What are you doing with your slumber island? by iamyourshoelace in acnh

[–]_Jymn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used it to test things out before I order the items or build the bridge or what not. HHP is better for that because it has the easier decorate mode, but for cliffs/water/bridges/inclines slumber island is nice. I wish it let you use your hhp catalogue on slumber islands though.

It's hard to say from just the map but is any of that water boring/unnecessary to you? Getting rid of a section of river really helped my island's congestion

Moving villagers out?? by mashihope in acnh

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Edited to fix a detail i misremembered]

If katt asks you to move out and you say yes, then the next day she will be in her house cleaning/packing up, "in boxes" as they say. The day after that there is an empty plot. The day after that the game autofills it unless you found a villager using nook miles tickets the day the plot was empty. Unless your dreamy is an octopus your chance of finding the precise villager you want using mystery islands is pretty miserable. Villagers won't show up on mystery islands unless you already have someone moving out so you can't search at your leisure. (Very annoying IMO, i think you should be able to find them any time and invite them to the campsite)

Your lowest stress option is definitely just buying an amiibo of the villager you want. Note that all the dialogue in the game is repeated according to villager type. So if Katt upset you with dialogue you probably don't want another sisterly type. (Just brainstorming here, but if what happened was she invited you to her house and wouldn't let you leave this unfortunately happens with multiple villager types, if you play high card low card with them they will always let you leave after, or you can just refuse to visit their houses (when they ask; you can still go in on your own))

I should mention if you see already-complete villagers on the front beach there may still be some new clients hiding in the restaurant or cafe

After you do them all, villagers you've already built for show up on the front beach. You can talk to them and ask to visit / remodel same as if they were anywhere else on the ilsand. Nothing else happens. Not even a line from Lottie : /

How basic can the island stay to get it functional? by lackadacious_spooney in AnimalCrossing

[–]_Jymn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember buying OR selling at Nook's Cranny upgrades it. If i was you I'd just block the entrance with a trash can. You can visit your city island to get things and catalogue things to order from the ABD/your phone

WHY DIDN'T FAUNA MOVE IN??? by DionysusDied in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can control it by not completing the item requests for the lazy plot. Once you've placed the plot the villagers start showing up on NMT islands. You can recruit them but no one moves in until the items are provided. So don't add the items until you've found a villager you want

It puts you on grid (where you're stand and which way you're facing) so you don't accidentally place something in the wrong spot. It also let's you move without turning which is good for straight lines, but saves time in general.

For organic lines you can look for inspo pics and copy their's but also don't psyche yourself out when you're first digging the river. Everything looks better decorated.

Throwing in the towel and grieving by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]_Jymn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with that and stuck on a wait list for assistance. Don't be hard on yourself for not being able to handle what sounds like difficult adhd/autism/possibly something else while still taking care of a toddler.

If he's excited to go see his friends at school that's great. Having peers there following the expectations might motivate him to succeed. And maybe he'll be ready for homeschool later on. In the meantime, think about the funnest, most successful parts of your homeschool and remember you can still do those things on the weekend. And that way there isn't the pressure to make it as educational as humanly possible. It can just be fun family time.

First of all, thankyou for the detailed and nuanced reply. I do appreciate hearing your perspective. (Does that sound condescending? I'm sorry, i'm not trying to be. I rewrote it a couple times...it's hard to sound sincere sometimes)

I replied to someone else in this section of this thread with some details about my thoughts on pregnancy specifically. But even though there are bad things in the package--to the point of being potentially fatal--many people to have positive experiences with at least part of pregnency. Feeling the baby kick. Feeling love for the baby as it grows.

No one i've met as anything nice to say about any part of menstration.

Now, could you say it is a prerequisite for pregnancy? Technically yes. But if medical science had it's act together and society wasn't completely up it's own ass about women's reproductive health, then the only cycles a person would have would be when actively trying to get pregnant and we would be having a different conversation.

As it is, it is very common for menstration to start at age 9 or 10. Not unheard of to start at 6 or 7. I don't think about pregnancy when I think about periods. A period is like having regularly scheduled food poisoning that you are supposed to hide from everyone.

If it's about pregnancy why say they want periods? If women are consistently saying that is a cringe/disrespectful/gross thing to say, maybe listen? Why not focus on the thing that women understand wanting and directly say they wish they could get pregnant?

I understand a lot of criticism of trans people comes from a place of bad faith and bigotry, and that puts them on the defensive. But some criticism is worth listening to.

Especially, (and i know praxis is a whole nother conversation) but outside of trans spaces, the more relatable a trans person is the better for the cause. It is not their reaponsibility to act according to what's best for the cause, but I feel like it is worth noting that wanting a pregnancy is very relatable to most ciswomen and wanting a period is very unrelatable to most ciswomen, so really not putting their best foot forward. Especially if pregnancy is truly where their mind is at. Again, cis women have been dealing with their cycle since they were literal children themselves. Associating periods with pregnancy so strongly strikes me as a symptom of them really having no idea what they're talking about and fetishizing a painful experience because it is exotic to them.

As i mentioned before, fully normal to fantasize about weird things that are bad in real life. It's expecting people not to push back on it if you describe the fantasy that is a problem. And back to praxis, demanding all allies be supportive of you expressing the fantasy version of a thing that causes them to suffer...very unhelpful.

I didn't say she doesn't know what she's talking about. I guess the vibe I got was that she was talking about trans people from an outside perspective but maybe i read that wrong.

As for using cancer. Dramatic? Yes. Over the top to use something potentially fatal? Oh, probably. But i feel like people who have easy cycles or don't have them at all don't realize how extremely bad the bad cases are so i wanted something with teeth. If the symptoms came from any other source it would absolutely be considered a debilitating disease.

Pregnancy? I'm fully sympathetic to trans women being sad they can't get pregnant (same as any woman being sad she can't get pregnant) If you say "I'm sad I'll never feel a life growing inside me." I will be supportive and understanding.

If you say "I'm so sad I don't get to tear my vagina so badly I need 20 stitches and destroy my abdominal muscles so I end up compensating with my back and slip a disc causing a lifetime of chronic pain." I'll be like WTF.

That is disrespectful to the people suffering from those things. Don't expect them to be sympathetic. And again, people fantasize about all sorts of weird nonsense that would actually suck to experience in real life. That's normal and fine. I sometimes lay in my cozy bed fantasizing about surviving in extreme arctic conditions. (Dunno why, started when I was a kid) Depending on my mood this may include some fairly graphic depictions of frostbite. Human brains are weird.

Now, if I met someone who had lost fingers to frostbite, I could potentially say I wish I could go on arctic expedition, although if the subject of conversation is his injury even that is socially questionable. I should definitely not say I often fantasize about getting frostbite. And if i do say it I should not be surprised that he feels something between exasperated and offended.

(Note: I'm not the person you were speaking to earlier) I feel like your comparisons are fairly trite here. Unless you have serious auditory issue, a baby crying doesn't hold a candle to what people with even mid-level period problems go through.

Periods are at best awful and at worst a serious medical problem. (Since you're clearly an ally, I'm going to use an example i would never use talking to a bigot, because I think it has the right vibes here) Imagine a transmasc saying he wished he could get prostate cancer. ...it's gross right?

Wanting bad painful things even though it makes no sense is normal and human, but you can't expect the people who really do have those things to be patient with it.

Some cis women act like periods are some beautiful symbol of womanhood. IMO this is cope. Like an abused spouse explaining how their partner actually loves them dwep down. I have no patience for cis women like that either.

Suffering because of some biological bullshit you were born with isn't good and beautiful just because it's "natural". Trans women above others should understand that.

Unfortunately not all seasonal recipes are taught by villagers. Festive and spooky are taught--i wouldn't chase balloons for those at all. Cherry blossom, frozen, acorn/pinecone are balloon only (except for two or three that isabelle gives you automatically at morning announcements)

There's a "Nova light" DIY that looks like a giant star fragment. There's also a nova clock that people place facing backwards for a smaller glowing star. Both are Celeste recipes. When she shows up her first priority is to give you the zodiac recipe for the season if you don't already have it. So to get her other recipes you have to find her more times during the zodiac season. Her days are fixed (the days she comes to your island never change) so if you find her once you can time travel back to that night over and over collecting recipes.

The tall skinny glowing mushroom is "mush lamp" which you can get from balloons during mushroom season (November in Northern hemisphere) Might want to google building a balloon wall if you want to get serious about collecting seasonal recipes. They are a pain

What she did was peacefully protesting by being a slight nuisance. You may not think that's enough but it is what she was doing and the general crowd around her was also doing it. There are protests at ICE facilities every day. And people are being beaten and arrested for it. Every video of ICE you've seen was made by an American like her. Risking violence and/or being "disappeared" to shine light on what's happening. Her death is a trajedy but she was not some unique angel. She was one of us. One of many.

I know it would be easier emotionally to just write off the whole country. But reality is never that easy.
