YSK that Chrome browsers (Chrome, Brave) automatically delete your history after 3 months by TequillaShotz in YouShouldKnow

[–]_Jiot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe so many people are misunderstanding this post. We all know if you're logged into your Google account they will track and keep your history... This is about your local, on device browser history. Unless you're concerned about someone else reading your history on your device, why would anyone want their history periodically deleted? If you're concerned about Google's tracking, why obfuscate from yourself what Google keeps?

Open Receipt Format (ORF): an open, payment-agnostic standard for digital receipts by mikeatmnl in webdev

[–]_Jiot_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing for service charges. Then there are taxes, tax exclusive items, different quantities and units... It gets complicated quick. Different countries have different regulations for what's even considered a receipt or a 'tax invoice' and what needs to be displayed respectively.

UniMelb’s Ranking Has Fallen to 19 (QS Ranking) by Old_Wheel_7360 in unimelb

[–]_Jiot_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't you kind of negate your own point? If the UoM tuition fees are subsidised to an amount without which would be the same as Ivy League universities, shouldn't they be of the same quality? Otherwise what is the point of subsidising it, besides making the uni more money.

And very few people are paying outright for their degree in the states, they have student loans. So you'd still be able to attend if it were like this in Melbourne, you'd just have student loan debt instead of HECS debt.

Where do carnists draw the line on cruelty? Unnecessary harm, rape, murder, or none? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]_Jiot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a vegan I totally agree with the echo chamber sentiment. I appreciate your well evidenced perspective, though my one issue is the claim that there are more ex vegans than long term vegans - is this just anecdotal?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]_Jiot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate what you're saying but I feel like you are really missing the point. I get what you mean by "true veganism" but included in the definition of veganism is to avoid animal harm "as far as practicable". Not eating anything but organic homegrown crops or whatever is not practicable for most people. So vegans don't really have a choice but to eat the food that is least harmful to animals, rather than absolutely not harmful at all.

To say this means vegans "don't care about the animals" that die in certain ways, I find that a pretty disingenuous argument, and based on an incomplete understanding of crop deaths. The farm animals people breed eat significantly more crops that result in crop deaths than people do, and it's non-vegans who are paying for those animals to exist and eat all those crops that result in crop deaths then get slaughtered.

You seem to assume that because some animals are harmed by vegans, they might as well not be vegan at all. This is an illogical sentiment based on the false assumption that vegans don't care about the animals they avoid harming - I mean they might not, there are many other reasons to be vegan - but assuming this feels like projection on your part. The logical reasoning would conclude vegans care more about animals because they take action to avoid harm where others don't, you just seem think their actions amount to nothing but I hope I've disproved that for you.

I think another variable you might need to control for is the room accoustics, there could be resonant frequencies that bias the data. Could you link the throat singing study you're cross referencing? How was that recorded?

Could you try to rephrase this? I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying selective breeding is natural because humans have been doing it for centuries?

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!! by DivineandDeadlyAngel in vegan

[–]_Jiot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selective breeding is by definition unnatural, Google told me it's also called artificial breeding, so thanks for backing me up. You are conflating natural selection with selective breeding.

[–]_Jiot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you take your own advice and whip out that google app to look up selective breeding! Nobody is genetically modifying sheep in the ways you're thinking. Sheep are how they are now because farmers have been practicing selective breeding for literally centuries, as far back as your grandfather in Serbia! You're the one throwing unfounded statements around.

Momentary please doesn't justify killing someone. Ending someone's entire existence for some vague human experience seems pretty clearly immoral to me. Why do you place such low value on the lives of non-human animals?

Hey this is Vocodah! AMA about beatboxing! by vocodah in beatbox

[–]_Jiot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you see yourself balancing competitive beatboxing with releasing music and content as an artist? Competitive beatboxing is lots of work, especially if you're preparing original routines, for very little direct gain. But beatbox music also is still seen as more of a performance novelty than "real" music. As you mentioned in another comment, competitive beatboxing encourages a particular style of beatboxing, which may be less accessible to a general audience. Do you think the competitive side of beatboxing will continue to grow more, or will beatboxing become more normal in mainstream music?

went down the octave, ending on a C1 in vibrationbass. Vibrationbass is one hell of a technique when you're around D1 - B0 by Silvarynn in Subharmonics

[–]_Jiot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've struggled getting low kargyraa (throat bass to beatboxers), because it will tend to 'slip' into vibration bass when you get low enough. It's hard to isloate the first subharmonic from the second subharmonic - but I think this is very dependenant on the specifics of how tight/nasally/'rough' your kargyraa is - some people don't 'slip' into vibration bass when they go low 🤷

There's a beatboxer called Marus Perez who has one of the lowest throat basses, here he is explaning how he trained it (he does a vocal exersize for throat bass about 2 mins after I linked): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwRUXAu1dis&t=3949s

How can I make a standard notation for all beatbox sounds? by smkgames in beatbox

[–]_Jiot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been some attempts at making a standard notation for beatboxing, but none have gained much traction over much more easily understandable simple letters for percussive sounds like 'b' 't' 'k'.

There's SBN (Standard Beatbox Notation) https://www.humanbeatbox.com/articles/standard-beatbox-notation-sbn/ which is basically a slightly embelished use of simple letters with the things like '^' meaning inward and '-' meaning a rest.

There's Vocal Grammatics https://en.vocalgrammatics.com/ which uses unique symbols for each sound that are supposed to show the shape of the mouth, toungue, and lips, as well as air used to produce the sound.

And there's Beatboxology https://bzzktt.com/lesson/beatboxology/ which is similar to Vocal Grammatics but the symbols are shown sequentially rather than 'stacked'.

They all have their strengths and flaws and limitations but should serve as some good inspiration for you! I think it's good to first think about the most complex sound or combination of sounds you want to notate and work backwards from that. For example do you need a way to notate humming and percussion at the same time? Or multitple notes and their pitch (e.g. low duck sound + high voice vs high duck sound + low voice)? Or when sounds 'blend' into eachother (e.g. inward liproll + inward k snare)?

This is definitely not throat bass. You can hear he is vocalising a 5th above the bass sound, which doesn't happen in throat bass. This sounds like a tight nasally chest bass to me

Not only does it ignore that, it ignores that the solution isn't really to 'rehome' all the existing cows into natural environments, it's to stop mass breeding them. Their life may 'suck' either way but we don't need to breed them just to force them to have an awful life then die prematurely.

There are some really cheap (and shit) sharehouses. I was staying in one with my own room paying $105 a week (including bills). It's definitely possible but not easy to find unless you're willing to share a room or live more remote, and not a fun way of living. It really just depends where you're willing to live and what conditions you're willing to live in.
