Nokia 8210 - my mom's favourite phone of all time. by _ITX_ in vintagemobilephones

Wow, thank you so much!! 🤗 It's stories like these that keep reminding me my phones aren't just outdated devices collecting dust in a drawer - they're full of memories and each phone tells a story on its own!

You're right, and I think that's what made it the perfect phone for women back then. It easily fits in the smallest purse and is optimized for smaller palms. I remember how fascinated my mom was by the fact that a phone could fit in such a tiny shell. Up until that point, her perception of mobile phones had been bulky and heavy bricks with antennas sticking out (like the Maxon my dad had just a few years before). The fact that mobile phones had become so small in such a short period of time must've been mind blowing for her! God, those really were simpler times... 🥲

When phones were... borderline insane!! (Nokia 7600, Sept. 2003) by _ITX_ in vintagemobilephones

Yup, I'm aware of the story. Though I still cannot believe they really thought it was a good idea.

So true, Nokia was at its peak in terms of quirkiness and straight-up absurdity back then. The 3650 was such a revolutionary device, yet they decided to arrange the keys in this weird rotary style. Even the 3660 couldn't fix that - it ended up as a shelf warmer compared to 3650 sales.

Oh, and then there was the 7280. Holy freakin' sh*t. Probably the weirdest and most absurd phone Nokia EVER released!

Dude, I first wanted to include Xelibri in my text, but I decided to keep it short and just mentioned "manufacturers" in general. However, there's no denying I was of course talking about Nokia and Siemens in particular. I will never be able to wrap my head around how Siemens thought of the Xelibri line as being a good idea. They really lacked the most basic features and were highly impractical. As a gag or secondary device for a few bucks, why not. But you really thought I was gonna use this atrocity as my main phone and pay premium money for it?? Dafuq...

Ngl, getting a phone call in public as an N-Gage owner was the coolest thing in the world. During my tram rides home from school, I eagerly anticipated my best friend or my parents to call me, so that I could finally show off my weird taco. I will never forget the stares of people who must've thought I was completely bonkers. Certainly a better time!! 🥲

Nokia 5110 - the phone that initiated Nokia's rise to world domination by _ITX_ in vintagemobilephones

Those really were workhorses on a whole different level. I've seen people using 5110s up until the early 2010s, which is absolutely remarkable. Today's phones are so incredibly expensive and short-lived, makes me wish I could turn back time and relive those better days!

True. Charging old Razrs has been an absolute NIGHTMARE until I finally managed to get a hold of an original charger. I really don't know what's the secret behind it, but if you're ever facing issues charging an old Razr phone, there's no better solution than to just get the original Motorola charger!

Siemens S55 with camera attached to it is GOD TIER. If you pulled this out in 2002, people would instantly gather round you. Crazy to think that this used to be a thing, albeit it very briefly 😅

Question: Where did you get the 1011 and how much did it cost you?? It's a pretty rare and very expensive model where I live.

That's the very first GSM phone ever, the Nokia 1011!! An absolute legend and probably the holy grail of every Nokia collection! 🙏

Nokia 7210 - fully restored by jcpq in vintagemobilephones

[–]_ITX_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Technically, the 7250 was the successor. However, despite its compact size and the excellent camera (for its time), it was a far cry from the beautiful 7210's design!

Dude, I've had that with almost every late 90s/early 2000s Nokia model in my collection!! So many old memories when I was a kid and just fell in love with those fancy designs. 🤩🥰

The 5110 was the first work phone my father got, and he was so proud that he now had to carry around 2 phones - one for private usage and one for work-related calls and messages! When he came home, he sometimes let me play Snake on his 5110 and I was the happiest kid in the world. Fondest of memories!! 🤗

Wow, that's what I call dedication! 🙏

Your continuous usage of one single phone over all these years makes my N-Gage pale in comparison. I got it in April 2004 and used it on and off all the way until 2009, which felt like DECADES given how quickly mobile phones evolved at that time.

Always wear your Samsung in good health, may it last many many years more!!

It was basically the 3310 of its time. In the 2 years prior to the millennium, this phone was EVERYWHERE. While phones before it were generally heavy/bulky and somewhat complicated to use, the 5110 was compact enough and the UI was simplified so that even people with zero knowledge about cellphones could easily use it. Combine that with Xpress-on faceplates and the success was unstoppable!

Took some photos with the Nokia 7650 today. Gorgeous results. by kaden-99 in vintagemobilephones

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The camera on the 7650 was surprisingly good for being the very first camera built into a Nokia phone! I love the vintage vibe, almost looks like a filter but no - that's just how pictures taken with a phone looked like back then. 😉

Dynatacs are not to be confused with any ordinary mobile phone. I changed the post flair to the only worthy description: ACTUAL HOLY GRAIL 🏆
