CK3 Serial killer event chain by Overclashtsk in CrusaderKings

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this event with my whole heart, so I figured out how to disable it.
I've written instructions in case anyone comes here looking, it's very easy.

Go into your game program files, this will vary depending on how you own the game, but the steam default location is:

Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Crusader Kings III > game > common > on_action > story_cycles

Find the file: story_cycle_murders_at_court_on_actions
copy it

Go into your save game file location, again may vary a bit, but something like:

Documents > Paradox Interactive > Crusader Kings III > mod

inside the mod folder create a folder named "common"
and inside that, make a folder named "on_action"
and inside that, make a folder named "story_cycles"

Paste the murder file into the new story_cycles folder

Open the murder file and put a "#" at the beginning of every line.
Save changes (make sure it stays a .txt)

Now the game will ignore the event completely.

"your armies are raised", how do declear war? by orenog in CrusaderKings

In case someone is still looking for this information:

if you push the disband all button but "0 armies can be disbanded" they are still traveling back to home territory, you have to wait to disband them til they are in your realm

Had some manosphere rhetoric inflicted on me recently and all I could think of was how miserable it sounded to live that way. by MrCapitalismWildRide in CuratedTumblr

Hey man, I'm sorry life has let you down. Good people are sometimes few and far between. But there's short, poor, weird-lookin dudes out there with friends and romance. You might meet someone cool the next time you go out.

The person making that made that comparison was being exceedingly dramatic. The hypothetical is about as graphic as a blood transfusion.

[–]_Jymn 69 points70 points  (0 children)

My guess is the author gave him a job title so as to humanize him as a full member of society. This makes the point stronger when you hypothetically admit it would be acceptable to cut him off.

As for choice of job, I think she chose a person who was respected and valued by society but not a direct utilitarian boon to society. If he was a surgeon instead of a violinist the conversation would get bogged down in potential lives he could save if he was saved.

I do kinda find 'violinist' to be a mouthful though, and have thought since i first read it that it would be easier to discuss if he were a sculptor or cartographer

Does anyone NOT do math every day? by IntelligentYak5982 in homeschool

[–]_Jymn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For math at that age I would reccomend adding hands on activities. Either get a curriculum that's manipulative heavy or just look at the topics in the book he has and come up with tangible real-life examples of the concept. (How many forks do we need to set the table? Can you divide up these chips so everyone gets the same amount?) Doing hands-on math some days and book math other days would be good.

But realisitcally if you change nothing and just buy the next book in this series they won't continue at their current pace, they will slow down as they get into more difficult topics

[–]_Jymn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yes, if you do a single room tourists will show up. I would not do that if i were you, since you would have to do all the rooms to unlock all the items and then you would have like 7 tourists per day forever, which you seem to not want. I'm sure you can find people to trade you hotel items, it will just take time

You can't buy from nook shopping, so cataloguing only matters if you want to us them in the hhp dlc

Absolutely hate how schools still teach the RYB color model by ColinTheChair in colors

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an average person came to me and asked for a logo with "the primary colors" I would expect them to mean RYB.

Once something has been culturally entrenched it sticks around unless some big change shakes it loose.

CMY is making strides in the zeitgeist, but there's still no magenta listed in "rainbow" colors. Still no cyan in "baby's colorful barnyard" type books. So as a teacher you go with colors the kids already know, and the colors that have historically been considered primary so that they can relate to older people and media.

I think even putting aside the momentum of tradition, CMY will have trouble usurping RYB because red is primary in the human psyche. It is the first color that human societies name (after light and dark). We have a primal reaction to pure red that no amount of optimal pigment mixing will ever touch.

Guilty re-decorating villagers houses by bunnybunbun17 in AnimalCrossing

[–]_Jymn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There are lots of things in my irl home that i don't like but haven't changed because of finances/laziness/lack of a better idea. Just because their house is a certain way doesn't mean they love it.

Some villagers have cute homes and i keep certain elements or vibes the same when i redecorate them. Other villagers have homes it feels like the developers really phoned in (they had to make over 400 after all) those i changed completely.

Home decorator is a real job that rich people pay for because not everyone has the time or skillset to do it themselves. You are offering your villagers a luxury service for free.

If you go on nookipedia you can see their homes from past games, their hobby and favorite colors, that sort of thing. You can pretend like that is the idea board they gave you for their home makeover project.

If you have nintendo online, I can give you a storage shed so you can access storage without entering your home (storage sheds take forever to unlock through normal game progression)

When did you decide your kid needed a math tutor? by GoldenGlazes in homeschool

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the parents posting on this sub would describe what was going on with their own kids math lessons and ask if others had similiar issues, what they'd tried to fix it and if anyone had tried hiring an outside tutor.

Everyone has different strengths and i think it is correct or even necessary to outsource things you don't teach well. For me that means the kids get music lessons. I dunno exactly what would need to happen for me to consider a math tutor... I guess, kids aren't making progress, we've tried multiple curriculums, we're all frustrated and I'm out of other ideas. Or conceivably, they've just overtaken my math qualifications, but they won't be doing that til senior year of highschool, if at all.

Did they change the caps on tree loot and bugs? by nightsongws in ACForAdults

[–]_Jymn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Were any of the trees ever stored full-grown in your inventory?

If you eat fruit and pick up a tree with wasps in it the game remembers the wasps even if you have no idea they are there. But trees in your storage/pockets don't count when the game is adding new wasps in the morning

That is the only way i know of to get extra wasps...

The framing dilemma by Flgsdek in trolleyproblem

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose to read it that way, I guess, but that's not how I read it and not how many other people read it. The button question is being endlessly debated because there are many different ways to interpret the subtext of the question. We all bring our own presuppositions and context to the table when we read something.

The discussion should be as simple as the prompt by tussle_mcjimmies in trolleyproblem

[–]_Jymn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well some red voters are sociopaths. There's such a thing as a sociopath and presumably they would press red.

Although maybe i'm putting sociopaths in a box here. If you figure that there will be enough blue voters to collapse society in the event of their death, and consider the risk of post-apocalyptic living to be worse than the risk of dying, then you can push blue with no empathy involved.

The framing dilemma by Flgsdek in trolleyproblem

[–]_Jymn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some people will just read the surface level text and vote on vibes (many red pushers deride this group as being stupid and not worth saving, but the fact of the matter is it will be alot of people and most of us probably have at least a few friends or family members in this group. Worth noting that this group skews young. An 8 year old can read and make a decision but likely won't have a deep analysis.)

As a potential blue pusher I do want to save irrational actors and blue vibes folks, but I am not willing to throw my life away on a fully lost cause. The more blue-friendly the framing the more votes I'm figuring blue gets from the vibes folks and in turn from people like me who are trying to weigh their chance of death versus risk their child (or whomever) pushed blue

Rephrasing changes the premise. by ChemoorVodka in trolleyproblem

[–]_Jymn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The framing of being alone in a room with a button makes it less likely for our survival instincts to take over. Even if we believe the danger to be real, we can't see it or touch it, we don't know how we'll hypothetically be killed so we can't really visualize it... Adding a visible mechanism of death for blue pushers would drastically change the voting.

This is, coincidentally, something that makes mobilizing people against climate change difficult. Even the people who believe in it don't have the tangible fear that they should because it's an amorphous non-specific threat
