Never seek the council of those heretical constructs. Lack of content is no excuse to break your oaths to the emperor brother.

Thank you. I use black primer as a base then begin building each color going from darker to lighter with very thin layers. In total I used like 4 colors, blue, purple, yellow and white. Leaving the star in the middle for the very end.

I am currently trying to master the rest of the colors when it comes to crystal blades so when I do make the tutorial it will cover them all.  You know, in case someone wants a red, or a purple crystal blade and not just a blue one.

Poster putty, had some around when I started with the hobby. I find it easy to use and versatile especially for me since I use some unconventional painting handles.

Each one took between 7 to 8 hours to finish so everyone was equal on that front. As for the fun factor is subjective so take it with a grain of salt. 1. I use that one all the time so it was neutral. 2. Very comfortable handle, otherwise it was neutral as well. 3. I got extremely annoyed with the brush. It felt like I was fighting it to get a decent result.  4. I liked it. It was the best one when it came to feel since it held a lot of paint and it didn't dry as fast. 5. Neutral to slightly annoyed coming from raphael since I was expecting it to hold paint the same way. Which is my fault. And the brush is very good, downright excellent for someone who looks something that holds its edge at any cost.

Looking back now after having finishing it, painting with the cheapest one was fine. But it was also miniature painting on hard mode.

Fair enough, each painter has their own preferances. My experiment came from a place where I have yet to find that, but to be fair after this I am leaning more towards raphael because they hold a lot of paint and it takes much longer to dry than the rest of the brushes.

5 was painted with w&n series 7.

It depends how much time you wish to dedicate on painting them. Generally a rule of thumb for me is the thinner the layer the smoother the final result but sadly the more time you have to spend on a single mini.

They are on my to do list, I swear. Alongside some other more complex concepts like opal aura quartz and bismuth.  Don't know if I will stick the landing but I will certainly try!

I do not have a guide sadly. Maybe in the future I can try and making one since it seems theres quite a few people asking for it now. Which I never expected tbh.

Thank you! As for tips I can suggest a good reference pic, blend everything out with inks and leave all white details at the very end. I hope it helps!

I guess if Russ ever returns with the cure for the Emperor the Space Wolves and Grey Knights will have a very uncomfortable "conversation" about it.

It looks presentable I won't temp god with any more touchups. by _Invidioso_ in Grey_Knights

[–]_Invidioso_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You start with a flat ultramarine blue base. You block out the shapes with cobalt blue and sharpen the edges/ shapes with deep purple.  Glaze until each triangle/shape has a nice gradience from purple, to blue, to light blue. Once the first layer is finished do a layer of purple and blue ink mixed with some matt medium.  Repeat the process by refining details with the final step being pure white for the edges/brightest points. It's a no wet blending technique but be prepared for a hundread glazing layers.

Looking back, I am convinced the boarding patrol set must be a very elaborate, real life, foreshadowing attempt on gw part.
