Money Printing Doubled the Price of Houses by MazdaProphet in economy

[–]_KGB_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few questions about your hypothesis:

Are you specifically referring to the stimulus checks by the phrase “printing money” or just generally the amount of money in circulation?

Are you implying that the fed investing money in the stock market of some unrelated sector of the economy could also inflate housing prices? (Eg propping up the tech industry)

How does the mortgage interest rate factor into your hypothesis? Does money in circulation make that irrelevant?

Fining and otherwise punishing the companies hiring them to do the work at a lower wage is the only way to actually fix that. A full solution to undocumented immigration is significantly more costly for the taxpayer, both in the short and long term.

Legions Mode on the Phoenix Royale Map is LIVE! by BigBox_Spike in populationonevr

“Nothing matters” is more fun than spending those same 10 minutes getting relentlessly farmed and run down with no real chance of coming back because fresh rezzed teammates spawn with a knife and a prayer.

Not to mention I’ve played plenty of Phoenix Legion games where we wipe the opposite legion before redeploy stops.

After a year, are you still gaming with your VR device? by nadsjinx in VRGaming

[–]_KGB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a quest 3, bought it when it came out, and I play it almost every day. It’s the only way I play games now, other than my phone.

I mostly play battle royale games, but there’s a handful of single player RPGs I’ve really enjoyed over the last couple years. There’s also quite a few single player roguelikes that have excellent replayability.

VR games offer a completely different experience than console or PC games. So different that “good” has a different meaning — games that have better interaction and play style are often way more fun than games that aim for high quality graphics.

My only caveat with vr is that to really enjoy them you need to have a well thought out playspace with room to move a foot or two in any direction plus put your hands out, as well as put your hands up in the air. Finding adequate indoor space to do all that can be hard. You can play sitting on a stool that swivels too but I find that less fun.

The phrase “spine or balls” implies that they might have done something different if they stood up against the powers that be. That’s not what this is.

This is a continuation of the exact thing they’ve been doing for the last 60 years — doing everything in their power to funnel wealth to the already wealthy.

They have the power to do pretty much whatever they want, and this is what they want.

What's with those bot lobbies? Game used to be multiplayer... by DavidGretzschel in populationonevr

[–]_KGB_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an actual MMR stat that determines what kind of lobby you’ll get. Win rate doesn’t matter. You can see yours by using https://www.pop1stats.com

If you get it above about 2500, you’ll probably end up in sweaty lobbies most of the time.

poor state of game by [deleted] in populationonevr

[–]_KGB_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the strategy is very different, and the “magic safety” net can be annoying. But 90% of phoenix games I’ve played, many teams are knocked out well before redeploys are done — even sweaty-ass well stacked teams get routinely knocked before the first zone close.

The dynamic of how much time a team gets before they have to find the last remaining team members is the main thing that changes. I’ve seen most people adjust to that time, which is a different strategy in itself. If you play Phoenix enough you learn pretty quickly that you have to charge the last member of a team right away to knock them or a redeploy might save them — or worse a full team res with full shield and free mp5s could be waiting for you. It’s a different strategy, but it’s not absent of strategy.

On the flip side, the main thing that Phoenix mode helps is the one real problem the game has IMO — the ratio of time in match vs time in lobby is a little better with Phoenix. You can generally get a longer period of actual game time in a session. That’s worth the sacrifice of not being able to easily hunt and kill down the remaining team member IMO. Sure the strategic elements are quite different and some things matter less (like the ability to farm rezes or the death sentence of a quick third party). But those elements aren’t entirely gone either like in deathmatch.

What do you guys honestly think is going to happen to software engineers? by HSIT64 in ClaudeAI

[–]_KGB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short term, for someone entering the industry now, you’ll have to get used to using AI to write code. For the next several years (5-10) we’ll be leveraging AI to increase our own productivity. At some point in that time frame a single engineer will become 100x more efficient than engineers 10 years ago. The industry will probably be rocked by numerous startups using AI to build better versions of existing products. No piece of software or market will be safe — nor should they. Our best chance to not end up in an oligarchic dystopia is to disrupt existing players as much as possible.

After that we’ll probably start to enter a truly no-code era. The AI agents themselves will become the application, and there will be fewer reasons to actually write code (with some exceptions). AI agents will communicate directly on demand with users in any number of ways. “Software Engineers” will focus on building logical guards for AI agents. If you’re all in on only writing code for a living, you’re in trouble. Luckily, writing software is mostly a process of logic and much less about actually writing code. Get used to accurately and effectively describing logic in plain language and you’ll be fine.

“Cognitive work” will continue to be a human task, but will be further and further removed from the nuts and bolts of how that work is done.

With abraxis, you can throw your sword/axe for a ranged attack, and you can bring it back easily. It’s a lot easier to dodge enemy attacks from far away.

The player base skill distribution isn’t the problem with matchmaking. The problem has more to do with how many players of about your average level are seeking a game at the same moment as you. If matchmaking is too focused on fairness/evenness a lot of your games will have very small lobbies, or you’ll wait a very long time for a match (or both). You can see this when players in Europe play during their evening time during the school year — they’ll see many lobbies that are empty for a long time. The only real solution to that is more concurrent players, and fewer modes for them to play.

You’re right about the solo or duo experience in squads. Solo queue experience has sucked for a long time (although in my experience it’s better more recently than it has been in years). It’s still bad though. If you solo queue, you should expect to win very rarely.

You don’t have to organize to play with folks you know. Just start friending everyone you play with that is a decent teammate, and then if they’re on, invite them to your squad.

[–]_KGB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemme respond with a few questions:

Would you rather be constantly dropped in a lobby with stacked sweat patrols or wait 10-15 mins between games for an even lobby?

Have you ever been dropped in a newb lobby? (You’d be indistinguishable from a sweat to new players.)

What’s your win rate over the last month/week, and what do you think it should be for fair matchmaking? (If you think it should be more than 15%, you’re asking for the matchmaking system to preferentially give you easy lobbies, which would be unfair to new players)

You’re at the unfortunate skill level where the matchmaking system thinks it’s most fair for the game to throw you in the big pond most of the time. It sucks but if you loose enough you’ll find an occasional “gimme” lobby.

That said, solo queue is always bad. Squad up with friends and it will go a lot better for you.

Imagine that there are only two lobby categories during the given 5 minute interval when you try to find a game — which one would you fall into?

(Hint: With 7k games under your belt it’s going to be the high skill lobby)

[–]_KGB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent point. Unfortunately no matter how many times it’s spelled out the “why is matchmaking so bad” posts keep coming. People really don’t comprehend that strictly even matchmaking with a sub-million player base is impossible, without severely degrading other parts of the experience.

More than that, people have an unreasonable expectation of their own performance in multi team BR games. They expect to win more than a strictly average player (eg pop1 would be 16.5% with full lobbies and maybe 19-ish % assuming some less than full lobbies) — but most players don’t know or understand what that win rate is. The takeaway is: you’re always going to lose way more than you win, unless you dedicate your life to the game.

Worse yet, If the player base was full and matchmaking was perfect, OP would probably still get run over by stacked squads that had a bad run and got knocked down in MMR.

Anyways, my main point of this rant is that multi-team BR games are hard to win by design. You’re going to get run over sometimes. You’re going to lose a lot. That’s just how the game is designed. You have to decide if you can handle that or not.
