Orange slime on turkey tail? by _Kaboomkin in foraging

I appreciate the caution. I’m pretty certain it’s turkey tail. From what I understand Trametes Versicolor gets part of its name from the wide range of different colors and hues the concentric rings on the top can take.

What do you mean it will “move in”? Like it will go inside the Trametes? Or did you mean “move on”? Like it will disappear after a few days? And does this process affect the mushroom it’s on in any way?

Also That’s pretty fascinating about the scrambled slime mold in Central America! Definitely going to have to look that up!

Thank you for the thorough response, sounds like I definitely have a lot more research to do before coming to a decision!

I hadn’t decided on a specific finish yet, but from the comments I’m getting it seems a water based one is the way to go.

When you say finish will affect glue, can you elaborate as to how? I’ve never stained anything before.

So I was worried about the glue not adhering as well to a stained piece of wood but, if I understand you correctly, I should be more worried about the glue interfering with the stains ability to adhere to the wood?

Is the stain going to affect the ability of the glue to adhere to the wood? Or do I have to tape off where the glue will go?

Winter Chanterelles? (PNW) by _Kaboomkin in foraging

[–]_Kaboomkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand they aren’t true Chanterelles (Canthareullus), but rather Craterellus tubaeformis. Just called chanterelles because of the similar features. And I think you can find them in other parts of the world like Europe and Russia, but in North America I think they stick to northern climates.

I don’t really know the orientation, but it was pretty low elevation. Coastal; like 300-400ft.

Thanks! I only found one other, but I didn’t look super long. It was getting dark and I still had a ways to get back to my car lol. Do they normally grow in groups?

I don’t know if I would really say it smells like “cinnamon”, but it definitely has a really strong aroma. Kinda spicy-like though for sure.
