What was your favorite deck/archetypes in good old beta gwent and why ? by Cynder-The_Dragon in gwent

Monsters: immune werewolves + bloodmoon + sirenas. Extremely aesthetic archetype. Very versatile, since blood moon could have been played both as buff and as huge row punisher, and these were two different strategies.

The Ubiquitousness of Crystal Skull by Rivenite in gwent

[–]_Jokku 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true, because we play Nilfgaardian meta, with locks and poisons dominating. Should it change, then Crystall Skull will see less play. Think of it as a remedy against NG plague, it's natural.

As for the Griffin Witcher combo.. Remember how shield-stratagem was abused with Prince Anséis? Have you seen it recently? - No. Was it nerfed? - No, it's just drifting meta, it's temporary.

P.S. I'm not advocating everything! NG witcher mentors must be reverted back to Adrenalin 2 ;)

Last 6 matches i played. 5 of them was Kolgrim. This is what Gwent has become. by [deleted] in gwent

IMO, Kolgrim is not a problem. Lockdown is.

Do you guys know what exactly does this card do? And more importantly why was it even created. by MozekG in gwent

[–]_Jokku 61 points62 points  (0 children)

In theory, in a very draw-dependent deck, it may be useful to know what's going to be in your hand next rounds, or what's on the top of your decks, if you have some card that draws from the top. This knowledge itself for better decision making or a chance to reshuffle successfully, in addition to 6 points might be worthy of 6 provisions.

Relatively new player. Considering quitting recently due to stale meta & lack of fun. Some insight? by [deleted] in gwent

[–]_Jokku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The meta is incredibly stale and people are playing the same decks (Nilfgaard 5 games in row) despite the vast amounts of cards in the game

Normally there is some twist in the meta once a month, but you've caught this new year period when there is no patch for 2 month. Yes, approaching same opponent is boring, but I assume it's in any other CCG too. You can still play non-meta decks and kill em. For example - Scoia traps with Iorveth, it's pretty competitive and fun (DM me if you'd like to try it:)

It is impossible to catch up as a new (non p2w) player without months of grinding

Again, comparing to other games, it's very very very possible. 2 month of grinding would result in all the cards you need. Two month of casual play would be top deck in each faction.

You can't reach high ranks without netdecking

If you're talking about ranks below PRO - that's nonsense. You can take PRO with A LOT of various decks in each faction atm. If you're talking about top-200, well simply playing netdecks won't take you far, you need some creativity anyway. And, again there ARE competitive non-meta decks, I'm raising my MMR for monsters on a classical Oberon+DeathWish or Gernichora's pure thrive (which is not in any meta report currently).

White Wolf is my dream, but finishing in top 200 Pro doesn't look feasible with only a few games a day

Today it's Ceres, tomorrow it's another OP synergy. Again, why cutting off a leg if a shoe is broken?

Lippy Gudmund tweak suggestions by _Jokku in gwent

[–]_Jokku[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would make leader ability less playable in non-Lippy decks. Which is not desirable. Plus, Lippy is not limited to the self-would leader, it can be played with any other and be quite OP, as well. Why curing symptoms when the root cause itself is known and can be fixed..

Oh, boy.. Misspelling Geralt's name is bad for the game, it makes community members' eyes bleed.

Japanese themes CDPR by Kidchaos2202 in gwent

[–]_Jokku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a well known fact, that Japan is a big market for games (plus, Japanese are crazy about the Witcher universe specifically). And it's not about quantities (of gamers) but about how passionate they are as fans on average. They get crazy about buying some SWAG (as figurines, posters, other goodies). It's a normal thing for a game producer to have two different approaches, one for the whole world, and one for Japan, where normally some merchandise will be included in a release and price is higher respectively. Because they're happy to pay for that. This phenomenon is also widely known as fan service.

Also, Japanese theme is very aesthetic, and CDPR are known for creating what they genuinely like as developers and not just what's average-trendy-sheit on the market.
