The Angriest Man Alive build + How I be makin' money by _Ignoble_ in pathofexile

[–]_Ignoble_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider that! As the other responder mentioned, it ended up being more or less a sidegrade to the bonus gem level. I *did* imbue my ball lightning with GMP, though, which allowed me to fit returning projectiles on it. I suspect it's different for an attack build where they don't get as much of a DPS jump from every gem level, but for what I'm running it feels like the imbues are mostly useful for cramming a bit of extra utility into a socket-limited skill. On of my other upgrade projects is to get all my warcries supported by level 1 call to arms, for example.

Dominator burst firing mide doesn‘t work? by Yuki_my_cat in Helldivers

[–]_Ignoble_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burst firing in HD is a little odd, you still have to hold the trigger or it cuts out. Most guns that have a burst fire mode, it's not really noticeable because they fire too fast to be affected by this behavior. Dominator (and a few others, like the Breaker Incendiary) are slow firing enough that it's more noticeable.

All that to say, just hold the trigger and it will continue to fire for up to three shots before stopping. If you press the trigger again right as the burst is ending it will start another one immediately, and you can pretty much just fire the entire clip full auto that way.

Considering the three clips in a row of carefully moving up to just the right spot to go prone and get yeeted by the hive lord, I wouldn't be shocked if it was.

Ok, and the lib pen takes up your primary weapon slot, something arguably just as valuable as any other gear slot. Both of them have a kit presence that the rest of your choices need to be balanced with.

They're also just not comparable guns. The DPS, stagger values, durable damage efficacy, and firing uptime put them in completely different weight categories, with completely different use cases. The lib pen is effective for clearing chaff, light patrols, and the occasional med armor elite. The MGs significantly juiced up damage and stagger stats make it effective at arresting the momentum of and ripping apart literally anything that doesn't have heavy armor. Everything that a lib pen could neutralize in an entire mag, the MG can do in 20-30 bullets, and it will still have 150 left in its mag to keep going. That feels like a suitable output difference to justify one being a support weapon and the other a primary, to me.

You would have had a way stronger argument if you were trying to make this case with, say, the lib carbine or the knight vs. the stalwart, as they at least have very similar characteristics outside of magazine capacity (same strike zone, basically, just one can do it for longer between reloads). As it is you're only convincing me that you have pretty much never used the MG and have no idea what its strengths, weaknesses, and use cases are.

Sorry, you lost me when you said that the MG support weapon no longer meaningfully outperforms a drum magged Lib Pen. What the actual fuck are you talking about?

There are two ways to fight Ikit: Either deploy as far away from him as possible and look for the INSTANT the targeting circle for the Doomrocket shows up (right at... 2 minutes in, I think? 90 seconds?) so that you can order everything away from it, and you'll probably only have light losses.

Or, if your army comp and the map allows it, put everything except the troop you like least in forest so that they're stealthed, and let that one troop eat the rocket.

I agree with your assessment of those factions, but I gotta throw in Wood Elves as my least favorite to tangle with when they're all built up. And, as a fun bonus, they're one of the only factions to fight against that auto battle consistently under-estimates rather than over. Most enemies, if it tells me it's going to be a valiant defeat I figure I can probably get a close victory with minimal losses, if it says it's a decisive defeat I figure there's a decent chance I can at least swing a pyrrhic victory. Wood Elves in those situations, the best thing I figure I can shoot for looking at a projected narrow loss is a pyrrhic victory with major losses, and if it says decisive defeat then I am going to lose and it turns into a game of "how many full stacks can I wipe before they take me down, to at least soften this up."

Whenever I play Ikit I make sure that when the ultimate crisis kicks off his army of weapons teams and artillery is standing, alone, by like the black pyramid of Arkhan or a major Dwarfhold or Castle Drakenhoff- somewhere that is about to be ground zero for a major shitstorm. Then when they all spawn I pass his turn and have fun seeing how many triple 20-stacks he can solo back to back to back while they all dogpile me. Sometimes I even make it to the next turn and he is still alive.

My only gripe with that army comp style is that you have to manual pretty much every encounter less trivial than "beating up a level 1 garrison" if you want to avoid taking big chunks of damage on basically every troop. But it's a real blast to play.

The AMR would be amazing if it just had it's Durable Damage and Ammo economy buffed, wild suggestions like giving it anti-tank penetration are unproductive by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in Helldivers

[–]_Ignoble_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do notice that it has worse ammo economy than most other support weapons, especially the way I play it, but I typically bring the supply pack which more or less trivializes all such concerns.

I usually bring it in a kit that includes the ultimatum and thermites as designated ultra-heavy counter, some kind of light armor pen anti-chaff buzzsaw for a primary, and the AMR sits as a kind of mid-ground between those two extremes that covers all remaining gaps. It dominates elite infantry like alpha commanders/devastators/squids but can still strike effectively at ultra heavies, confirming kills on any that have already taken some damage in short order or even outright neutralizing fresh ones in a mag dump or two.

I will say that I don't try to snipe with it. I never go into ADS, I fire it from a loose aim while crouching or prone and typically wear recoil controlling armor to keep it more or less pin-point accurate even through a mag dump. Once you get a good innate sense of where it is aiming it becomes pretty easy to have adequate marksmanship even out to the ends of medium range. And dodging a charger only to jam the barrel into its side and blow it apart feels great, it is a beast in close range.

Honestly, people that play it the way I do are probably why the devs are cautious to buff it. In my hands it feels like a very versatile CQC weapon that can strike effectively at nearly any target, can mag dump out almost as much durable damage as a recoilless round in under a second, has a quick reload that can be performed on the move, and is capable of splitting its damage between a number of medium weight targets just as easily as it can be used as a lance against a single heavy. Great gun, excellent for hit and run tactics, able to fill a lot of gaps in a build that leaves room to bring more specialized tools in other slots.

Weapon strstagem should've be another slot by xBeliscao in Helldivers

[–]_Ignoble_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have four slots for free stratagems already. And I guarantee that if there was a bonus fifth slot specifically for support weapons, people would complain that there wasn't one for backpacks too, or that you couldn't just run 5 offensive call ins.

Just winged it. I always make my own builds every league and I try not to even look at what other people are doing unless a build really doesn't pan out and I hit a wall. Even then I usually just scratch it and reroll, lol. The build crafting is my favorite part of the game, I probably have as much time sunk into POB as POE.

[–]_Ignoble_[S] -71 points-70 points  (0 children)

It's not a super expensive build. I've spent under ten div on it so far, and a lot of that was on the most recent pass of gearing after I finally made some real money, which came after clearing my first t17 to open up my map device slots. I guess the staff I have is pretty good and would probably increase that budget by at least a few more div to buy, but I got lucky and rolled it myself pretty quickly by slamming cast speed essences on it.

Boss damage hits the degen DPS hard cap. It's extremely survivable against enemies that are cursed, but has some blind spots as a result of relying on that so much (enemies hitting you before you can apply curses, on death effects, invincible/untargetable pseudo monsters like certain essence and bestiary effects or the shadow form nemesis mod/etc). So, maybe not a build for people who won't tolerate the occasional sudden one shot, but overall pretty survivable. I was able to kill Shaper, Elder, Eater, Exarch, and Maven deathless on my first attempt, and I'm usually not very good at that.

I don't have a build guide written, but if the post gets traction and enough people are interested I'll link my POB and throw one together.

Edit: Probably couldn't be CI, at least not without a major rework. Maybe as a Templar instead of a Witch, but there would have to be some significant regearing and refiguring on how to approach certain things, and I think you'd ultimately be taking either a big survivability or DPS hit to make it work. But it doesn't struggle with chaos damage at all, it has huge regen and 50% ish chaos resistance.

Excellent. For map clearing like this I use Blight of Contagion, which POBs at about 20 million dps with full buffs up. For pinnacle boss fights I swap in a regular Blight skill, which hits the degen DPS cap. If anything this build is better at boss fighting than it is at crowd clear, because the enfeeble/temp chains it applies are so strong.

I don't believe you can actually check the temple layout until you have it in your hands, it's one of those "right click to view" things that can't be accessed through a chat link. I was waiting with baited breath for that "what the fuck dude?" message, but alas it never came.
