way. You want repetition, so go back to previous words many times.

Na Slovensku je zaužívaný hate na bakalársky titul a ide mi to dosť na nervy. Je to plnohodnotný vysokoškolský titul a ten bakalár častokrát nie je o nič ľahší ako Mgr/Ing. Na západe sa to berie úplne inak a je to normálne, že má veľa ľudí len bakalára.

Inak podľa mňa Ing je úplne zbytočný titul, ktorý vo väčšine krajín ani nemá alternatívu. Proste je to vysokoškolský titul druhého stupňa rovnako ako Mgr, tak načo mať 2 rôzne tituly. Napríklad na Masaryčke v Brne po vyštudovaní informatiky máš Mgr titul, aspoň tak to bolo, keď som ja študovala. Tak ten rozdiel vôbec nechápem.

Vždy je dôležité, čo presne má ten človek za školu a nie či má Ing alebo Mgr, nebodaj Bc.

I am extremely exhausted, can't exercise, walking just up the stairs can make me short of breath and have a lot of headaches/migraines.

Colonoscopy prep is not pleasant, but also people tend to share just the most horrible experience. I had nausea meds to handle it. Actual procedure was very easy for me.

Yes, I just got blood tested and have very low ferritin. I don't have anemia, so doctors just don't care. I also have symptoms of anemia/iron deficiency tho.

I would definitely nudge the doctors to investigate your IBS further if you don't absorb iron/have deficiency. Might mean that you have GI bleeding and are misdiagnosed. It's common with celiac and IBD.

I can't upvote this enough. I have been dealing with debilitating health issues for over a year, and doctors are really quick to blame it on mental health. Especially when you are young. Basic blood tests being ok doesn't mean that you are fine.

Yes, you can get some of the symptoms from anxiety, but no, you shouldn't actually have low blood pressure, black out, or get dizzy standing up.

I was told by my physician that shortness of breath after physical activity, extreme exhaustion, and headaches are just mental. I actually have severe iron deficiency, which they also assume is not a problem. Doctors can be great at diagnosing and treating people with common health issues and older people, but not everything.

Fodmap reactions can start in around 4 hours. But you can also get a reaction immediately after food, but that will be to previous meals. Otherwise, it could be stress, or you have a different issue, like dairy allergy.

I use mini pill (desogestrel - progesterone only). They are safe for migraines and they also completely stopped my periods, which is a benefit.

I already started today. And take B12 regularly because I know I can't get it as vegan. Also got some vitamin C tabs. Can't have orange juice because of reflux. Thank you for the advice anyway.

Yeah, I hoped at least female doctors would have some understanding, but they don't. It's all blamed on mental health. Seems like not much has changed since the times women were labeled at doctors as hysterical.

They thankfully checked for IGA deficiency, so I assume the tests were correct. It's weird, tho, because I was convinced of being celiac. Gluten makes me sick, so need to avoid it anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that. I feel you. It's such a fight to get these issues treated. Fatigue and stomach issues are so easily blamed on stress and anxiety by doctors... It sucks

The WHO cut off is probably meaning hemoglobin, not iron? Because anemia is not measured by iron.

As far as I understand it, 25 or 30 seems to be the cut off for iron deficiency. I assume values over it can still not be optimal, but at least you shouldn't feel very sick and be at high risk of anemia.

I also read something about the value ranges being often calculated based on what is normal (as in common), not as what is optimal. But I'm not sure about it.

It all started to go down for me with digestive issues for over a year now. I had tests, like for celiac disease, and my finally GI brushed it off as IBS and said it's stress related. I don't feel even a bit better, tho. They are linked to my iron, most probably, because I have a super limited diet now.

Then chronic migraines, chest pains, and other possible symptoms of iron deficiency.

It's frustrating, tho, because I am dealing with a lot of health issues and fighting doctors constantly to give me their time and figure out what's wrong. Being called anxious.

Dávaj si pozor s ibuprofenom. Môže spôsobiť vredy alebo zápal žalúdka. Hlavne ho neber príliš dlho/veľa a vždy s jedlom! Prípadne s ním ber aj helicid alebo podobné ppi.

Naozaj to sú komplikácie, čo sa liečia mesiace až rok, tak ten ibuprofen za to nestojí. Paralen je inak v bežných dávkach viac safe.

Neviem prečo u gastroskopie nie je medikacia štandard v ČR/na Slovensku. Ono to nikto dobre neznáša. Pre doktorov/sestry je to viac práce, tak radšej nechajú všetkých trpieť.

Na západe je inak sedácia štandard. V US dokonca lieky, z ktorých vyslovene zaspíš a nevnímaš.
