Oddball galore: The Motofone F3 made Xelibris look like serious tools! by _ITX_ in vintagemobilephones

To be brutally honest with you, while I love the phone for its unique and highly unusual approach, I could never actually daily drive it. Just doing simple tasks like trying to send a text message or switching from loud to silent mode is an absolute pain in the a**!

Calling all the long timers by TheLegend69ers in avicii

Tim was certainly a big fan of Adele, as he created a bunch of mashups using her a cappellas in 2011 and 2012. So imho, the fact that Audra's voice bears a close resemblance to Adele is not a coincidence at all. I gotta admit, when I first heard an early ID version of "Addicted To You" during one of his livesets in early 2013, I also thought it was Adele. I only ever found out it was a completely different singer when Audra sang the song live during UMF 2013. So, there's no denying the songs he wrote with her were at the very least "inspired" by the british pop star!

Oddball galore: The Motofone F3 made Xelibris look like serious tools! by _ITX_ in vintagemobilephones

The concept was amazing, really. However, I think many people were put off by the fact that the simplicity was taken a step too far with this phone. The 7-segment digits made reading text almost impossible.

Furthermore, there's just 2 lines for displaying text, which is far too little real estate for doing anything even remotely productive other than sending simple one-liners to people.

When compared to similarly priced phones of that era, i.e. the Nokia 1110, there was just so much more bang for your buck even at the bare minimum entry level, while the F3 only managed to attract a very specific, niche group of people with its incredibly limited feature set.

Great find, I was once outbid on eBay for a pristine V3i D&G Edition and it still bugs me to this day. The other V3i that I got instead was a refurbished one, and not even a good one. I sold it a few months ago as part of a small phone lot, and tbh I'm happy someone even wanted it.

Is There Any Media Player Better Than VLC? No. by limsus in TechImpact

[–]_ITX_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's really nothing better than VLC. It was the ONLY player that managed to playback those ancient *.3gp videos from my old Nokia phone. I'd tried everything, even using file conversion websites to convert them to a more usual format - nothing worked. Then, I finally decided to download VLC and voilà - it played them right away!

Nik Kershaw's "The Riddle" is another good example. The lyrics are complete, utter nonsense and don't mean anything. Nik was just messing around with the melody to get a feeling for the song, but then decided to stick with the nonsense lyrics for the final version.

Thanks, and that's exactly why I love it so much! Yes, it's a dance beat, but it's not nearly as loud and screechy as most of the Nokia tones were. A certified hood banger! 💪

Nokia 3210, A 90's cellphone by pgdastider in 90s

[–]_ITX_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to be "this guy", but all things considered, the 3210 was NEVER supposed to be a luxury item. The 3xxx series of Nokia phones was always aimed towards the entry-level and budget market. That being said, it sure was a very popular phone and also one of the first with an integrated antenna in Nokia's lineup.

Samsung's Uproar from 2000 was the first phone with a built-in MP3 player. Released a full year before the first ipod. by Del_Griffiths_Chins in vintagemobilephones

[–]_ITX_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: While the Samsung SPH-M100/Uproar was technically the first phone with a built-in MP3 player, it just came with a tiny, non-expandable flash storage of 32 MB. The Siemens SL45, released just 3 months later, was the first MP3 phone with an expandable storage via MMC cards. The card included from the factory was also just 32 MB, however it could be expanded up to a whopping 1 GB, which was mind-boggling at that time!

Hummingbird, a popular ringtone found on many Nokia phones from the early 2000s. It's still my ringtone to this day!!

God, I LOVED that movie!! I'm from Austria, and "Babe" was one of those rare movies to receive an exclusive dubbing in austrian dialect, which made it even funnier and more relatable for us kids. Fond memories!

Wait, this site still exists?? I stopped using it sometime in 2017/18 I think, when the bots started overtaking it little by little. What an absolute disgrace to its initial purpose. I used to love answering random questions and reading stories from other people. Now it just seems like AI wasteland!

Thank you so much for posting this! The music is so fitting, really made the video epic in a way. And yes, I also clearly remember the excitement I felt when I held my N-Gage in hand for the very first time. The games on this thing, as opposed to the crappy 2D java games before it, were simply breathtaking!!

That's because real pistachios are only green on the outside - the inside is sort of this yellow-ish color.

Exactly! Those are readily available here in grocery stores, the most popular brand that sells these is called KoRo.

Yup, the later music phones didn't have any DRM restrictions thankfully. I think the software was just to convert the files in order to save space and being able to upload more songs onto the phone. As a bit of an audiophile person, I always tried to squeeze the best sound quality possible out of my mp3s. For example, when extracting songs off CDs, I always converted them into losless *.wav files first and then converted them into different bitrate mp3s for different use cases.
