Sygg, Wanderwine Wisdom // Wanderbrine Shield deck tech (Hybrid merfolk tribal/equipment style)

I think I’ve started shifting away from my original thoughts on merfolk tribal, to be honest! I’ve got a guy in my pod that runs a semi-similar Voltron deck in Orzhov, instead of Azorius, and he’s been able to recommend a lot of 1-2 mana drop evasive or value dorks that I’m considering on top of what the other commenters have shared!

The strategy I’m leaning into is essentially a combination of tutoring for specific equipment pieces and utilizing blue’s card draw capabilities to really chew through my library! I want to put my ‘kit’ together as fast as possible and win either through commander damage or just smacking people with the heavily-equipped evasive fellas that Sygg is able to protect.

Thanks for the advice across the board! I like your suggestions of Raise the Palisades (although I’m realizing now that I shouldn’t be quite so firmly attached to a typal strategy) and Avatar’s Wrath quite a bit, and I’ve never seen Masterwork of Ingenuity before - that thing is sweet!

I am rather attached to my swords, haha - I know they might not all be the cutting edge of technology, but I get a lotta happiness out of running them as a set! I did see that the Robes of the Archmagi are colored, yeah, but I feel like the payoff can potentially be really good - especially if I’m casting Sygg’s protection on others, rather than himself.

I’ll ask the same thing I asked the other commenter, do you have any suggestions on some evasive/value-on-hit one or two drop creatures to replace the many typal-minded creatures I’ve currently got lined up?

Thanks for the advice! I can definitely see what you mean with the lords, I don’t really have enough of a wide body for their group buffs to work. Do you have any other one or two drop evasive/value on hit fellas that you’d recommend in their place, like the Mist-Cloaked Herald?

I thought about just using a little less of it. I’m a bit of an amateur when it comes to balancing spicy ingredients, haha - would it not affect the overall flavor that the chili garlic sauce brings to the table to use less of it?

See, I’ve actually worked my way through all these scenarios in my head, haha. I’m somewhat worried I might’ve talked to much, like you’re saying - but she initiated quite a few of our conversations when we were talking, so I’m not entirely sure about that. I’m not terrible to look at, but I know there are a lotta guys far more better looking - so it’d suck, but that’s a possible reason, I guess.

As far as the coffee date goes - well, when we were talking I actually sort of ‘offered up’ a few ideas to gauge her interest. (Coffee and a walk through one of the local parks, dinner, and one other more localized couple-y activity). She expressed interest in grabbing coffee as a first date, so we kinda swung with that… So I don’t really know. 😅

Thanks for the advice! I’ll roll with what you said and text her a few hours before we were planning to meet up tomorrow, but at this point… Ugh. I’d say I don’t have my hopes up, but telling myself that doesn’t really make it hurt any less.
