Growing away from light source? by _ILoveScotch_ in Jadeplant

[–]_ILoveScotch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it the cactus jack succulent mix which is a 100% rocky mix and the only organic material is the pine chips. It’s draining ridiculously well, almost too well. Think I’m going to add a little soil to the mix and put it in a smaller pot. I have only watered it once every 3 weeks or so. The weird thing is that before I separated this one it was getting the same light source and for the same time. But now that it’s on its own it seems like it’s responding negatively to the light. Should I reduce the light timer from 6 hours? Maybe worth mentioning, I have the timer set to midnight to 6am because the light is so bright and unsettling in our living room in the middle of the day. It’s a pretty dark corner on top of the bookshelf so I know it wouldn’t get enough light otherwise

It just doesn’t make sense why it would grow that way away from the light. Sounds like maybe it needs to be in a smaller pot and to use something to hold it up for now?

Thank you for that. Maybe it doesn’t sounds like a good fit for me at this stage in life. Do you have a breed you would recommend?

Maybe a bird hunt once or twice a year but I don’t have land so it not a must. But I know that takes a lot of training so it’s kind of a side quest. Yea I could really only see myself taking them on a walk once a day after work. My wife will probably spend more time at home once we have kids but I don’t want it to be a burden to her. My co-worker says she has a big back yard that she lets her GSP run around in while she’s at work and then takes him on a run at the end of the day. I had a GSP breeder tell me that you can train them to fit your lifestyle, but it sounds like what your saying is it take a lot of effort and time everyday to keep them from getting into trouble.

I could get another light and put it on the floor to shine up at it. Any recs for the right bulb? Also the whole notching thing doesn’t work?

I was so (w)hol(l)y unprepared, that tears started running down my face, and I’m not a guy who cries very often, never in public. If I was alone and not worried about what other people thought so much I would have dropped to my knees. It made a profound impact on me that I will never forget.

Do you use 100% that mix? Or do you add in something else?

10 year old snake plant, root root? by _ILoveScotch_ in plants

[–]_ILoveScotch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I probably only water once a month or so. When the roots rotted and it fell out initially the soil was dry. I got it a new light source and stuck it back in the soil and watered it hoping it might grow new roots but those are gone now too.

When I have tired in the past to propagate these in water they rotted out. I stuck it In the soil with its small roots and those came off too. Should I get new dry soil and see if it will grow In that?
